Hey Americans, what US podcasts are you into these days?
Posted by stevie855@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 168 comments
I’ve always wondered which podcasts are actually popular in the US. For me, I love If Books Could Kill, Let’s Read, The Shawn Ryan Show, and Jocko Podcast.
I also sometimes listen to Behind the Bastards and Anti-Hero.
What are y’all’s favorites?
Dry-Sky1614@reddit
* What A Time To Be Alive--three Brooklyn comedians count down 5 weird/topical news stories each week and riff on them. A lot funnier than it sounds.
* Jordan Jesse Go!--an NPR host and a comedian/writer shoot the shit about various topics with a guest each week. Really has no real format or plan and gets really absurd.
* Serious Trouble--a criminal defense attorney/former federal prosecutor and a political journalist do in-depth analysis of prominent legal issues in American headlines. Between the two of them they're great at breaking down what can sometimes be complex stuff for laypeople.
Those are my three "listen every week" pods. Will say that none of them are very popular at all, lol.

Southern sounds (this is no talking, just nature sounds)
Food related: history of American food, gravy, Louisiana eats
Nostalgic/history: History of the 90s, everything 80s podcast
Miscellaneous: the exorcist files, The broadside, 99% invisible, twenty thousand hertz, articles of interest, reveal
Nature related: outside in, buzzkill, sea change, the southern naturalist
Hunting: mossyoak game keepers, Louisiana bowhunter, hunting land man (these 2 are hyper local to me, like i see them at the grocery store local, so prob not super popular elsewhere), bear grease, wild turkey science, deer university
True crime: new Orleans unsolved
Fappy_as_a_Clam@reddit
Honestly, I still like JRE. Judge me all you want.
Sometimes I just want to listen to a dumbass meathead stoner talk bizarre theories about dumb shit. Pyramids? UFOs? Younger-Dryas impact? I'm fucking tuned in lol. And he gets great guests, I was just in another thread about it....if he has an artist or comedian or whoever I like on there, im listening. For all 3 hours. I don't care if he had an antivaxxer or Trump or Elon on the week before. Really, id probably listen to them too just because I want to see what all the fuss is about.
Other than him Old Gods of Appalachia is good, that Fall of Civilizations one is good, and I love Theo Vonn too. But all those are less controversial.

Dungeons and Daddies- TTRPG (DnD and Call of Cthulu) podcast thats pretty mechanics light and roleplay heavy.
Creepcast- 2 youtubers (MeatCanyon and Wendigoon) that read and riff on horror stories
Rude Tales of Magic, and Oh These Those Stars of Space - they're produced by the same people. RToM is DnD, and the original. OTTSS is sort of a side series using a very simple system. it's kind of based on the Star Trek TV series in function.
Those are the main ones im listening to.

I’m a big comedy fan so I mostly listen to comedy podcasts. My favorite has to be the Are Your Garbage podcast with Kevin Ryan and H. Foley.
In a world of comedy filled with nonstop political content, the guys on AYG offer a breath of fresh air. It’s a simple concept. They talk about the mundane things in life and answer fans questions asking if they’re garbage, half the time with other comedian guests.
Examples would be things like “Is it garbage to say hamburger meat instead of ground beef?” or “Is it garbage to shave your head with a Gillette razor?”

Small Town Murder. It’s true crime stories in small towns told by comedians. I love true crime stories, but they can be a real downer. These guys tell the story, but they’re comedians, so it’s funny how they tell it, but they never denigrate or insult the victims or their families. It’s like getting my dark crime fix while laughing out loud.
usababykiller@reddit
Swindled. It’s a true crime podcast that focuses on white collar crime and corporate greed cases. The show is excellent. I don’t think there is a single episode that isn’t good. Most of the episodes will make you mad because the crimes in many cases lead to deaths and no one is ever punished. Or if they are it’s a slap on the wrist because they are wealthy crooks.

Yacht or Nyacht. It’s silly but the camaraderie and the shared love of a subgenre of music makes it superb. Also, they take their debates over whether a song is or isn’t yacht rock SO seriously, and it’s a great form of escapism to hear people get passionate about something so unimportant.
