Petro in Richmond Indiana will soon be the next victim of paid parking. One of my favorite places to stop smh. Store employee says TA is tired of cleaning trash. She also said she thinks pilot and loves might join TA with paid only parking. What will yall do if this happens? Quit OTR?
FriendNeeded31@reddit
Paid or not trash will still be on the floor or at the back, I don’t think you can stop that with just a paywall
SawGoodMang@reddit
What does this mean?
Ok_Inspection_3928@reddit (OP)
Did you read what I wrote?
SawGoodMang@reddit
Yes. As In what am I looking at here?
Ok_Inspection_3928@reddit (OP)
The almost completed gates for a paid only lot.
jmzstl@reddit
It means that their entire parking lot will be paid parking only, and they're building toll booths at the entrance to enforce it.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
What it ultimately means is stop going to those places that do that. Let them shut down.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
If the company doesn't pay for the parking and expects me to pay out of my pocket, I'll leave that company ASAP. But if I'm an o/o I'll find free parking somewhere and attempt to get fuel anywhere but places that are paid only parking. F em

I am in favor of paid/reserved parking, because I know how to trip-plan. I look at my HOS, and I see that I will need parking in "X-town", and I use it like reserving a hotel room.
This will be a good learning curve for those drivers that don't plan ahead. Maybe this will help to weed out the drivers who don't think any further ahead than their steering wheel.
Naborsx21@reddit
I'll plan for a drink driver colliding with a school bus and having a 7 hour delay. Or a tornado watch, or a flat, or insert x thing Plus who tf pays lol.
I'll never pay out of principle because I need my lot lizards happy.
Ok_Inspection_3928@reddit (OP)
So are you saying you'd pay for parking everyday? I assume you must be an owner operator who can write expenses off. Company guys like me can't do that. Also, trip planning is a convenient copout. I plan just as well as you, im sure, and sometimes your load takes you to a park of the country that doesn't have good truck parking. Not everything comes down to planning. It's super annoying when people say that.

I'm a company driver, and my company pays a per diem. I use that per diem to maintain a semi-comfortable lifestyle. That includes not stressing out at the end of the day, about where I might park. I knew where I was parking since hours ago.
Ok_Inspection_3928@reddit (OP)
If yours pays the same way mine does then it comes from pretax income. So it's still your money. I'm not paying to park someone elses shit.
halfcow@reddit
You're a human being. I'm also not paying to park *their" truck. I'm paying for a comfortable, safe spot to sleep, without the stress at the end of my workday.
Tell me, when you go on vacation and reserve a hotel room.... Do you say, "I'm not paying my money just to have somewhere to park my car."
Also, this bit about trip-planning is a copout? I know you see the drivers parked on the ramps (and literally the side of the interstate). You can't bullshit me. I know the value of having a guaranteed parking spot, which allows me to max out my clock.
See, that's what y'all are not taking into consideration. If I can maximize my drive clock, then I'll make more money. That means the $20 parking fee is inconsequential. It literally means nothing.
Ok_Inspection_3928@reddit (OP)
That is a horrible analogy. My car is my property. The truck is not my property. If I were an owner operator, I wouldn't care as much. Also, the dudes that are on the ramps... sometimes, park there by choice. I've seen Truck stops with spots all over the yard, and dudes will still be on the on ramps. The best way I get my guaranteed parking spot is to run nights a few times a week if I'm in the northeast. Let me ask you this. ....Do you tell your company you can't deliver the load because you won't have a parking spot? Cause I had a choice between that one time. I had a drop load in Chicago, where I knew I wouldn't have a spot. I decided to make the delivery anyway. I still found somewhere, but I got lucky.
halfcow@reddit
No. I've never missed an appointment, except for a breakdown or road closure. I'm trying to tell you that my way is a lot more peaceful and dependable.
To be fair, we do have a lot of customers who allow parking on-site. So, it's not as though I pay for parking every night. But I'm not into this "creative parking" BS, as my Plan A.
Ok_Inspection_3928@reddit (OP)
I agree that it's convenient. But keep in mind that some places don't even enforce the reserve parking. You can pay and still end up with no spot. Mostly happens with pilot, tho. I've heard stories about them.
xDoomKitty@reddit
Loves ain't ever doing paid parking I don't think
Dual-use@reddit
If I have to pay for parking I'm not coming, simple as.
vfittipaldi@reddit
Most of them are doing it including the one in Portland, soon all truck stops will be paid. Loves too im sure
Ok_Inspection_3928@reddit (OP)
Companies can either pay or watch guys quit.
JOliverScott@reddit
I would be surprised a Love's would start paid parking but I'm not surprised a Petro would start paid parking.
Ok_Inspection_3928@reddit (OP)
I feel like as long as free parking exists somewhere, companies are gonna try and push this onto the drivers.
Incarsus@reddit
Petro/TA were bought by BP for several billion dollars a couple years ago. They announced almost immediately that all their parking would be payed parking as a way of recouping their investment. They also plan to do away with the driver points/membership card (stated in the same press release).
Loves has started numbering their spots in all their locations, so payed parking their wouldn't surprise me either.
