What is the term for discrimination between people of different nations?

As opposed to discrimination against other races, which is racism, I’m trying to be correct in my future endeavors.
farquaad_thelord@reddit
It’s literally racism, racism is the discrimination of other races and or ethnicities
Embarrassed_Fennel_1@reddit
Yea but what if you hate a Hungarian from Romania because he’s from Romania?

Antiromanian

No because you can be the same race as the person but hate their country of origin. Others have said, but the correct term for that is "xenophobia".
farquaad_thelord@reddit
xenophobia is just the hate of foreigners
Putrid_Director_4905@reddit
There can be people from many ethnicities from a single nation.

I use racism as an umbrella term that isn't limited to race. I'm aware that there are no "races" but that's the word I grew up using to describe hatred towards specific groups of people and by now I'm too old to change it even if it's wrong.

Oh boy!
Gvozdeni-@reddit
Xenophobia. Essentially, it’s a term used to desribe the fear of foreigners, which is the result of hate towards them.
Putrid_Director_4905@reddit
Don't downvote me, but is the hate necessarily the case? You can hate someone without fearing them and you can't fear someone without hating them, right?
throw__away3_@reddit
Suffixes (in English language) can have multiple meanings. The suffix phobia can mean either hate or fear. In this case it's hate.
Putrid_Director_4905@reddit
But you said
You are saying that xenophobia is the emotion of fear that comes from hate. But why does this fear have to come from hate?
I think that word should either mean "irrational fear of foreigners" or "irrational hate of foreigners". Both of those combined doesn't make sense to me. It at least makes it so the definition varies from one xenophobe to another.
Google (Oxford Dictionaries) says that it is
which neither requires fear nor hate.
throw__away3_@reddit
I did not say that. I am a different person also responding to you
Putrid_Director_4905@reddit
Oh, my bad.
Zekieb@reddit
A Phobia can also beget reactions of disgust, aversion or dislike. Although the etymology from the Greek φόβος literally means fear, its meaning has been expanded. Partly due to its use in psychology.
Kitsooos@reddit
Oh god thank you so much. Glory to Skypteria and all (I don't know how it's spelled).
Every time I hear a foreigner say "I am not SCARED of X" it drives me insane.
And then, to top it off, they try to make some retarded etymological analysis of the word "φοβία", which of course they fail miserably.
IT DOESN'T EXCLUSIVELY MEAN FEAR.
Zekieb@reddit
It helps that I'am trying to learn Greek, taught me a lot about multiple meanings 😅
But yeah I do understand the frustration, sometimes people can be very "monotone" in their understanding. It makes it difficult to convey concepts that are not straightforward.
But as the phrase goes; Η υπομονή είναι μια αρετή
Cristi-DCI@reddit
Xenophobia. Or ultra-nationalism ?

HumanMan00@reddit
Isnt that just Nationalism?
My Nation is best and f all logic and whoever isnt my nationality can go to hell.. nationalists also tend to be ashamed of any genetic or cultural connection they have if it goes from another nation or ethnicity to theirs.
Glittering-Dig-3559@reddit
I think it would still be racism because they consider each other different “races.” It’s a subjective term, no?
blackrain1709@reddit
Everyone calls it racism. I hate it but it became to mean that
