If you were to move away from your current city or area, what are three food or drink places you would make sure to go to if you were to revisit the city?

As in, places you know you would miss if you were to move away.

A particular Italian restaurant that was near my home. Their pizza was fine, but their other Italian dishes were particularly delicious.
Also, a particular Szechuan Chinese restaurant a couple towns from my house. They made a delicious Mala Xiang Guo that I desperately miss.
Derplord4000@reddit
Really just In N Out, all the other chains I frequent are nation wide.
switchbreed@reddit
Not sure food wise. Sad to say I don't think Maine is super unique other than maybe sea food? And we have a pretty dope banh mi place here but I'm sure that can be found elsewhere as well? As far as drinks goes Maine has some incredible small breweries I'd miss like mast landing and Allagash
Anustart15@reddit
Would kinda depend on where I went, but I'd imagine top of the list would be a good lobster roll and then potentially oysters or pizza and definitely wings from the pub around the corner from my house. Also, maybe a good Italian sub, I feel like those can be hard to come by in some parts of the country.

My three would be:

The neighborhood should have Korean, Japanese, and Spanish food options within walking or biking distance from my home. I figure that if an area has those, it’s likely to have a diverse range of other cuisines as well.
CountChoculasGhost@reddit
I’ve lived in Chicago for less than 2 years, but I’ve really grown to love a good Italian beef.
Bonus points for giardiniera in general
The_Car_in_the_bar@reddit
Whenever I’m back in Illinois I go to my local pizza joint, a Johnnie’s Beef, and Gene and Jude’s.

Mine is Rocky Rococco! My sister in law always wants to eat there when she comes back to visit from Denver.
Sorry-Government920@reddit
I have friend who lives in Colorado he comes home every summer for a few weeks it the 1st place he goes
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Oh yeah. I miss Bazbeux Pizza in Indy, Mesh, Yats, and King Ribs (they aren’t the absolute best ribs but my friend’s dad used to own it so it has a lot of nostalgia).
Purplehopflower@reddit
I still miss Bazbeaux sometimes.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
And I knew them way back in their first location. It’s one of my go to places any time I visit my fam.
Purplehopflower@reddit
Yes! The old B- Rip location where you thought it might fall down if you leaned on the wall, and were concerned about getting stuck in the bathroom because you could barely move in there 😂.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
That’s the one! Ha.
Purplehopflower@reddit
Somehow the pizza tasted even better. (Not that it’s bad now.)
CupBeEmpty@reddit
I think their crust used to be crispier but that could just be me not being around for a while.
Purplehopflower@reddit
I do think it was. It was almost a cracker crust, but not quite.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Yeah not a cracker crust but crispier than the last couple times I had it. More like a New Haven style.
Purplehopflower@reddit
I haven’t been for quite some time. I’m going back in a few weeks and will have to try to go.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
There or Puccini’s.
Purplehopflower@reddit
Seriously, Indy has some great pizza. Puccini’s, Some Guys, Pizzology, Napolese, some would say Jockomo’s, but I only went there once or twice.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Never been to Pizzology or Napolese.
There’s so many new restaurants since I moved away I can never keep track. My sister and her husband are a bit of foodies (he’s a chef) and they’ll constantly be like “oh it’s right across from [restaurant or store I didn’t know exists].
Purplehopflower@reddit
That’s true. Pizzology is only in Carmel now. There was a Mass Ave location, but it closed. Napolese is owned by Patachou group, which can be controversial.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Which I found funny. I heard there’s some complaints about them but when they first opened people were absolutely floored it was packed all the time at the original Patachou.
Purplehopflower@reddit
The first Patachou was so great! I think a lot of people think they are over priced, and there are a decent amount of people who just don’t like Martha Hoover.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Yeah I think she was the one that also owned Hoaglin’s to Go right? Great food but I heard she wasn’t great to work for if I have my Indy lore right? Either way whoever owned Hoaglin’s was apparently not fun to work for.
Purplehopflower@reddit
Maybe, but I don’t remember. Patachou, Petite Chou, Napolese, Strange Bird, and Public Greens are the ones I remember.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Yeah and Hoaglin’s closed up shop a lot of years ago. I do like going home just to find out what’s new and with sister’s boyfriend being exec chef at a really nice place he always knows what is good.
AnchoviePopcorn@reddit
Bazbeuxs!

Nirchis, lupo's and Roma's
Pizza, Spiedes and Chicken.
Narrow_Tennis_2803@reddit
A meat and three restaurant (look them up...there are only maybe 5 left). Wendell Smith's or Arnold's.
One of the Kurdish restaurants and bakeries, probably Edessa and Newroz.
And then Smith and Lentz brewery for a pizza even though in the future it will probably be close to $50.
cohrt@reddit
Just the local pizza place.
guywithshades85@reddit
A place with a decent garbage plate, a pizza place with huge slices and someplace that serves beef on weck.
Maquina-25@reddit
Laredo taqueria for the breakfast tacos. Good picadillo, good nopal, good fajita, tastes like home. Once saw a guy skipping on house arrest in line there and I get it.
Crawfish and noodles. They tell it like it is in the name.
Blood brothers bbq, three Vietnamese dudes from an immigrant suburb mixing Texas cue with Asian and Mexican food
trailquail@reddit
That’s gotta be Houston. I haven’t lived there in decades but I still remember all my favs. I’ve never eaten so much restaurant food in my entire life as when I lived there.
AMA454@reddit
I moved from Austin to London and when I go back I have to have Via313, Fonda San Miguel, and Tacos Juanita. And for drinks it’s just Pinthouse all the way.
mmlickme@reddit
Austin for me is Whataburger, Juan in a Million, Magnolia’s Cafe.
LoveSaidNo@reddit
Omg, yes to donut shop kolaches. So good. One time a family member from the northeast gave us a gift card to a national donut chain. I didn’t even know where one was because we never stray from the local Asian family donut places.
GOTaSMALL1@reddit
None where I live now. But when I'm back in San Diego I go to any ____berto's as much as possible.
lechydda@reddit
I was just about to say … nowhere in NH, but I absolutely always go to a ‘bertos in San Diego as soon as I land there for a visit 😂

Viet-Cajun crawfish and their house special fried rice from Ocean to Crawfish.
Machacado with beans, salad, and the spicy green sauce. It's a dried shredded beef cooked with eggs, usually eaten for breakfast. Taqueria Arandas.
The Vodka Lemonade from the now closed Black Labrador Pub where I got married.
An honorary mention: Abita-Rita from BB's. Their Strawberry lager is amazing.

Monster Vegan.
Dirty Frank's.
That one Chinese food place by my old apartment that I don't know the real name of but slaps hard.
I have a friend that moved out of Philly not long ago and when he comes to visit, he actually does stuff like this. One of the places he likes to hit is a BBQ joint near my house if possible. I think I'd miss that place, too, if I couldn't get good jerk salmon somewhere else.
JumpintheFiah@reddit
Pike Place Market for the variety of great eats. Then probably Mr. Gyro. Finally, I'd have to have Seattle Teriyaki, preferably in the U District.
unclestinky3921@reddit
Dick's Drive-In, Ivars and some random Teriyaki shop in a strip mall.
4x4Lyfe@reddit
Stop 1 would be for culichis
Stop 2 would be for birria
Stop 3 would probably have to be In n Out if I moved somewhere without it
PacSan300@reddit (OP)
I definitely miss it. In fact, Mexican food has replaced In-N-Out as the first thing I go for whenever I return to California.
Angsty_Potatos@reddit

After I immigrated to Germany, I started missing Nashville Hot Chicken, even insofar and attempting to make it myself. I bought what was labeled as cayenne pepper. I believe it was 99.9% paprika, and a whiff of cayenne. It’s either that or they haven’t a clue what a cayenne pepper is. My chicken was ruined, it just tasted like a powdered bell pepper.
It should be noted that I’m not from Tennessee, so everything I’ve tried so far is Nashville “style” hot chicken. It’s probably not the same but still delicious.
holiestcannoly@reddit
I’ve moved away from my home city. I always go to Jimmy Z’s Pizza, the Carriage Inn, and Pamela’s (I’m from Pittsburgh)
RogueCoon@reddit
There's only one bar as far as food and drinks go, so there.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Oh yeah. I miss Bazbeux Pizza in Indy, Mesh, Yats, and King Ribs (they aren’t the absolute best ribs but my friend’s dad used to own it so it has a lot of nostalgia).
