Assholes be designing cool cars then not making it...
jlo-59@reddit
It looks like a pimped out Chrysler K car from the early eighties.
Funkgun@reddit
Totally. I was going to say, has a New Yorker / Lebaron vibe
Flash24rus@reddit
It's a licensed copy of MMC Debonair
Flash24rus@reddit
It's 2nd gen Mitsubishi Debonair from 1989, built by hyundai.
theyellowdart89@reddit
Canada needs this
its_all_4_lulz@reddit
Fuck yeah. I’ve said before they should just EV a bunch of older cars and resell them. I bet some would take off.
mikebrown33@reddit
Looks like a Chrysler
MaroonIsBestColor@reddit
Kinda miss boxy 80s cars
PowThwappZlonk@reddit
They're still around
rasvial@reddit
Nobody misses the actual ownership experience- they miss the styling.
Objectively it’s a stinky, slow, and unreliable experience- a modern car with the classic style is what people want.
anti_zero@reddit
They miss the idea of them.
rasvial@reddit
They won’t make it :( but I’d buy it
1RedOne@reddit
Hyundai is really cooking between this and the n74
Unable_Option_1237@reddit
Love this thing. The only thing I don't like about it is all the touchscreen junk. It would have been cooler with a bunch of sliders and knobs like an old console stereo. Like, forty sliders and six knobs
WorriedMarch4398@reddit
Would have been a great fit with some suicide doors too.
swizznastic@reddit
touchscreens are a bad idea in cars anyway, you need physical feedback in order to control things while paying attention to the road
AutonomousOrganism@reddit
I agree. The dashboard and center console don't really fit the aesthetics.
It needs recessed displays which are not visible when off, some aircraft inspired buttons/dials/switches and maybe a heads up display.
anotherkeebler@reddit
Yeah but since it’s a full display you can go absolutely nuts with a pixelated 4-bit graphics gauge cluster
Erol_Alacsid@reddit
I love this car. . . I want this car. . . I need this car
rockstar_not@reddit
Coolest designs? Oh my word - it's a sad K-Car Chrysler New Yorker from 1987!!!
aquatone61@reddit
They could sell this exactly as is and it would be a great thing. The headlights and taillights may have to be tweaked but I’d bet this would sell.
Dont_Call_Me_Steve@reddit
Release tomorrow and I’ll buy yesterday.
jussuumguy@reddit
I really love this style and I hope they bring it back.
Phasnyc@reddit
Always liked this design. Looks exactly like a fifth generation Mitsubishi Galant Sigma.
BlankBB@reddit
I had one of these, with the blue velour seats, manual transmission and V6 - one of my favorite cars until the motor died after 333,000 miles
renchjeep@reddit
Looks like a cross between like a 1983 Toyota Camry and an 87-91 Sterling 825.
Horror-Raisin-877@reddit
Hmm, on the outside, and even much of the inside, it’s like a 1980’s Chrysler. And then all of a sudden there’s that long LED screen / panel. Jarring contrast of styles there. Almost like time ran out on the project and they had to get something in there quick.
jonrpatrick@reddit
I don't get the excitement. While I love retro designs, this looks like an 80's Toyota Crown, a Chrysler New Yorker, and an Eagle Premier had a polyamorous love child.
sultan_of_gin@reddit
Those sci-fi elements like the lights make it really neat
JCDU@reddit
Hyundai are fucking killing it right now. That N74 concept and now this? Yes please.
RatInaMaze@reddit
I’ve been saying they need to bring back remade vintage cars for ages. I want 101 Dalmatians cars.
EX0PIL0T@reddit
Restomod builds aren’t honestly the most difficult project. Pretty cheap too as long as you take your time and do things right
JCDU@reddit
And donor Teslas for EV swaps are getting reaaaaal cheap now for some reason...
galoluscus@reddit
Looks like a K-car copy.
JARDIS@reddit
I really fuck with this. More car companies should do classic reruns or refreshed runs like this EV. We really want classic cars re-released, but what we always get is another Skyrim re-release.
whoopsiedoodle77@reddit
fuuuuuuck I wish they had the guts to actually make this
3amGreenCoffee@reddit
It's sort of neat in an ironic way, but the period in car design that car is intended to evoke was called the Malaise Era for a reason.
smokeydonkey@reddit
That is such a villainous looking car, I love it so much.
chambee@reddit
Men In Black vibe.
SovietTriumph@reddit
can this really be considered as 'EV car design' when its essentially just a restomodded converted mitsubishi
recumbent_mike@reddit
It could be, because I would literally be willing to murder one auto industry executive a month until this came to market.
EX0PIL0T@reddit
I’m pretty sure wishing violence on the mentally handicapped is frowned upon
SovietTriumph@reddit
i don't think they can without cooperating with mitsubishi
ExtensionLive2502@reddit
my partner doesn’t really care about cars or car design & this concept really got him. he wistfully brings it up like every other month & has since he first saw it. I feel bad he’ll never get the only car he actually likes ᴖ̈
Particular_Dot_2063@reddit
I'm curious... What about this does he like? Is it the visual styling, the fact that it's an EV or both at the same time? Because if its just styling, then this is what alot of 80s sedans looked like and it would be easy to buy one today and repair it for less than $10k
ExtensionLive2502@reddit
both the styling and it being an EV - and especially the front and rear lights!
MoparMonkey1@reddit (OP)
it’s a shame, I hope Hyundai really does decide to put this in production. I personally do not like many EVs, but this I would 100% drive
StonewallSoyah@reddit
I still don't understand why this vehicle isn't in production yet
Pattern_Is_Movement@reddit
From this to the Renault 5 Turbo EV, two sides of the same coin. Stupidly good looking.
meltyourtv@reddit
If this cost $100k and a left nut then my biggest worry is where I’d find the $100k
rusty_handlebars@reddit
Siiiiiick!!!!
GrafZeppelin127@reddit
I don’t care how often this thing is reposted, I will never not upvote it. This thing is gorgeous and more people need to see that magnificent interior.
High_Speed_Chase@reddit
Looks like the car used in the movie Equilibrium.
Cunt_Eastwood_10@reddit
I don’t want to see these images shared again until they announce it’s going into production.
topcat5@reddit
Looks exactly like a Chrysler LeBaron.
recumbent_mike@reddit
Not that the LeBaron was awful, but this thing is like a thousand times cooler.
Dadbert97@reddit
Sorry, but it looks like the offspring of a Chrysler K-car and a Renault Alliance.
