What’s up with Izzy calling Hammond, “Rich” does she not consider him a father?

Its called spoilt little brat syndrome. You can tell by the way she talks, all bossy and rude, she doesnt appreciate where she's come from. Men work, he worked a lot, its life, get over it. Richard being a rollover, just takes it and never pulls her up on it. Most 'posh' kids have strong fathers who tell them bluntly when they are being little sh*ts.

I noticed that. I wonder if they thought it would be odd for the viewer for her to constantly be saying Dad. Or maybe that’s just the relationship they have.

She did say in an interview like, he wasn’t there much. Which is understandable. I don’t wanna judge. Or have a go at her for doing that. But I feel bad for Hammond. He made a good life for her 🤷♂️
Felice_rdt@reddit
I'd say he paid for a good life. Ask any grown kid of otherwise absentee well-to-do parents whether that counts for shit in their hearts.
I don't know if this has anything to do with what she calls him or if it reflects what she feels about him, but you can't point at a nice house and stuff and assume that's what made a good parent. There's a reason why most kids are closer to a stay-at-home parent than to the one who worked.

I don't want to talk down her experience of it, but I kinda have the sense that some might say that just because he wasn't always there like the mother often is. Some weeks he'd have off time, some weeks he'd be home late, some weeks might even seem normal, and others he'd been gone for a week or more.
Aside that, if she is like him, at her age, she likely is doing it intentionally to stake her own independence. Like consider for a moment that Clarkson has three kids and only one has been on camera (as far as I know), and thats more than likely to avoid being labeled as son/daughter of JC... and little else.

Maybe he's catching up now? Making up for lost time? I dunno, she seems to love him regardless.
ShallowWaterH20@reddit (OP)
Oh yeah I have no doubt about it. It just stands out to well, everyone else. They maybe should have edited around it.
Bunionzz@reddit
I don't think he feels guilty or anything, it feels like he really wanted to do this all along, and im glad he now has the time to hang with her. (Im a girl dad)
Doc891@reddit
wealth alone doesnt make for a good life. We dont know what her home life was like and shouldnt put it on her to capitulate because he provided money. I like Hammond, and parenting is hard regardless but i dont think even that is enough to make a judgement call as to why her calling him rich is in bad form.
Ketchup1211@reddit
I worked with my Dad for a couple years. I always called him by his name at work. Could be her just trying to be professional in that setting.
pn_dubya@reddit
Same. Weirdly never went back to “Dad”.
ShallowWaterH20@reddit (OP)
This makes more sense to me.

Nice person. Should be doing food reviews.

In some families kids refer to their parents by their name, and its totally normal if you grow up like that. No need to analyse their relationship based on that and it probably means nothing.
ShallowWaterH20@reddit (OP)
I’ve never met or known anyone that’s ever done this unless there’s some past trauma or it’s literally their step dad.
It’s not normal.
Mathfanforpresident@reddit
You got downvoted because the vast majority of reddit are not normal. Not by actual, normal, human beings. Because you're right. Without some form of trauma or another conscious motive, like the one Lizzie actually gives, It's not normal to call your parents by their first name.
I've never in my entire life heard of anyone calling their biological parent by their first name. The only time I've heard of this happening is whenever they have a rocky relationship with the parent in question.
ashevillain_@reddit
It’s pretty normal, one of my best friends has good relationship with his parents and both he and his sister call them by name
ShallowWaterH20@reddit (OP)
Okay, well it must be a country or cultural thing. I have a few mates who do the things along the same lines, but they don’t call them by their first names.
Macdaboss@reddit
dumbass

I'm sure on one podcast I've seen her as a guest on she referred to her mum as Mindy.

It seems to come natural for her to say “Rich”, she does say “daddy” when she’s in more vulnerable states, and never says “Richard” or “Hammond” which is what every colleague refers to him as. Our kids will say different versions of mom based on what they want. Like “mom” just casually, “mommy” when they want something and “mother” when they are try to convince her to change her mind. So mostly because she calls him “Rich” I’d lean more to this is part of her normal conversation with her father not just her calling him “Rich” because of filming.
Gizm082@reddit
This feels like overanalyzing something on the air and not knowing if it is scripted that way or she just was being a pro at her job.
Taeles@reddit
I work at andrews afb with my dad. At work he is Art if it’s official and work related. Just us in my office? Dad.
ballsosteele@reddit
What's weird is his name is actually Hammondyuidiot
SittingEames@reddit
It's filmed for an audience. This isn't a slice of life. On GT and TG they mostly called him Hammond, but Izzy can't call him that since it's her name too. In early DriveTribe stuff she'd call him my Dad when talking to Mike.
This feels like a conscious choice probably specifically to make the audience think of her as a separate presenter and not just as Hammond's daughter.
Ballamookieofficial@reddit
She refers to him as rich when talking about him to other people on camera. I'd assume he's dad off air. Also
I think she's trying to avoid the nepotism bs.
