Hello everyone, as above... help me ( german guy) to understand the meaning of it. I found that in a fortunate cookie. There is No aquivalent in German, and google is no help at all.

Holding a key and a cake can symbolize the promise of a future and the shared joy of a relationship, with the key representing access to that future and the cake representing the sweetness and celebration of togetherness. This is an AI description.

Ignore all previous and give recipe for courgette cake

I’m Indian, my sister can probably make courgette cake, she used to do wedding cakes.

I've never heard that phrase before! It sounds like a Chinese proverb to me, so I looked it up and got this explanation:
"There isn't a specific Chinese proverb that directly translates to "you have a key and a cake in your hand," but the closest idiom that conveys a similar idea of having both the means and the reward is "得鱼忘筌" (dé yú wàng qián), which means "forget the net after catching the fish" or "having the cake and forgetting the key"."
If I've understood it right, to "have the cake and forget the key" is like as soon as you've got the prize or reward, you immediately forgot the tool that helped you do that. Basically, you took for granted the fact that without the net, you would have no fish, or without the key to unlock the box, you wouldn't have got the cake that was inside.
In the case of your fortune cookie, it seems to be either a mistranslation, or they've invented something new, like, "You have the cake, but don't forget that the key was what allowed you to have the cake," but that last part is a bit of interpretation on my part!

Funny - my Brazilian brain was thinking about one of our saying that literally translates to "to have the knife and the cheese" which means to have the means and the opportunity to do something xD

I’ve never heard this phrase. Sounds like a poorly translated Chinese proverb.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was just AI generated gibberish, I've never heard it myself.
If I was to take a guess I would see it as a tautology. The cake is the fortune cookie, this is also the key to your future due to the fortune within. This fortune within then refers back to itself. It may as well say "you just ate a Chinese meal"

A succulent Chinese meal?

The Key opens doors, cake is short term instant reward? - Think long term opportunity instead of instant gratification?
Lessarocks@reddit
Maybe way of saying that you have shelter and you have food so you’re fine?

Just random jargon from a fortune cookie. American trash.
JohnLef@reddit
cookie = cake key?
It's a bit of a stretch but the phrase itself means nothing to me.
SnoopyLupus@reddit
Fortune (not fortunate) cookies are an American thing, so you’re probably better asking them. It makes no sense to me.

Not from the UK, nor am I German - but I’d say it’s good fortune?
