The issue is expecting the government to educate us properly. Their goals are not the same as ours. The folks in charge want divided, docile, and easily manipulated groups. They are doing well.
It’s bee happening longer than that. We knew that Teddy Roosevelt was blocking news from reaching the population. There has always been censorship of information
I know someone who's a fervent Trump supporter who is trying to bring in someone on a green card.
They really do think that their partner will be excluded from the purges.
Melania (and Musk, for that matter) were legitimately illegal immigrants. Melania lied and said she was here on a tourist visa, when in reality she was working as a model. And Musk overstayed his student visa.
I'm not sure to be honest. All I know is that there are rules for the rich, and then rules for everyone else and that's be design. It's my crazy hope that people would wake up to that one day, but here we are.
Right. To me, that is the biggest issue with the whole Signal Gate BS. If a regular soldier or intelligence officer did the same thing, they would be fired immediately and most likely prosecuted and sent to Leavenworth.
But if Trump's friends do it? It's like it never happened. And on top of that they're also violating the Presidential Records Act. But they literally don't give a single fuck, because why should they?
Do you not understand that the Trump regime is deporting people who are here legally, whether on student visas, green card holders, or those with legal asylum/refugee status? Her partner has a tell chance of ending up as a slave laborer in a brutal El Salvadorian prison - especially if he has ANY tattoos. That has happened to people with tattoos of Jesus, or the autism awareness ribbon.
They detained and deported a white Canadian woman working in California whose visa they took issue with. She’s been very vocal about how terrible it was and how she’s lucky to have gotten out in 2 weeks since she’s well resourced and connected compared to most people getting deported.
One stupid person shouldn't affect the lives of hundreds of millions. But on the bright side, at least she (and people like her) is less likely to effectively procreate.
You go outside of the 10 major cities in the US, and the country is basically Bangladesh wearing a gucci belt (generally speaking). So you shouldn't be surprised.
Isn't pneumonia a symptom of something else? It just means fluid and inflammation in the lungs, from something like a virus, bacteria, or fungus. You can develop pneumonia from measles, either from the virus itself or a secondary bacterial infection.
Maybe? They interviewed on [Children's Health Defense] according to the article. I didn't link to it because I don't need to give an RFK organization any clicks. I think they're probably in shock, but my first reaction would not be, "I'd make the same decision again. It wasn't that bad," if my kid died of an eradicated disease that I refused to protect them from.
And that's not all she said, iirc, she said her child's measles wasn't that bad ... It's like mental illness at this point. These maga morons are cult brainwashed. It's beyond salvation at this point.
It's not an "excuse". It's how tariffs are designed to work...by boosting domestic business compared to foreign. If prices don't go up, the tariffs literally didn't work. It's a tax.
On us it’s a tax on us consumers why not just tax wealthy why do we need to foot the bill for this mfs tariff idea that might work and might alienate us from every ally
Oh I know. Tariffs are terrible policy on any level. Bad at generating revenue, bad for the economy, just altogether bad. But if you look at the purpose of tariffs it's literally to raise prices. By putting tariffs on foreign goods, it raises the prices of foreign goods directly, so domestic producers can raise their own prices in turn. Domestic producers raising their prices isn't a side effect. It's the whole point.
Not exactly. The idea of tariffs is that you're raising prices on imported goods so that domestic goods are the less expensive option, thus encouraging companies to increase domestic manufacturing due to the increased demand. The problem is twofold:
1. You can only put tariffs on goods that are able to be produced domestically. If you put a tariff on goods that literally cannot be produced domestically, such as if a foreign company controls the supply of a necessary component, it just raises the price of that good without domestic production increasing (because it can't), thereby causing a shortage.
2. For a similar reason, the infrastructure necessary to manufacture the goods domestically must exist when the tariffs take effect. If tariffs take effect but none of the infrastructure necessary for manufacturing the goods has been built, or if some has been built but not enough, the tariffs won't work properly and instead will just cause a shortage because domestic production can't fill the gap left from the imported goods.
Now, here's my two cents. Some of the tariffs Trump had proposed are, on paper, a good idea. Specifically those on goods manufactured in China. Basically, if Trump had stuck to that and not tariffs on imports from our allies, and (especially important) incorporated a (much) longer delay before the tariffs take effect, like (just throwing out a number) 1 or 2 years, that would have avoided angering our allies and allowed American companies to have time to develop the infrastructure necessary to move their manufacturing operations here, so that when the tariffs take effect they could immediately switch to domestic manufacturing without missing a beat. To have even greater likelihood of success, the tariffs could even have been paired with tax credits and other financial incentives for building new domestic manufacturing infrastructure, to further encourage American companies to build the necessary domestic manufacturing infrastructure.
Of course, because Trump and co. are Trump and co., they didn't think that far ahead, so here we are.
This is mostly correct, but there's no increased demand without increased prices, unless you reject the principle of supply and demand. So tariffs will increase prices and if they don't that means they haven't worked because they haven't increased demand for domestic goods.
You are sort of right about the rest as well, if you want domestic production to increase immediately, then you need some pre-existing domestic excess production capacity. But that's a fantasy world, because companies don't maintain excess production capacity, so in all cases, the domestic production capacity will need time to ramp up. Speaking as somebody whose career is ramping up factories, that takes years, decades, and in some cases generations to happen. And even that increased domestic production will never result in prices dropping to what they were before because all of their inputs that had comparative foreign advantage (steel, crops, minerals, whatever) ALSO have tariffs on them so their efficiency will always be fundamentally worse than it was under free trade.
You have a point that a minimally -invasive tariff policy, if there is such a thing, would only put tariffs on goods that already have a good domestic supply chain. But that would have the effect of only subsidizing existing industries where US is strong, and not subsidizing industries where US is weak. That's actually self defeating because boosting US industry requires, if anything, more development where US is weak. On the contrary you want tariffs to cause the greatest price increases in sectors where there's weak domestic capacity, in the HOPES that the high prices will stimulate development of domestic capacity. That might work but it might never happen, either because people substitute other goods and go without, the high price causes demand to drop so much nobody invests in increasing production (prices just rise to a new higher equilibrium and that's that), or firms don't invest in increasing production because Trump will be gone in 4 years and it will take them 5 years and 20 million dollars to build a new factory and if the tariffs go away they will go bankrupt with a factory they don't need so they just sit in the 20 million as a cash reserve in the case of the chaotic economy. Investment requires steady, stable market conditions where firms can make long-term plans and that's NOT what firms are facing right now. Literally China currently appears like a better investment than the US by far.
So you see once again, from every angle if the tariffs don't cause pain, they aren't working, and they "work" to the extent that they do cause pain. Attempting to craft a tariff policy that has minimal damage results in a tariff policy that doesn't do much, and you might as well get rid of it.
Ya, it’s definitely going to be hard on us the consumer. I wish there was away companies couldn’t pass the cost of the tariffs on the consumer. We the people alway get the short end of the stick. We need some strategies to combat this. I’m not sure stockpiling goods is the way to go.
Yeah half the problem is these companies will jack up prices before the tariffs even affect them, specifically on inventory they already have. And then once prices for them come back down we won't see much discount. We all got to witness this recently during covid.
It's not an excuse, it's basic economics. Demand stays the same and supply is dereasing. Part of the supply is more expensive because of tariffs, this causes the rest of the supply to also become more expensive.
Rice. It's easy to store and is still cheap. Dried beans ( lentils are high protein and cook quickly) Canned meats, vegetables, fruits. If you can afford it, freeze dried foods. Instant coffee. Sugar. Salt. Flour. Baking soda.
of course, if they pull this stunt for too long, they're re-opening the door for mom & pop stores, which large retailers have basically undercut for decades
large retailers can say whatever they want, but if the price is right, people will start frequenting small businesses more
I don't need "an opportunity." My family will weather all of this just fine. The idea that any individual can just start a company to combat these tariffs is absolutely hilarious though.
Wake up to what? The only people profiting on this will be the ultra-wealthy. The average person isn't starting a competitor to Crest or "buying the dip." Most people don't keep cash on hand to take advantage of market crashes.
Think about tariffs on aluminum. That's expensive so glass bottles for beer, now the glass being produced and bought for $X at Y demands is going to see a huge jump in demand which will raise the price of glass even if there are no tariffs associated with glass.
So a bunch of people with no knowledge of supply chain or macro economics are going to say glass companies are gouging people on price when it's directly (1 step removed) tied to tariffs.
There are still massive ripples 2 or 3 steps removed. And that's just one commodity.
Add to it the general mob mentality we see from this post (Buy it all even if you don't need it) And you get the soap shortage in Venezuela. E.g. the county had more than 10x the needed soup for everyone in the country on shelves and in warehouses. Poor economic times hit and people go out to buy everything. So some people ended up with 20 years worth of soap and other with 0 soap. So even when things are available, there are massive shortages because of no confidence in the supply chain. E.g. a bank run, but on commodities.
Add to it all the lay offs that are "justified" e.g. alcohol producers not being able to sell in Canadian, and all the companies that will lay off the people that can't normally fire because they are a protected class. E.e. older people, blacks, women, religious people, etc They can and will blame it on tariffs.
Add to it that all the social nets, FEMA, USAID, etc are being gutted and the valuable people are leaving before they are fired.
Add to it all the doctors no longer practicing in certain states where certain medial laws are written so poorly you can go to jail for being in the room when there is a stillbirth.
Or all the educated professionals fleeing the US for other countries.
The brain drain is real.
Add it it medical issues. Utah is going to stop putting fluoride in water. How did that work our for Calgary? Or right, more cavities, more medical expenses, more surgical mishaps, to the point where they are adding it back into their water.
I'm not saying don't follow OPs advice, Or that there would be scams and whatever. Remember that US seator's family who fixed egg prices a couple years ago. There will 100% be issues like that.
I am saying they are underselling the shit that is going to happen to the US for the next 10-15 years because of decision just SO FAR under this president and that prices will go up even without corruption or grift, because things are a couple ripples away from other things.
Oh yea, this is just the tip of the iceberg, there's going to be a cascade of shit happening, much of which you stated.
And people don't realize that the US economy is like a car, it's got lots and lots of moving parts, and there's a torsional wind-up from the time changes are made to when the wheels turn and the car moves.
JUST from the stuff that's already happened in a couple-few months we'll see the impact and it will be real real rough.
It’s the same thing during Biden, oh it’s inflation, meanwhile Kroger’s was making record profits, but because by in large the American population is freaking stupid, they were all in on inflation and not corporate greed jacking the prices.
Its not even an excuse, if american products are the only affordable products, demand will by far exceed supply and prices will shoot up until they can either start producing significantly more or demand goes down
TP is the easiest thing to stock up on- and there is no way that things continue to go this bad for more than another year- and that is about 2 costco bundles of TP that you can literally store anywhere dry.
Picked up 2 at costco the other day- still about $40 total and will last the wife and i until next year- 1 pack of paper towels (we just use dish rags most of the time) and we do not need paper products for a long time.
If I could make a recommendation now - before it goes that direction, buy a couple of commercial size toilet paper holders, then 12 packs of the 9” commercial rolls. During the pandemic when everyone was rushing the stores for normal rolls, I noticed no one seemed to think of commercial rolls, and never had trouble ordering more online. About $55 per box of 12, one box lasts two people about three months. Boardwalk brand is good.
Isn't that crap the single ply crap that's smooth and feels like sand paper on the ass but somehow you still need a lot of it because it seems like the poop doesn't stick to it for some reason?
When you couldn’t take a shit without checking for supplies is the time magats thought America was at its greatest. Only fair to get rid of the toilet paper to make america great again, right?
When you couldn’t take a shit without checking for supplies is the time magats thought America was at its greatest.
No, MAGAts think America was at its greatest in the 1890s: When most industries were either monopolies or controlled by a massive trust, women couldn't vote, and segregation was the law of the land.
That was never a real reason. That’s just what people outwardly said to either avoid saying the real reasons (which unsurprisingly sound bad when spoken out loud), or because they are too misinformed or stupid to really know what they’re doing.
A year from now, when things are pretty fucking bad, don’t forget who among your friends outwardly showed support for this asshole. Things aren’t going to get better anytime soon.
Every person on the Left who hangs their hat on Trump winning due to the economy didn’t listen to a fucking thing Trump said.
Trump did not say he’d use tariffs to brings jobs back. He said he would use tariffs to “make them pay.”
His entire campaign was revenge politics. Any comment even remotely related to the economy, including the shit about tariffs, was just repackaged messaging dir revenge politics.
People didn’t vote for Trump to deal with inflation. They voted for Trump to get revenge against “them.” Who is “them”? “Them” is whoever needs to be the scapegoat for that day.
They voted for him cause they were fed up with being poor and democrats offered nothing to them
Same as always I hate trump just as much as anyone but yeah democrats treat the poor like subhuman and say the system
Works just fine so what do you expect from people
Who the system has failed
Hmm…local food banks and support services for the needy weren’t suddenly having their funding cut off and their food orders cancelled by the USDA under the democrats like what’s happening now, and that I’m witnessing in my own community. This administration is literally eliminating the safety nets for anyone fallen on hard times. And they are doing so without warning nor time for these organizations to put alternative plans in place. You think the last administration marginalized the needy. This administration is trying to wipe them out.
Anything remotely helpful to poor people can be considered socialism so not really valuable to think in those terms cause yeah I mean that’s what we/they need lol they need socialism 1000%
Today I rewatched " The Grapes Of Wrath". The book and the movie are about 85 years old. Ultra heartbreaking viewed through the lens of present day when it appears that it's the road we are headed back down.
I think it's foolish and malicious to accuse all of them of doing it for racism. The number of videos out there of people being upset because all of the shit they thought orange don was gonna fix, he made worse, and all of the things they thought he was going to protect, he's actively attacking. Some people are very easily influenced, even otherwise intelligent people, and others just aren't mentally capable of understanding properly either because the education system failed them, or they lack the mental capacity to understand, or both.
Racists scream the loudest, even now whilst they still remain to be the minority, because they want to look and feel like they're the majority. It won't take much to make them afraid again, just like we did back in the 80s and 90s, it's just gonna take a lot of fighting to do it, like it did back then.
But America needs to fix its education problems to ensure this can't happen again.
I don’t think racism has to do with a big section of it, I think people just wanted to take revenge on the left for the COVID years. MAGA isn’t monolithic, I agree.
Ah, my mistake. I agree, revenge is certainly a likely part of many, but I'd say that most were probaboy duped into believing this clown would actually fix the problems that happened. I thought they were fairly open about their want for revenge against dems though, but perhaps you're right that more of them won't be very open about it.
It was always the hate and racism (and tax breaks for a few of them). The civil war was about 'states rights' and not slavery, civil rights opposition wasn't rooted in racism but out of a 'concern for the racial purity of whites and blacks', opposing gay rights was because of 'the sanctity of marriage is gods word'. They like to hide their racism behind religion and other made-up bullshit
Alternate take: I don’t think they voted to intentionally hurt others. But I do think they voted to try to take care of themselves, without giving a flying F about how it would affect anybody else.
Thats kinda the same thing. Except they weren't ignorant or not giving a f. They goaded and goaded about how POC and queer people would been "put in their place" once Trump won.
Yeah and you should check your sources. Your first source is a random reddit post with zero data values and your cnn article is referring to wholesale and doesn’t reflect consumer prices.
A dozen eggs used to run me $1.98, it currently runs me $5.96. It was up to $9 recently.
People voted for trump because they wanted to believe every single bullshit he was spewing, regardless of his history. Also, kamala was a disaster candidate. Those are two reasons people voted for trump, if they voted at all.
Has anyone heard what the national crisis is against the world that gave Trump the ability to raise tariffs on everybody? I am so confused at why and how this is allowed to happen. I know the excuse for raising tariffs on Canada and Mexico, the fentynol crisis.
Real answer:
For longer then Trump has cared about politics, he's thought that trade deficits are a bad thing, a sign of weakness. If we are buying more from Canada then they are buying from us, to him that's America loosing money.
He's been complaining about it for ever.
That's why these aren't "reciprocal" like he's saying. He thinks that trade deficits is just cash out there to grab.
He doesn't understand basic economics.
Gotta wonder wonder if it will hit a point where people start real protests, like in the country of Georgia.
Just his shitty personality, perpetual victim mentality and delusions that this will immediately bring manufacturing back to the US and all the out of work federal workers will work in factories. Plus he’s vindictive and all the other countries have spoken out against him so he’s putting tariffs on everything. It’s so bizarre to know we are probably watching a depression unfold.
This is literally it. Every single MAGA leader suffers from incredible insecurity. They’re starting at a place of perceived grievance, which is why almost every single step they take is vindictive. They think every relationship is predatory, and can’t fathom the idea of mutual benefit, and certainly not outright compassion. It’s an absolutely sick, twisted, abusive type of “leadership”, if you can even call it that.
Ahhh, yes. The 42 lbs they found in Wisconsin and assumed it was from Canada. Meanwhile 10 tonnes was confiscated at the Mexican border.
It was allowed to happen because too many Americans believed that a conman from New York who Bankrupted a casino and shafted everyone who he made a deal with was a “smart” businessman.
He needs to rebuild the defense industrial complex because (checks notes) he trashed 80 years of leading international security cooperation with the western world in under three months.
Second part is sarcasm only because he's too stupid to comprehend that, first part however is the honest truth of how is justifying it.
I mean, we gave the president emergency war fighting powers 25 years ago, whatever powers this is kinda don't matter compared to the ability to bomb anyone in the world, quite literally.
75% of the phones and batteries we have are now facing the 34% increase in tariffs. Apple is down 7% just since the start of aftermarket and I guarantee you it isn't going up anytime soon.
It's not that easy. I researched this two years ago and saw the writing on the wall here.
Problem 1. Who owns the land where the lithium is domestically. Look at that for awhile. These are protected lands, sacred ground, indigenous lands, lands with towns already on them.
Problem 2. Water. The amount of water needed for the mining and refinement is staggering. We are already in risky water business not just nationally but globally. Very sticky politics for a long time already.
Problem 3. Expertise. Nobody in the world is an expert in the process except for one group. The Chinese. Because they've had time to develop the expertise because they do not care about pesky things like the environment or laws voted on by people or indigenous land rights. Even the Canadian companies you'll find advertising as capable are ding ding ding you guessed it, actually Chinese companies.
I've read that 4 States are 'amending' child labour laws to allow 14 year old to work longer hours & 17-18 year olds to work night shifts during school time 😡. Apparently, this is due to a labour shortage caused by immigrants leaving quickly (voluntarily or otherwise).
Vance wants to give tax breaks to manufacturing companies that to move to the US, which is fine, but for them to be competitive with Asian manufacturers, they're going to have to slash the wage bill (except for their CEOs I'm guessing) & crush the unions. This will mean either robots & fewer jobs or Asian style sweat shops. Either way, it's so sad to see what is happening to your country dudes.
Yeah, Mark, that works for some folx, but how about the folx who can only buy as they go? What about the ones who can't buy in bulk? Mark sounds like a goid guy, but it's still about the money for him, not the damage done to humans without a lot of it
For those folx, no. Mark is not talking to people with far fewer resources. Mark is about scale and margins.
Granted, he's a more democratic (small d) human than other most other investors, but I'm suggesting before we think it's egalitarian he's sharing survival tips for when this thing collapses, we need to step back and see who's left out and why.
They are the millions who can't stock up like us because they're still trying to recover from COVID. They pay as they go, live paycheck/payout to paycheck/payout. You know, our Uber drivers, food servers/makers, dishwashers and janitors; dashers, retail, nearly anyone in service, healthcare workers, etc. All the immigrants who pick our food, clean hotel rooms, and take everyone's shit - they are not in that position.
I'm suggesting that if Mr. Cuban were more democratic than capitalistic, he would be organizing with the other billionaires who can help to do something about all the humans under attack - not just neglected - but severed from their means of living. They are just trying to survive; they don't have the resources to stock up.
These tens of millions of vulnerable humans are exactly who democracies are designed to protect.
When Mark ignores them, no one else can see them.
When he doesn't acknowledge just WHO is about to find basic needs tripled in price - the ones who CAN'T stock up - they are invisible.
Not saying he's intends this: I'm pointing out how his advocacy functions with respect to those left out.
Not only do they do continue to raise prices, but shrink faction is a real thing. So, we still pay more for less. And there are so many people who’ll say that tariffs are no big deal - “just buy American made products”.
They don’t seem to understand that when the cost of imported goods go up, by say 25%, producers of goods in the U.S. will raise their prices accordingly by 20+%. Also, most items online and in stores are made in China, so it’s not that easy to replace all goods with those made in America
Already seeing food item weights/sizes shrinking while the price still goes up. Our groceries are up $50-75 in just a few years plus our local food bank is now empty…
After 9/11 the airlines began charging for checked bags, used to be 2 free up to 50 pounds each. They said it was temporary. It's been a temporary charge for close to 25 years now.
Prepping against inflation is a situation you can never win, you just lessen the speed of decline. Eating yesterday's purchase is cheaper than eating today's, and tomorrow's food is cheaper today than it will be tomorrow. You're never done.
Not to mention that mass hoarding behavior contributes right back to inflation. Yes, please triple your demand for that commodity right fucking now everyone, that'll help prices stay prices lower for longer, obviosuly!
Sometimes I think it should be mandatory for all kids to see It's A Wonderful Life (now that the TV monoculture is gone) so everyone has the concept of a bank run to refer to.
Yup already already did over the past year starting last late Feb to prepare for the eventual H5N1 pandemic. It's also a great way to beat inflation because I stock up when something is at a deep discount. And I have a long term supply of everything I use, so I never have a need to buy anything right away, I can wait to replenish my supplies when they're on sale only.
yup i do this- but the days of big purchases are done for things like canned goods- now i is a few flats of whatever i need to restock and that is about it. The pantry is already deep.
Y'all. I bought a 17 cubic foot freezer. 100 pounds of meat. Froze that shit. 50 pounds of beans. 25 of rice. Based on current use, I should have flipped those two. More rice, less bean.
A few flats of canned veggies. A few cases of TP.
I know it's not enough. There's no way I can buy four years of supplies. Impossible task for an average joe. Tough times ahead.
So the billionaire's advice to weather the upcoming economic crisis isn't to be as careful with your money as you can and only buy what you absolutely need. It's to panic buy and give him and his billionaire buddies as much money as you can.
True, but he's also more wrong. We're going to get squeezed hard. Because after all, capitalism is great so we're just going to kill competition. Makes perfect sense, don't it?
Fluoride in toothpaste doesn't have a long shelf life so don't buy years worth. Could be an idea to get fluoride as a supplement though just in case RFK has all the states take it out of the water.
You idiots realize Trump’s had tariffs in his first term and prices didn’t increase. Step away from the edge and stop believing everything leftist lunatics are saying. Every day is an IQ test.
That was just an excuse. They didn’t want to publicly admit they worship a demented convicted felon. They knew as much as anyone inflation was because Covid disrupted supply chains and it was a worldwide phenomenon and not any administrations fault. But this WILL be trumps fault as any downturn is not because of any previous administration because he inherited a good economy with the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years.
Those who panic make it hard on everyone. We didn't need to have a TP shortage because of COVID. It was a created hysteria, just as this is.
Storing consumables is a good idea that those who are able to do should have already been doing. Fake scare tactics causing unwarranted hysteria that creates manufactured crises are dangerous. Build you home storage if you can, but don't do it when everyone else is and don't try to scare people into creating unneeded crises.
I’m all for onshore production. But this isn’t the way to do that.
Even if - and that’s a Trump “hyuge” IF - you could somehow build all the factories overnight, any business would only employ the bare minimum of workers and automate everything else. No one is going to pay high wages, sick time, vacation, etc when you can run machinery 24/7 for fraction of the cost.
Add to that AI is replacing basic administrative tasks and evolving extremely fast.
The right way is to create incentives for businesses to invest in onshore projects for a few years and allow them to grow before slapping tariffs on everything.
This is going to be a disaster for a few years, if it even works as intended - which I highly doubt
Yeah I don't think a lot of people realize that Pax Americana is dead. There is going to be a new head of the world order by the end of the decade, if not sooner, and it's almost certainly going to be China.
The only part I disagree with is the assumption that China will create its own world order. We’ve all grown up where there was always a stable world order, but this is not the norm for humans.
China was supposed to start weakening after 2030, and the US could have maintained its position in the world had it played its cards right. Instead, the US fucked itself long term.
The thing that makes it extra dumb is he keeps going back and forth on the tariffs, adding and removing them. I don’t see how businesses could make long term decisions based on policy that might change overnight.
It’s strange that more people don’t talk about this. If Nancy Pelosi does it in broad daylight why shouldn’t the Trump administration go to extremes of insider trading in every way they see fit? Seems the Russian connection is a convenient cover for what’s just massive financial corruption
I mean you got that sort of backward. Who was fixing egg prices democrats... or republicans. Who wouldn't implement money laundering rules in their casino.... Trump Why? Russians laundering money. Whose husband was the head of the new york stock exchange who told their constituents Covid would be fine while dumping everything and buying all the medical stocks... Republicans.
Who said, "Obama ammo shortage!" while they slowed down ammo production to inflate prices... It wasn't the democratic owned ammo factories.
You can "both sides" this if you want to keep your head in the sand but if we measure corruption it's not even close.
Let me propose something else that fits with those actions... Pump and dump.
When you know stocks with go up or down you can buy things like shorts. So all the rich people in the corrupt circle with Trump short the stock, then he announced tariffs, then they make a shit ton of money as the stock market crashes. Then they buy low, and wait a while. Sell a bit and buy more shorts before the next announcement.
People say Trump was so bad a business man he bankrupted a Casino, but what really happened is he would not comply with money laundering laws.
This guy has been involved in Laundering Russian money his entire adult life. Remember that 40 mil Florida property he sold for like 90 or 100 million to a Russian oligarch. Which then "cut it up" and when the last piece sold the Russian was at a loss if he hadn't done anything with the money other than keeping it in a bank.
This is not new. The guy is corrupt and doing corrupt things STILL.
Some examples of tariffs causing long term harm decades after their passage, and how difficult tariffs are to remove once in place. This will be long term damage, stretching out over decades.
And with those factories or private equity businesses, it’s going to hire the lowest bidder and higher the cheapest that they can get and therefore you’ll have super high rates of injury or sickness for food. People who are really not qualified.
I work in automation. The ratio starts off as basically every job lost to automation gets replaced with a support job. That ration falls down and down and down as time goes on. Also the support jobs only work if you have the right training in the population you can afford to employ
Most of that stuff in brought in do it will simply be in preparation for tariffs. Everything is going that way. Auto parts and insurance is already up. This is all due to dumpster big mouth. We also lost 40 some percent of farm exports for to this mess. That is for 20 years. That’s a big hit to farms. These farms will be lost to bankruptcy
If you're just thinking this now, you've missed the boat. Ever since the day after Trump was elected, we've been stockpiling common items, of course within the shelf life.
The main thing you should have been doing since then is not spending money on pointless stockpiling or other pointless discretionary spending.
This is actually good for the planet. Just reduce consumption by 20% across the board. Reduce !Reuse! Then recycle. Aluminum and steel tariffs raise prices on recycling stocks.
We don’t need to buy new clothing that ends up in landfills a few months later.
So there are hidden benefits that he didn’t intend.
Start calling them the environmental protection groups.
He’s not wrong. The paint industry is already starting to jack up the prices and claiming it’s because of the tariffs on steel. Because paying .10 cents more on a steel can justifies a $3-10 price increase for the final product…
Same with HVAC and plumbing supplies. Many products already had a 20% increase last month. Customers can’t afford to support more price increases. We are rapidly approaching a dangerous cliff here.
I own a smaller HVAC company. Ditto all of the above. I had people using space heaters all winter because they couldn’t swing a 1k repair and couldn’t get financing, had no credit.
Just when I’m finally in a position to start building my “retirement cabin” in the deep deep woods. Feeling much less excited and more deeply stressed out than I would have expected to be at this stage of my apocalypse prepping tbh.
I’m unfortunately very aware. Since 2019 my equipment and material costs have near tripled. It was already expected to go up this year because of the new refrigerant adding tariffs on top is going to be brutal af.
It’s absolutely wild. But the cycle continues, people finance their installs all the time and will still be paying off that unit by the time it goes out in 8-10 years because the quality is in the toilet
I would argue we jumped off the affordability cliff a couple years ago personally. The cliff we jumped off in November is a different kind of cliff.
Thing is people have been fudging their way through the affordability issue by using credit and now they are running out of that option at the same time that all this tariff crap is jacking up prices even higher. It’s kind of a perfect storm.
I sell bread to stores.. even before all this (it’s not related) we jumped up the price of buns by about 30cents each 8 pack. The big box stores (excluding Walmart, they generally keep their prices in line) raised them by like 80-90 cents. This is going to work the same way. 10% on supply side is 30% for the demand side.
Its oppertunity costs. Less steel is getting in. It can go in products A B and C. If profits on making A and B are higher than C (paint cans) Then either the profit to make C has to match A & B (e.g. cost of C goes up) or no one makes C because they get X profit from A & B and would lose money on C.
While there are 100% grifts and corruption happening, it's not simple 7th grade economics we are dealing with. Everything will go up in price because of tariffs. For legit reasons.
Oh I get that, but having seen the greed 1st hand working through the pandemic and “shortages” the cost of paint industry just those 4 years went up 200%. It never went down even after the shortages stopped, also companies were bragging about record profits after nearly doubling the cost of every product in a single year.
Corporate Greed is a major factor for the increases, most of the shortage costs are just gaslighting.
The worst place I have ever worked was a local store. It was my happy place before I started there and it was the most petty, clique ridden, nightmare I have ever experienced. And they intrinsically price gauge.
I’m all for supporting local businesses, but in my experience, working for small businesses has always been far worse than working for a larger corporation. Every small business owner I’ve experienced has micromanaged, tried their hardest to skirt labor laws, pay issues, no insurance, no 401K, will fire you for absolutely no reason, etc.
In contrast, every larger company I have worked at has been the complete opposite. Sure, you’re just a soulless cog in a gigantic corporate machine, but these places actually try to adhere to basic labor laws, offer insurance options, have retirement plans, and so on.
Most places in the US don't have mom and pop shops selling basics anymore. They've already been driven out, often decades ago already. High population centers/cities, sure, but most places the only mom and pop shops still around are for specialty or custom goods, which isn't the focus here.
Truth. I'm in a very rural area and on a fixed income. My options are limited to Walmart, Amazon, Grocery Outlet or Raley's. Raley's is overpriced and I only buy sale items there. Walmart has consistent items at the lowest prices. I gotta make my dollars stretch. 🤷♂️
Stores won't wait until they have to "replenish inventory" before raising prices. Also, stores have been raising prices since COVID. I feel like the person who posted this just hasn't been paying attention to grocery prices and they have no idea how grocery stores handle inventory and pricing.
Stores will raise prices, but they aren't going to wait until they order more inventory. Stores can adjust prices instantly now, it's not like the 1980s where they had to manually put new price tags on everything. At places like Walmart and large grocery chains, prices are set by the central office and take effect in all stores immediately.
If you want to blame someone for inducing panic buying, you should probably point to the guy that just imposed tariffs on all of the country’s trade. Posts like this are a symptom, not the cause.
Anybody wise enough to finally get it still has a great chance, people won't panic buy for a long time they'll just keep paying higher prices until they break. So, tomorrow morning is a great time to start.
They will probably gouge too, but also they already load balance. Some stuff costs a lot more than it needs to, because other stuff is sold a very low profit margins.
They'll likely lift all prices a bit but maybe jack up some high tariff stuff more. Especially if there are lower cost alternatives that are equivalent.
Local cheeses, meats, vegetables, fruit, and grain based goods will likely stay reasonable. Just focus on buying those.
I'm more worried about prices of perishables more than anything else really, considering:
1) the assault on immigrants (all of our farm, and meat and seafood processing labor),
2) the absurd TAKING BACK of already allocated and promised funds for farmers (USAID grants and subsidies) - some domestic farms are already going bankrupt as a result or have been unable to plant/prep sufficiently in Spring for later harvests,
3) tariff/trade threats on Mexico (all the produce we get from them); also fyi, all of our fertilizer comes from Canada, and I'm sure most animal feed is imported as well; also tariffs on steel and such will def affect farm equipment costs, which are already very expensive; and cost of debt for loans on these will remain high as interest rates are going to stay up as long as inflation is bad, which is going to be as long as we have tariffs...gov't loans, grants, and subsidies used to be a crucial way to fund these big purchases before they gutted this essential funding...
4) then there's the avian flu wrecking the poultry industry - this is NOT limited to birds, it is also transmitted to certain mammals like cows and cats (and we know how they're handling disease outbreak prevention and response nowadays...this could get worse for other species) - another reason to NOT ever get raw milk, and look out for your pets, what you are feeding them. Bird flu will kill cats.
5) ....also heads up, the other place we get almost all our produce from is CA's 'salad bowl of the country/world,' which has had repeated lithium ion battery factory fires that have dumped toxic heavy metals all over the region. Since this regime has gutted every protective regulatory/oversight agency we have, you should know they are not going to make sure any of that produce or farmland soil is safe for production and consumption before selling it. Remediation would require 2-3yrs of foregone revenue streams and further inputs (like growing remediation crops like hemp, sunflowers for multiple rounds to filter the soil, and then properly disposing of those crops), so that is not happening. The farmers there have been screaming about it but few are listening to them. Without govt intervention they won't have a choice but to sell it or go bankrupt kind of situation. And the govt is letting that lithium ion battery company be responsible for their own policing and cleanup. So yeah, I won't trust any produce from this region for several years now I don't think. Status Coup is one independent outlet that has some footage and coverage on it you can check out.
6) Really not trying to terrify everyone completely, only sufficiently warn you so you can try to prepare as best you can, but bee colony collapse is the worst this year that it's ever been from what I've read, and this is quite likely to induce a food crisis for all animal-pollinated crops and their downstream products. This is largely caused by pollution, pesticide use, climate change, and destruction of natural habitat. Under this regime, those things will all only get worse, at the same time that science and research agencies that have previously helped protect us from such threats are eliminated. Also I doubt our govt is still supporting beekeepers and the like. There are also pollinators other than honeybees that are under threat.
Moral of the story is, Now is the best time to start a home veggie garden!! You can also learn how to can/jar your excess production! Buy a book on homesteading, you'll learn a lot, and it might help quell some anxiety to learn some tools at your disposal, if nothing else! I like to have hardcopies of things like that in case power is not always available. and the easiest way to eat local is buying in season! Download a chart/calendar of what's in season when for your area. Hit the farmer's markets, sign up for a local CSA, etc. I also stocked up on things like dried staples like rice and beans in case things get really bad, I can rely on things like that for a very long time when the garden isn't productive at least! Just keep a bunch of spices so it doesn't get too dreary and monotonous. And grow perennial herbs! Good luck everyone!!! Be safe, and stick together with your neighbors, that helps too!
Yeah! For broad overview I like Homesteading and Back to Basics by Abigail Gehring, but I’m sure there are a bunch of good ones out there.
I have a ton of gardening books so that’s a little too hard to choose, but I think the most useful ones are on permaculture and those specifically addressing your region/locality, like native plants, what you can grow there and when, and even plant ID and foraging guides. For free, local resources and guides, also check out your state university home and garden/ master gardener extension online.
There’s also books that dive into preservation methods in more detail - canning, drying, curing, pickling, fermenting. If you want more recipe ideas and stuff those are great
.
On YouTube there’s some fun content producers like @blackforager and @spicymustache for tips and tricks, @paragraphic has neat mini docus on ppl doing all kinds of awesome stuff, and rn @togetherwegrow has me wanting to try aqua or hydroponics next! He’s also got great info if you live in a desert area.
And there’s pretty good apps out there these days to help with gardening if that’s more your thing. I use PictureThis to keep track of a lot of my plants and their care schedules (this isn’t super necessary I’m just pretty extra about it lol), but there’s some more specifically oriented to vegetable growing too.
It looks as though a lot of folks here are stewing in the same sauce, so allow me to sprinkle in a little devil's advocate for variety.
Assuming that Mark Cuban actually said this, who is that again? Oh, right, a business tycoon whose work involves selling you things. So when a Mark-Cuban-adjacent individual tells you to buy something, in this case "anything you can find storage space for," they are at work doing their job. They are not some good Samaritan looking out for your well-being. Do you really think that MARK CUBAN cares about your toothpaste supply? Come on, bro. You're better than that.
Next, think about any significant storm forecast ever. It doesn't matter if it's wind, water, snow or whatever. If there's some potentially looming threat, what happens? A bunch of people run to their "local Wal-Mart or big box retailer (curious how he ommited local small businesses)" and they buy out all of the bread, water, and toilet paper. It doesn't really matter how credible the storm is, demand skyrockets and supply plummets. The result is that these same retailers hike up the prices for those that didn't make a run on the store.
Tariffs are just the flavor of the week when it comes to local storm predictions. And you want to know the kicker? These people that listen to billionaires, like Mark Cuban, and take their word as gospel, what happens next? Supply goes down, prices go up, and Mark Cuban gets to stand in front of all his lemmings, saying, "Look! You see? Tariffs!"
Meanwhile, he enjoys a spike in income because for all of those things he suggested you buy, all of the business money was already spent on them, so they just need them to sell in order to capture the profits. Then, he can use his revenue spike to pay Tariffs and adjust pricing upward on new shipments.
That being said, if you give his statement another look, another way of saying the same thing is this:
DANCE, MONKEY! DANCE!
Then again, I'm simply playing devil's advocate, so I'm inclined to agree with you. 😇
How they hiked the price of literally everything and blamed it on supply issues because of “covid”. After covid got under control, prices remained the same because John consumer will still pay.
And only possible because reserve production capacity has been destroyed by mergers. Democrats share the blame for ignoring antitrust for a generation.
Even if you already have cavities and missing teeth, you should brush and floss the ones you do have!! Keep those bottom chompers working well and healthy!
If this is too personal, please ignore, but are the top ones painful? Are you able to receive dental care?
Naaaaa I don't give a shit. They're all coming out. Top and bottom. And yeah they hurt like a mfer! 😆 But I can't afford to fix em just quite yet but I'm working on it. It's crazy........I can go get a $30k loan RIGHT NOW to buy a car but CARE CREDIT won't give me anything to fix my teeth. Lol
I was undisciplined with oral health. Went to prison and had a front tooth with a root canal so it was super brittle. Coward hit me on the basketball court and knocked it out. I stopped caring after that one went, the rest followed.
Healthcare/dental care in the US is absolutely bonkers. Maybe you should get the loan, buy something to then sell, and then use that $ for the dental 🤣
BUT bacteria from the mouth can get into the bloodstream and be bad for your whole body, so please take care of yourself! You seem to have a great attitude (and captivating eyes!) and I wish you all the best.
Yeah my eyes are pretty cool. Like 5% of people in the world have hazel eyes.......🥰 Lol And yeah I gargle mouthwash and peroxide every now and then. Lol I should be able to get these suckers fixed in another couple years.
When you go through your 100 rolls of paper towels, they'll be waiting for you at $7 a roll anyway. What's the point of stocking up if it never blows over?
The posting alluding to Mark Cuban has been deleted. I don’t see where he has said what was quoted here originally. The “Sh!T’s getting real.” post above is deleted at its source. FYI
They're likely jacking up prices on current inventory now.
Don't buy - anything. Of course there will be must haves like food, but commit to buying nothing new for a year. Buy used. Join "Buy Nothing" groups. Sell or make what you have and don't want or need available to those who will.
The way to not pay tariffs is to not pay for things.
I noticed some of our common Walmart grocery items have already been raised between 12 and 19% just from our last order less than a week ago to tonight.
Yea bro everyone has tons of money lying around for that. FUCK ALL BILLIONAIRE DETACHED FROM REALITY IDEAS. The most delusional god complex fucking bullshit I’ve ever seen.
TY. It is. The EU put out an emergency crisis alert advising all Europeans stock up on water, food to be ready for power outage...idk why and THAT scares me. if actual war is coming, its bc of 47. the USA is alone in the world. we tried and prayed and jfc he’s fucked up the USA burned every bridges to everyone on Earth. good luck and be well ✨🇨🇦♥️
How about you don't buy, and watch those corporations forced to lower prices, or they force Trump to remove the tariffs before the economy collapses further, they can't bail out every corporation this time
Has anyone verified this is really Mark Cuban’s account? I’m not disagreeing with him. I just need to know he actually said it before I send it to my parents.
I'm not a prepper but I already knew this... been stockpiling this crap for three months for exactly this scenario. Got the last of my Container Store impulse buys out of my system and filled all my bathroom shelves with everything I need for at least a year.
We’ve been saying this for years in prepping circles and now because Cuban says something we’re supposed to pay attention? Oh well I suppose if this is what it takes for some to wake up that’s good.
Well, it turns out that the shit may "hit the fan" after all.
How does everyone feel when it may be DELIBERATELY CAUSED BY A "REPUBLICAN" when all those people were saying that it was the Democrats that hated America????
All to make sure the billionaires got another whopping tax cut.
Good message overall, but toothpaste is a bad example.
People overuse toothpaste to a crazy degree because they put an amount on their toothbrush comparable to what is shown in the commercials, which is WAY more than you need. Like this could easily be over a month's worth of toothpaste that is displayed as being an normal for one use. It isn't. It's a marketing tactic to get you to overuse the product when you don't need to.
One travel size toothpaste should last you a year to a year and a half. So considering that dentists give those out for free when you get a cleaning, and you should be getting a cleaning every six months, toothpaste is free. Obviously some people need specialty toothpaste and that's fine. But for those that don't need specialty toothpaste, the toothpaste budget should be $0.
I thought when bill clinton said "I did not have sex with that woman" it was the most embarrassing scandal of our government. That's a bedtime story compared to this dumpster fire....
Cuban's not wrong but there's more to it than corporate greed. As the price for imported products goes up, demand for domestically produced (non-tariffed) goods will go up. This demand begins to outpace domestic supply, and prices go up on US produced items. This is not a win-win. This is a lose-lose for the consumer.
But that's that 4D chess thing and Donny is playing tiddly winks.
Right, he only opened an online pharmacy to cut down the insane prices of medications everyday people need, essentially giving a middle finger to the profiteers embedded within the pharmaceutical industry.
this country is getting the president it deserves. a selfish me me me at the cost of the world population. whos only care is how cheap their next iphone is and whos in the next marvel movie. wich company sold the most candy in halloween. wich brand makes the videogame. a population who cared more about haircuts than grandma and grandpa. who cares more about hearing about a bully than the act of bullying.
Literally just amounts to 10% tariffs. So realistically, some dollars and cents more per month. US is thankfully very strong consumer base so they will still spend and it’ll be fine even if the prices go up so it’s like a higher tax for us. That’s still going to be a good thing for us.
Mark Cuban if you really said that you are an idiot. Stop creating hysteria. Yes it's smart to have supply on hand , NO it won't be enough to beat inflation you dufus!
Or don't stock up and cut back on use, wherever possible . Join the national strike, even lightly, and6Let their sales suffer along with all the mega corps.
yeah but WALMART is the last one we should be pumping up for a bajillion reasons...I look everywhere else first....also they started switching to digital price tags awhile ago so they can continually ramp up prices instantly with no downtime in order to exploit these kinds of situations...I'd check Costco first at least (also just an FYI that Sam's Club is also Walmart)
Shop the sales folks. That’s one piece of Great Depression advice I try to remember. Stock up on what you need through out the year when it goes on sale.

It's not an "excuse". It's how tariffs are designed to work...by boosting domestic business compared to foreign. If prices don't go up, the tariffs literally didn't work. It's a tax.
lil_internn@reddit
On us it’s a tax on us consumers why not just tax wealthy why do we need to foot the bill for this mfs tariff idea that might work and might alienate us from every ally
PCLoadPLA@reddit
It's the whole point.
floyd616@reddit
PCLoadPLA@reddit
Kjs1108@reddit
Ya, it’s definitely going to be hard on us the consumer. I wish there was away companies couldn’t pass the cost of the tariffs on the consumer. We the people alway get the short end of the stick. We need some strategies to combat this. I’m not sure stockpiling goods is the way to go.
lil_internn@reddit
Yeah it’s crazy he can just say it’s a tax on foreign countries and 100 million people somehow believe him it’s like just 100% false
single_use_12345@reddit
Actually, as business owner on the European side I'll increase my prices too because everting will be more expensive.
F0xtr0tUnif0rm@reddit
Yeah half the problem is these companies will jack up prices before the tariffs even affect them, specifically on inventory they already have. And then once prices for them come back down we won't see much discount. We all got to witness this recently during covid.
StromGames@reddit
Which kind of makes sense? If it costs me $10 to import an apple, I'm going to sell them for $11, even if the ones I bought were bought for $3.
TheBlacktom@reddit
It's not an excuse, it's basic economics. Demand stays the same and supply is dereasing. Part of the supply is more expensive because of tariffs, this causes the rest of the supply to also become more expensive.
Excellent-Hat5142@reddit
No, they wouldn’t do that.

Rice. It's easy to store and is still cheap. Dried beans ( lentils are high protein and cook quickly) Canned meats, vegetables, fruits. If you can afford it, freeze dried foods. Instant coffee. Sugar. Salt. Flour. Baking soda.
cornmonger_@reddit
of course, if they pull this stunt for too long, they're re-opening the door for mom & pop stores, which large retailers have basically undercut for decades
large retailers can say whatever they want, but if the price is right, people will start frequenting small businesses more

the_real_dairy_queen@reddit
And just like after COVID they won’t come back down.
ruat_caelum@reddit
Not only grift.
PlayfulSurprise5237@reddit
Oh yea, this is just the tip of the iceberg, there's going to be a cascade of shit happening, much of which you stated.
And people don't realize that the US economy is like a car, it's got lots and lots of moving parts, and there's a torsional wind-up from the time changes are made to when the wheels turn and the car moves.
JUST from the stuff that's already happened in a couple-few months we'll see the impact and it will be real real rough.

About $55 per box of 12, one box lasts two people about three months. Boardwalk brand is good.

Remember when inflation was the reason people were voting for Trump... Good times
PokeyDiesFirst@reddit
That was never a real reason. That’s just what people outwardly said to either avoid saying the real reasons (which unsurprisingly sound bad when spoken out loud), or because they are too misinformed or stupid to really know what they’re doing.
A year from now, when things are pretty fucking bad, don’t forget who among your friends outwardly showed support for this asshole. Things aren’t going to get better anytime soon.
ARazorbacks@reddit
Every person on the Left who hangs their hat on Trump winning due to the economy didn’t listen to a fucking thing Trump said.
Trump did not say he’d use tariffs to brings jobs back. He said he would use tariffs to “make them pay.”
His entire campaign was revenge politics. Any comment even remotely related to the economy, including the shit about tariffs, was just repackaged messaging dir revenge politics.
People didn’t vote for Trump to deal with inflation. They voted for Trump to get revenge against “them.” Who is “them”? “Them” is whoever needs to be the scapegoat for that day.
lil_internn@reddit
They voted for him cause they were fed up with being poor and democrats offered nothing to them Same as always I hate trump just as much as anyone but yeah democrats treat the poor like subhuman and say the system Works just fine so what do you expect from people Who the system has failed

PokeyDiesFirst@reddit
I don’t think racism has to do with a big section of it, I think people just wanted to take revenge on the left for the COVID years. MAGA isn’t monolithic, I agree.
594896582@reddit
Ah, my mistake. I agree, revenge is certainly a likely part of many, but I'd say that most were probaboy duped into believing this clown would actually fix the problems that happened. I thought they were fairly open about their want for revenge against dems though, but perhaps you're right that more of them won't be very open about it.

rowenstraker@reddit
It was always the hate and racism (and tax breaks for a few of them). The civil war was about 'states rights' and not slavery, civil rights opposition wasn't rooted in racism but out of a 'concern for the racial purity of whites and blacks', opposing gay rights was because of 'the sanctity of marriage is gods word'. They like to hide their racism behind religion and other made-up bullshit
Blackbiird666@reddit

rogue-padawan@reddit
Real answer: For longer then Trump has cared about politics, he's thought that trade deficits are a bad thing, a sign of weakness. If we are buying more from Canada then they are buying from us, to him that's America loosing money. He's been complaining about it for ever.
That's why these aren't "reciprocal" like he's saying. He thinks that trade deficits is just cash out there to grab.
He doesn't understand basic economics.

To be fair he CHOSE to bankrupt the Casino because he CHOSE not to complete with MONEY LAUNDERING LAWS, because he has always been working fro Russia.
According to a dozen anti-money laundering experts, casinos often run into these problems. But getting caught with 106 violations in the casino’s opening year is an indicator of a serious problem, they said. The violations date back to a time when the Taj Mahal was the preferred gambling spot for Russian mobsters living in Brooklyn, according to federal investigators who tracked organized crime in New York City. They also occurred at a time when the Taj Mahal casino was short on cash and on the verge of bankruptcy.

Ok_Entrepreneur_5833@reddit

Both_Ad9612@reddit

It’s strange that more people don’t talk about this. If Nancy Pelosi does it in broad daylight why shouldn’t the Trump administration go to extremes of insider trading in every way they see fit? Seems the Russian connection is a convenient cover for what’s just massive financial corruption
ruat_caelum@reddit
I mean you got that sort of backward. Who was fixing egg prices democrats... or republicans. Who wouldn't implement money laundering rules in their casino.... Trump Why? Russians laundering money. Whose husband was the head of the new york stock exchange who told their constituents Covid would be fine while dumping everything and buying all the medical stocks... Republicans.
Who said, "Obama ammo shortage!" while they slowed down ammo production to inflate prices... It wasn't the democratic owned ammo factories.
You can "both sides" this if you want to keep your head in the sand but if we measure corruption it's not even close.
ruat_caelum@reddit

10% on supply side is 30% for the demand side.
ruat_caelum@reddit
Its oppertunity costs. Less steel is getting in. It can go in products A B and C. If profits on making A and B are higher than C (paint cans) Then either the profit to make C has to match A & B (e.g. cost of C goes up) or no one makes C because they get X profit from A & B and would lose money on C.
While there are 100% grifts and corruption happening, it's not simple 7th grade economics we are dealing with. Everything will go up in price because of tariffs. For legit reasons.
That_Lore_Guy@reddit
Oh I get that, but having seen the greed 1st hand working through the pandemic and “shortages” the cost of paint industry just those 4 years went up 200%. It never went down even after the shortages stopped, also companies were bragging about record profits after nearly doubling the cost of every product in a single year.
Corporate Greed is a major factor for the increases, most of the shortage costs are just gaslighting.

High population centers/cities, sure, but most places the only mom and pop shops still around are for specialty or custom goods, which isn't the focus here.

fromcj@reddit
So your argument is that places aren’t going to raise prices?
Or do you agree that things are cheaper now than they will likely be in a few weeks?
mediocre_remnants@reddit
Stores will raise prices, but they aren't going to wait until they order more inventory. Stores can adjust prices instantly now, it's not like the 1980s where they had to manually put new price tags on everything. At places like Walmart and large grocery chains, prices are set by the central office and take effect in all stores immediately.

koshida@reddit

Any homesteading books you recommend?
koshida@reddit
If you want more recipe ideas and stuff those are great . On YouTube there’s some fun content producers like @blackforager and @spicymustache for tips and tricks, @paragraphic has neat mini docus on ppl doing all kinds of awesome stuff, and rn @togetherwegrow has me wanting to try aqua or hydroponics next! He’s also got great info if you live in a desert area.
semigloss6539@reddit
Awesome. Thank you!!! Will check these out. 🥰
koshida@reddit
And there’s pretty good apps out there these days to help with gardening if that’s more your thing. I use PictureThis to keep track of a lot of my plants and their care schedules (this isn’t super necessary I’m just pretty extra about it lol), but there’s some more specifically oriented to vegetable growing too.
Helicopterdrifter@reddit
AgentCarbine@reddit
How they hiked the price of literally everything and blamed it on supply issues because of “covid”. After covid got under control, prices remained the same because John consumer will still pay.
StrudelCutie1@reddit
And only possible because reserve production capacity has been destroyed by mergers. Democrats share the blame for ignoring antitrust for a generation.

I do need to replenish my soap and deodorant stockpile. I don't really brush my teeth so toothpaste isn't a big concern. 😆
Shockingelectrician@reddit

Gott_ist_tot@reddit

I'm actually pretty handsome minus the teeth. I'll be beating em off me with a stick once I get a new set of chompers. 😆
breaknomore@reddit
Even if you already have cavities and missing teeth, you should brush and floss the ones you do have!! Keep those bottom chompers working well and healthy!
If this is too personal, please ignore, but are the top ones painful? Are you able to receive dental care?
Do_The_Floof@reddit
Naaaaa I don't give a shit. They're all coming out. Top and bottom. And yeah they hurt like a mfer! 😆 But I can't afford to fix em just quite yet but I'm working on it. It's crazy........I can go get a $30k loan RIGHT NOW to buy a car but CARE CREDIT won't give me anything to fix my teeth. Lol
RedPlaidPierogies@reddit
Teeth = Luxury Bones.
Do_The_Floof@reddit
I was undisciplined with oral health. Went to prison and had a front tooth with a root canal so it was super brittle. Coward hit me on the basketball court and knocked it out. I stopped caring after that one went, the rest followed.
breaknomore@reddit
Healthcare/dental care in the US is absolutely bonkers. Maybe you should get the loan, buy something to then sell, and then use that $ for the dental 🤣
BUT bacteria from the mouth can get into the bloodstream and be bad for your whole body, so please take care of yourself! You seem to have a great attitude (and captivating eyes!) and I wish you all the best.
Do_The_Floof@reddit
Yeah my eyes are pretty cool. Like 5% of people in the world have hazel eyes.......🥰 Lol And yeah I gargle mouthwash and peroxide every now and then. Lol I should be able to get these suckers fixed in another couple years.

Headrush86@reddit
Cuban's not wrong but there's more to it than corporate greed. As the price for imported products goes up, demand for domestically produced (non-tariffed) goods will go up. This demand begins to outpace domestic supply, and prices go up on US produced items. This is not a win-win. This is a lose-lose for the consumer.
But that's that 4D chess thing and Donny is playing tiddly winks.

Literally just amounts to 10% tariffs. So realistically, some dollars and cents more per month. US is thankfully very strong consumer base so they will still spend and it’ll be fine even if the prices go up so it’s like a higher tax for us. That’s still going to be a good thing for us.
