Would you drive US-220 or US-29 to get from Greensboro North to I-81?

Driving a tanker along US-220 was slow, averaging 45 MPH for the curves and hills. Was thinking of taking US-29 next time.

I like going through Danville

29 looks like a shorter distance and time... Why are you ddbating going the other way?

On 220 for a shorter period before 81, plus plenty of people have recommended it for various reasons above. Going to try 29 next time and see how i like both personally.

Still a lot of up and down hills and curves on 20”9 ….
Lotta times the State Troopers hang out on 29 so be careful. Usually only see a Sheriff or two on 220
Defiant_Network_3069@reddit
Troopers like to hang out on 29 just north of 460. Been pulled over there several times at that spot.

Amherst county loves pulling people over for dumb shit. I avoid them all the time
PomeloResponsible122@reddit
220 all day
Prankishmanx21@reddit
220 over 29 any day. 29 feels like it goes on forever.
MRUNIKORN123@reddit

29 to Charlottesville ain't bad. Don't think I've driven 220. Or at least not often enough to remember it.
Feeling-Bowl-9533@reddit
220 is awesome
smiley82m@reddit
Yes. It's a good route.
Bo1622@reddit
220.
qaf0v4vc0lj6@reddit
I used to take 220 once a week.

I don't think one is better than the other, to be honest. But, I grew up in WV and learned how to drive on coal roads. I don't think either are particularly bad routes.
foodinpockets@reddit (OP)
Funny thing is I’d love to drive all those curves in a car, but not a tanker.
CakewalkNOLA@reddit
Yeah. I somehow missed the tanker part. In that case, 220.
Ok_Inspection_3928@reddit
29 has hills and sharp curves also.
foodinpockets@reddit (OP)
Only other alternative I saw heading Northeast would be to take I-40 over to I-95, but then you get DC and Baltimore traffic and I’ll drive 220 again before I do that (unless it’s the middle of the night).
I figure I’ll try US-29 and see if it’s a little better than 220.
Ok_Inspection_3928@reddit
Go 40 to 85 to 95 if you're trying to get to the DC area. Travel at night if possible. If you are going to Pennsylvania, then you could take 29 to 64 back to 81 if you wanna avoid 220. It's probably gonna take the same amount of time. 29 also meets with 66, which goes to DC and back to 81, which goes to Pennsylvania.
foodinpockets@reddit (OP)
Ultimately Massachusetts. Yep, I’ll try out 29 to 64 to 81. DC and Baltimore always has accidents, construction, and traffic that adds real hours to the estimate.
nastyzoot@reddit
220 all day.
Justwanttosellmynips@reddit
Hey I do these all the time!!! (They suck) go 220.
AceDuce23@reddit
29 north isn't bad at all. Just take 64 east to 81 because after Charlottesville it gets pretty bad for a truck especially if you're loaded.
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit
Never done the 29 but I've done the 220, it wasn't a fun drive loaded but it is truck route.
Witty-Time4679@reddit
220 is is more and less traffic lights
EfficiencyNew9866@reddit
Both routes suck , I’ve used 220 more though
