Is there an increase I scam texts?

Basically what the title says, I can't tell if my number's been put in some database and that's why I keep getting all these texts or if it's a general trend. Would love to know!

I hardly ever get them, just a few a year. Most recent scam call made me laugh though as it was an AI voice recorded message telling me that I needed to send 'important documents' to the 'immigration bureau' straight away. Aye, because the Home Office, going by the name immigration bureau, leave you a generic recorded message from a mobile number on a Sunday afternoon to request documents, rather than sending a letter. Anyone that falls for that sort of thing is beyond help, or losing their marbles.

My number was seemingly taken off most scam lists. Then I had to answer every phone call because I'm waiting for an operation and didn't know where or when the call would come. So I guess I'm back on the lists now

I get a lot ‘mom, I’ve lost my phone, this is my friend’s, please text me back…’, which I find funny, because I’m Turing’s ‘mum’, and he’s normally asleep next to me, and being a cat, he doesn’t have opposable thumbs, so how can he text

I keep thinking the same but with calls. Over the last year it’s gotten crazy and I seem to get nuisance calls daily now. I keep thinking of changing my number and whether it’s worth all the effort or whether there’s just a database of all the possible numbers and it will all be in vain.

Has RCS been enabled? It seems to have more spam issues than regular SMS, it got disabled entirely in India for a while it was so bad there. Every spam I get now (unless it's a DWP/gov one) it's RCS, and sometimes a group chat.

It’s very random. I got a flurry of two per day for a week last month. Now? Radio silence…

Pretty sure they blast numbers at random. i have noticed a trend of being added along with several other random numbers to a group, then the person who created it leaves. May be a way to get round filters or something, as almost all spam or scam texts get flagged now by the phone and removed.
