Fan control for laptop on Linux
Posted by half-gamer@reddit | linux | View on Reddit | 6 comments

Hi, is there any fan speed control for my laptop?
I use Linux Mint and my laptop is MSI
I tried out 2 but none showed the fan. (CollerControl | fan-control)
Anyone knows a solution?

Hey, sometimes the manufacturer disables fan control from the BIOS, making it hard or even impossible to manage them without the official app or drivers. And since most gaming laptops are designed with Windows in mind, Linux support is often not taken into consideration. One possible solution is to create a custom program or use an open-source tool (like msi-ec) to communicate directly with the hardware and control the fans, but Iām not sure if it will work right away (And do it with precautions!).
