Sheppard Air Not Working For Me I Score %65-%70.

I bought Sheppard air for my instrument and grinded it and followed there guide to the letter. So I took my first practice test and scored %70.... fast forward I follow what they say to do and I am only getting %65 most times. I don't know what to do everyone says shepherd air is the best and gets 95-100% but I can't even get over %80. At this point I'm so fed up I'd take a pass on the stupid written. Any advice?

Shameless plug for this instrument airplane study guide. Helps illustrate some of the questions from the IR written

Thanks

RTFQ.
Change your study habits. Have you done any schooling outside of high school? Are you going to make this a career?
Practical_Company537@reddit (OP)
Yeah I will fly for airlines long term. My dad works for Delta so he has told me some ways to get favored into an airline
CannonAFB_unofficial@reddit
Man if you’re struggling this hard with IR and the answers are spoon fed to you than you need to dig deep about if this is the career for you.

My PPL was so easy. But I think it’s cause I did sportys first and learned Vrs crammed answers into my head. I’ve spent to much money and already have 2 ratings there’s no turning back💀 Plus I have no friends or a relationship so flying is what I really am passionate about lol. I would be fine at the airlines or cargo flying overseas since I don’t have any reason to stay at my base and wouldn’t mind working more days on.

Were you any good at regular school ? Any learning challenges?
Practical_Company537@reddit (OP)
I was more a visual learner, so I think that’s why when I did sportys for my PPL Written it was easy.

The percent sign goes after the digits.
Sheppard is not for learning. If you want to learn find a good ground school to work through. Take notes in the applicable references. Once you have a basic once-through *understanding* of the material then work on test prep.
Sheppard is for gutting out the test, not for learning.
This is particularly true for the instrument written; this stuff can kill you!
Practical_Company537@reddit (OP)
Ooooo, so screw the learning and just do the answers. My instructor said to not get sportys and just use this. But I will be flying an approach and get asked something and don’t know cause I am not learning just memorizing I think.
HungryCommittee3547@reddit
I would not use Sportys for the IR ground school. I used them for both PPL and IR because I thought PPL was great. IR was a waste, much material missing. It was exposed while going through Sheppard.
The key for me when I missed a question because I didn't understand the concept, I went and googled the "why" and learned the subject. You need to have a solid understanding of the IR concepts before you take your written.
Low_Sky_49@reddit
If you’ve been trying to learn the material using the Sheppard app, you’ve been doing it wrong. Read the instructions carefully. Follow them to the letter. Do don’t anything extra. Don’t skip anything.
Mispelled-This@reddit
Sheppard is only test prep; you should have done ground school first.
BeenThereDoneThat65@reddit
Shepherd air is for TEST PREP ONLY. it’s there to teach you how to recognize the answers.
It is NOT for learning the material.

I would call their support line and speak with the instructor they have on hand.
There is a disconnect somewhere and speaking with this instructor might overcome it.
Practical_Company537@reddit (OP)
Thank you I will do that.
jtyson1991@reddit
Are you sure you did the study steps in exactly the order they provide? Especially the last step where you mark the questions you got wrong, and repeat them? That last step was vital in getting me from 85% to 100%.
TxAggieMike@reddit
Same with me on various exams
4Sammich@reddit
Are you using it to LEARN instrument or are you following the instructions for rote memorization of the answers?
Practical_Company537@reddit (OP)
Using it to pass the written test. And I’m learning outside of shepherd air
bulldogpenguin89@reddit
You’re clearly not because anything you get wrong and don’t memorize goes back in the deck until it is. Then you take the practice test.
It’s wrote memorization. You should recognize the correct answer immediately when you see the question pop up and read it, without having to actually think aviation. If you’re actually thinking through the question you’re doing it wrong and you haven’t memorized it.

Then you’re doing it wrong….

Follow the instructions exactly.
