Germany is deploying troops to another country on a long-term basis for the first time since World War II - It's putting thousands of soldiers in Lithuania, a NATO member that borders Russia.

As a German I'm kinda puzzled by this superlative statement trying to evoke WWII, even when it's based on a completely wrong premise.
The Bundeswehr has been deployed to Kosovo since 1999, that's by now 26 years.
The Bundeswehr was also deployed in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021, that was 21 years.
Since 2006 the Bundeswehr has also been deployed to Iraq, for the past 19 years.
I'm pretty sure being deployed close to two decades, in another countery, counts as rather long term deyploment? Or how "long" does the deployment need to be to be considered "long term"?
But sticking with such basic facts might remind people that Germany was even along for the ride of invading Iraq, while publicly lying about opposing that war and getting insulted out of the White House for that fake opposition.
Tho, I guess one shouldn't expect much from Yahoo reposting what Business Insider reposted about an Associated Press article, like a Human Centipede of "news" content.
