Raskols (street gangsters from Papua New Guinea) and their firearms: almost entirely handmade and using mostly WWII-era ammo.

Why didn't lawmakers ban gangsters from making guns? Are they stupid? /s
MountainTitan@reddit
So? Criminals would still make illegal guns. It'd make it harder for civilians.
DukeOfBattleRifles@reddit
Damn even specifying with /s wasn't enough. Dude its sarcasm.
MountainTitan@reddit
What does it even mean?
lycantrophee@reddit
They're scum, but some of those photos and the way they're taken look cool.
shoelesshistorian@reddit
Several of these shots reuse the same ones.

These guns look like someone should reinvent the club.
Jegermuscles@reddit
The guns are almost as ugly as they are.

These guys are rough as guts. My dad got held up by one of these guys with a home made shotgun. And was also shot at too at one point.
The highlands of New Guinea are so out of control not even the police go there.
My Dads friend couldn’t deliver the payroll to his employees because of them. Ended up buying a surplus armoured car and drove though the bullets lol.
I’ve seen video of Raskols and other tribes with Arisakas, SLRs (FAL) and even a few M-16s from Australia (excluding Arisakas). They’re not all home made.
Can’t imagine there’s any ammo left for the Arisakas, but pretty effective for intimidation

Sure, but the pictures are mostly homemad weapons. A lot of the guns don't actually work, and are more of a status symbol.

I'm not 100% sure, but looking at that very first picture it doesn't look like the hammer would strike where the primer would be considering the layout of the barrel. It also may not have a trigger but it's too dark to tell
moose8021@reddit
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like these firearms are more for intimidation than for actually shooting, since 80yr old ammo in handmade weapons doesn't sound very effective. Not saying it doesn't happen or anything like that
TheAleFly@reddit
With guns like that, I would have expected to see more missing fingers.
mihoyyminoyy@reddit
It's like the pipe weapons from Fallout, but even sketchier. I'd like to see a video of these weapons in action.

Raskols, despite the crude nature of their firearms and their almost comical name, are violent, drug-addled psychopaths. Some gangs use murder or rape as initiation rites. They make Port Moresby a living hell, and there's an ethnic dimension to their violence, with gangs often tied to specific tribes. Gang warfare frequently escalates into full-blown race riots
