My first PC build and I’m having buyer’s remorse
Posted by Naive-Seaweed3888@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 16 comments
I’m currently having some doubts about the Zotac 5090 OC I just bought a couple days ago that cost nearly 3k USD. I don’t know whether I should return it and use that money to build a complete pc or use that GPU and build a pc with it. P/s: I saved up quite a bit of money over the years and I decided to build my first pc.

I had a 4090 x 7800x3d
Sold my 4090 last week and got a 5080 instead . For my use case ( games I play ) , I don’t feel a difference and I am happy . Runs whatever I want at a high fps ( LG 45 oled 3440x1440), paired with a s90c 55inch 4k (story games ) .
I am more than happy with my setup still
You can buy a 5080 prebuilt for the same price as your 5090 (3k) .
Get the 5080 bro if you’re only gaming like me

imma be honest if you needed to go out of your way to save money to buy a pc you shouldnt have bought a 5090 lol.

JFC what do you do for a living that you make the value of a 5090 in less than a week? Fuck some people are so much more fortunate than others.

im retired lol. the minimum interest from my savings + passive income comes out to about 6k per week. you should check out r/Fire and r/Bogleheads if you want to setup your finances properly for your future retirement

Ah okay that makes sense! Yeah I’ve recently visited a fiduciary friend that’s helped set me up. I’m 37 now, got a pretty solid amount of savings, but about to start getting extremely aggressive. I want to have a very large sum of money generating a substantial amount of interest. That’s a lot though. $6000 per week is wild lol. I just googled it and your investments would need to be worth $7.8 million… lol.
Annual Income Goal: You want to generate $6,000 per week, which equates to $312,000 annually ($6,000/week * 52 weeks/year). Portfolio Calculation: To achieve this $312,000 annual income, you’d need a portfolio of approximately $7.8 million ($312,000 / 0.04 = $7,800,000).
That’s wild.

For most people 5090 is overkill especially if your not planning to play at 4k.
Another thing is these beefy gpu's have an increase chance of experiencing melting connectors.

Never buy cutting edge tech. Give it at least a year for rich schmucks to iron out all the bugs.

What monitor do you have?
mrestiaux@reddit
Bro return it. Fuck were you thinking buying a 5090 for your first rig? You can literally build a high end rig for the price of a 5090.
MrRedditEnjoyer@reddit
Return it.
younglordtroy@reddit
WIth that amount, you can build a whole PC that can easily crush anything at 1440p plus a good monitor too. Spending all that time saving for an overpriced GPU you can't even use right now doesn't seem like a good investment imo
clarence_worley90@reddit
a 5090 for your first PC is a terrible idea unless you're absolutely sure you want to game at 4k
you can build a high end PC that can run every game at 1440p for $1500
