Someone tell this fat fucking moron that we wanted lower taxes, free speech and legal weed, not higher taxes, thought police and illegal weed.
I swear to God this is the last time I get swindled into voting for the Republicans. If they want my vote they better enact Ranked Choice Voting, because I'd rather waste my vote on a Libertarian candidate with no chance than give it to these fucking frauds who run on one thing and then do another.
I regret voting for this idiot, and the joke is on me because he's the one getting rich while I'm getting taxed out of fucking house and home.
Pepston@reddit
I don't understand how you didn't see this coming when you voted for him. Yes he's an idiot, but you're an even bigger one.
nuclearknees@reddit
We'll be back here next election so you can claim this.
Exciting-Insect-8813@reddit
This. Plus I was also naive enough to believe he would work to end the Israeli offensive and negotiate a peace.

What gave you that impression?

How do y'all feel about these new tax increases?
Even if Libertarians were never aligned with Conservatives on social issues in the past, there used to be common ground on taxes and spending. Today I'm not any overlap between Libertarianism and Conservatism anymore, and the Republicans seem more than happy to raises tax by 10-60%.
konsyr@reddit
Away, very away. It's pretty sad when Ds are closer to L than Rs. (And that's been true since Trump became a national political figure... I was truly baffled last year with the LINOs who voted for him.)
UndercoverProstitute@reddit
Yes, a person who is pro-second amendment, pro-borders, pro-America, Pro-first amendment, pro-small government, pro-state over federal… I mean I can keep going. Why the fuck would a libertarian not vote for that?
Clearly you are just a democrat parading as a libertarian. Nothing about what that crazy Warhawk and pro-tampon in men’s bathroom couple would even classify as Libertarian in the slightest.
konsyr@reddit
Trump's administration doesn't care about 2A whatsoever. Has regularly been trampling the 1A more than ever. Has done nothing but increase government power, not make it smaller. Keeps making federal actions to hamstring state decisions...
I am completely dumbfounded where you're getting any of that which you said.
UndercoverProstitute@reddit
That’s just not at all accurate. Under Trump, the administration took steps to protect Second Amendment rights, including appointing pro-2A judges and reversing Obama-era regulations like the Social Security gun rule. While the bump stock ban was controversial, it was a narrow action following a major mass shooting, not a sweeping anti-2A policy. As for the First Amendment, Trump was frequently criticized for rhetoric, but there were no widespread legal actions to curb free speech or press. Regarding government size, he cut federal regulations at a historic rate and reduced taxes. On state decisions, his administration largely supported federalism—especially in handling COVID-19 responses. Foreign policy-wise, Trump was the first president in decades not to start a new war, prioritized troop withdrawals, and pushed for NATO allies to step up their defense spending. As for national security, he enacted significant reforms like the Abraham Accords and increased border security. The narrative you’ve described doesn’t match the actual record.
konsyr@reddit
You're apparently a lost cause.
He's having people arrested for things written in newspapers.
There has not been any cut to federal regulations. (He's actually increased executive fiat power.)
He just announced the largest tax increase in the history of the country. (Certainly not a cut).
On States, he is acting aggressively against any state or smaller entity that tries to exercise its own decision powers if they happen to be contrary to his personal thoughts.
I could go on with the rest you wrote, but I don't want to have to expose my brain to increasing levels of whatever toxins you're putting out to get things that wrong.
UndercoverProstitute@reddit
It’s fair to criticize any administration, but it’s important to stay grounded in reality. The claim that Trump had people arrested over newspaper articles is false—no journalists were jailed for what they wrote. He had a hostile relationship with the press, yes, but that’s not the same as violating the First Amendment.
Ironically, the Biden administration faced similar criticism for press freedom when the DOJ seized phone records from journalists during investigations into leaks. As for regulations, Trump’s Executive Order 13771 did reduce red tape, requiring two regulations be cut for every one added. While the impact was debated, it was a significant shift toward deregulation. Meanwhile, under Biden, regulation has expanded again, especially in energy and healthcare.
Regarding taxes, Trump passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in 2017—the largest overhaul in decades—cutting corporate tax rates from 35% to 21% and reducing rates for many individuals. The claim he just announced the largest tax increase is mistaken; Trump has actually proposed further tax cuts in his current campaign.
On states’ rights, it’s true Trump clashed with blue states, but he also let governors handle COVID-19 restrictions independently. Biden has similarly used federal power against states—such as suing over abortion bans or threatening funding over school policies—so neither party is immune to federal overreach. In short, all administrations have contradictions, but blanket statements rarely tell the full story.
konsyr@reddit
Please do try to begin existing in this reality. (I'm done with engaging with you.)
UndercoverProstitute@reddit
Where is your proof? I have actually provided real objective truth. You have done nothing but open your fucking mouth and breathe your democrat media lies on here. Please provide any ounce of objective reality.
Dreadnaught-Fluffy@reddit
Wow is all that part of being a libertarian? Being anti tampons in men’s rooms? This shouldn’t be a government issue.
I can not vote for that easily. It’s cause it was all lies and propaganda they sold gullible voters.
What we’re learning now is the opposite is true of most those claims. He’s not pro 1st amendment, and 2nd def not pro states over federal.
Sounds like you’re a republican parading as a libertarian…. Take your republican cool axe back to maga
Interesting-Act-8282@reddit
The second term is shaping up to be a bit different
Anatares2000@reddit
Ah yes.
Pro borders is a libertarian tenet. Not everything libertarian agrees with that.
UndercoverProstitute@reddit
Well not every libertarian is required to think the same way. People can downvote me all they want, but ensuring the safety of your own citizens and not allowing whoever to pour in and take over, is certainly not a great thing. If you think that, then I wouldn’t want you on my side, personally. You are entitled to your opinion, but I would rather my country not become the EU… sorry I mean the new Islamic states of Europe.
TK-369@reddit
How is Trump pro-first amendment, pro small government, and pro-State over federal?
Please, quit drinking as soon as possible. I know it's hard, friend, but it makes it more difficult for you to process this information.
Clearly, you're just an apolitical contrarian who denies observable reality rather than a libertarian.
Trump is anti-first amendment, anti-small government, and anti-State over federal. His words don't match his actions in this regard. Please search ANY source of your choosing; for example check out Trump's history of strong-arming states to change their laws, and observe that government grew while Trump was in office, etc.
I won't bother supporting my position with links, as I don't believe you'd be able to accurately assess anything I provided (due to the alcoholism)
I was a Libertarian treasurer, precinct committee officer, collected thousands of signatures, and ran for office under their ticket. How about you?
UndercoverProstitute@reddit
That’s a lot of assumptions and personal attacks, so let’s stick to facts instead of credentials or insults. On the First Amendment, Trump didn’t sign legislation restricting speech, religion, or press. Criticizing the media isn’t the same as dismantling the First Amendment—something many presidents have done rhetorically without legal consequence. Regarding small government, while spending rose under Trump—especially due to bipartisan COVID relief—he also implemented the largest tax cuts in decades and slashed thousands of federal regulations, including via executive orders like requiring two regulations removed for every new one added. On state vs. federal power, his administration allowed states to set their own COVID policies (even when he disagreed), pushed for school choice, and opposed federal overreach on environmental and education policies. Like most presidents, Trump was inconsistent at times—but the claim that he was blatantly anti-First Amendment, anti-small government, and anti-states’ rights doesn’t fully reflect the record.
Also, I don’t drink or do drugs. I guess that doesn’t qualify me as a libertarian in your drug-induced world view.
Yodzilla@reddit
Would you be shocked to learn that here in South Carolina most people are also about to be hit by a tax hike? https://www.thestate.com/news/politics-government/article303215416.html
But it lowers taxes for the wealthy so that’s good right
DonutsMcKenzie@reddit (OP)
At this point I'm not shocked by anything. I expect the worst.
Gobiego@reddit
I think Canada has just caved announcing removal of their US tariffs, I suspect our Canadian tariffs are about to go away as well.
chrisofchris@reddit
Didn’t he come and speak at the Libertarian National Convention?
Ooof…
Sassy_Sausages22@reddit
I dont think a republican is ever going to get the libertarian vote again
p4rc0pr3s1s@reddit
Yea what a joke. Just scrounging for votes.
sigh_duck@reddit
Dude's been talking Tariffs since the 80's so not sure how this comes as a surprise for anyone.
globalistkushnerd@reddit
Dude never stops fucking talking and he didn't do this the first time...
This is among the largest tax increases ever, and he didn't run on that. I wouldn't have given him my vote if he did.
p4rc0pr3s1s@reddit
See Canadian lumber in 2017.
elgrito1810@reddit
And what would your solution be? This is temporary and other countries have folded with the other tariffs. I would bet others will fold too. We are the largest consumers. If we dont buy they go bust.
TheCivilEngineer@reddit
Are these really reciprocal?
DonutsMcKenzie@reddit (OP)
Only if words have no meaning. Welcome to 1984.
Fieos@reddit
Be cool if Federal income tax was dismissed as part of this effort. Moving towards a consumption based tax is more fitting Libertarians if taxation has to exist.
wkwork@reddit
Yeah how long do you think it will take states to increase their income taxes to suck up the difference? They're never going to let you actually pay less.
globalistkushnerd@reddit
I guess it's cool if you don't believe in a free market. 🫠
technocraticnihilist@reddit
Madness
chmendez@reddit
Insane. Even the baseline tariff, too high.
globalistkushnerd@reddit
Call me a crazy old-school free-market Libertarian, but the baseline tariff should be fucking 0%.
Now I can somewhat understand creating specific tariffs on rare occasions targeting specific products and sectors, but a global baseline tarifff on everything from everywhere?
That's a >=10% SALES TAX on all imports. A tax that we are going to pay. So much for the fucking "tea party".
