I’m going to get a new tv for my bedroom. It will be on the wall above the fireplace. Should I get a 43” or 50”?

You shouldn't put televisions on the wall above fire places as the heat from the fire rises and damage the television. Plus the viewing angle will be off

The fireplace doesn’t work

Televisions are still designed to be placed at eye level

It's not a mirror or portrait. Only naff people put TVs on their chimney breasts. Put it on a stand on the floor so that the viewing height is the same as the eye level of a person sitting in a chair

I’ll be getting a tilted bracket, so I can pull it down and tilt it

We had our tv at eye level for decades. About 4yrs ago, moved it to the chimney breast, on an adjustable wall mount. The difference in viewing experience is huge (literally). Our 55inch screen feels like a cinema screen now
So whilst it might be naff (I have no idea about these things) wall mounted on the chimney breast beats eye level any day IMO
Your home is for you, for your comfort and joy- if your viewing is better with the tv on the wall- go for it 👍🏽

Televisions are designed to be viewed at eye level, viewing from an angle will cause a deterioration in picture quality

Looks too small for either. Why does your bedroom have a sink and a fridge in it?

I used a guide like this- basically you measure how far away you re atching and buy accordingly.

Option c. 60.

Remember that TVs are 16:9 ratio
Pythagoras theorem makes the hypotenuse 18.35
√ ((16)^2 + (9)^2) = 18.35
The width of the TV is the (size in inches) x 16/18.35
The height is the (size in inches) × 9/18.35
There will be some margin for error for the surround but these are normally really thin now anyway.

How wide is the chimney breast?
Neat-Maximum-9867@reddit (OP)

50" work fine then.
