What are your thoughts about this worst song of the 80’s list? Would you bump any song? What song would you add?

safety dance owns the #1 spot. total crap.
Der_fluter_mouse@reddit
I think the worst songs from the 80s were intentionally forgotten- never to be heard from again..
...and they should stay that way.
Minnow125@reddit
Taylor Dayne. Tell it to my heart. Or anything from Tiffany/Debbie Gibson
HistorianLiving@reddit
Millie Vannelli was horrible- Paula Abdul -same
truthcopy@reddit
Elitist crap that makes me feel like I’m in high school again being judged for songs I actually enjoyed - and might still enjoy, if I’m being honest.
BlueSnaggleTooth359@reddit
I kinda thought Gen X was before this kind of hater shit, gotta hate everything, mock everything, sneer at everything, try to take down every movie, every show, every star, every song shit.
AMGRN@reddit
I’m still mystified how the woman who sang White Rabbit also gave us the shitfest of We Built This City.
BlueSnaggleTooth359@reddit
Awesome song.
profjamie4102005@reddit
Exactly this.
ero_skywalker@reddit
I like “We Built This City” and I’m OK saying it.
deadbeef4@reddit
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
PutridWorth938@reddit
I was watching Daredevil born again, and I was thinking how wonderful of a torture it was for kingpin to have to sit thru that on a children's choir and then again in Latvian..
Vespertinelove@reddit (OP)
That’s the only song on the list that I truly dislike and always have.
AMGRN@reddit
I just cannot hate on Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now bc I love the movie Mannequin and Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall so much and I won’t hear it lol 😀😆
BlueSnaggleTooth359@reddit
Eh I'm not a fan of the whole gotta hate everything shit and focus on the negative all the time. I thought X was a generation before that became cool.
Some of the songs on the list are bangers and only Amadeus ever annoyed me.
MyriVerse2@reddit
Worst lists are always wrong. It's a bottomless abyss that no one can fathom.
casade7gatos@reddit
I have a theory that one way to make a bad song is to have it be a tick away from being a novelty song. Like it’s campy, funny, but doesn’t commit to the bit? So “Safety Dance” is kind of that, “Mickey,” too. “Puttin’ on the Ritz” is unasked-for non-nostalgia. I would take Wham! off the list because l like it and adore George Michael. I’d add “Down Under” by Men at Work.
Overplaying is the way to make me hate something, so if I wanted a fight I’d talk about Thriller more than I already have in the past.
profjamie4102005@reddit
I soured on The Police after “Every Breath You Take.” Forty years after the song’s release, it’s still overplayed.
casade7gatos@reddit
People playing it at weddings shows how little attention people pay to lyrics.
UpstairsCommittee894@reddit
How can you have a worst of the 80s list and not have Eddie Murphy, Don Johnson, and Milli Vanilli? I'll taky micky, puttin on the ritz, and safety dance any day over those three I listed.
casade7gatos@reddit
Because those songs have faded into obscurity, would be my guess. I may not have heard Don Johnson since 1986.
UpstairsCommittee894@reddit
Eddie murphy- Party all the time 123million youtube views.
Don Johnson - Heartbeat 6.6million youtube views
Milli Vanilli between all their songs have over 1 billion views
Someone still remembers those duds.
casade7gatos@reddit
Oof.
Fluffy-Match9676@reddit
For those like me who just want the list without watching the video:
Once again, another stupid list made to insult a generation.
Although over the past decade, I will agree with #1.
PutridWorth938@reddit
You missed "I wanna be a cowboy".. If gladly trade out Mickey or safety dance for that one.
Oh, and jungle love
horsenbuggy@reddit
You have terrible taste in music. You probably like Bon Jovi.
SometimesUnkind@reddit
Agreed. We all know the worst song of the 80s was Get Out Of My Dreams and In To My Car
Second only to Dancing On The Ceiling.
wakattawakaranai@reddit
thank you and also fuck this youtuber, 8 of those 10 are in my all time faves list.
Safety Dance and Rock Me Amadeus are top 5 easily.
apple_pi_chart@reddit
#10 is so campy you have to love it now.
#9,#7,#6,#4,#2 are all terrible
GiantMags@reddit
She Drives Me Crazy by Fine Young Cannabis was so overplayed and still is overplayed. It was and is sooooo bad.
Significant_Ruin4870@reddit
I loathe Final Countdown so won't argue with that one. But Men without Hats? A travesty. Still love that song.
I will say the list should include everything released by Foreigner.
Glittering_Estate_72@reddit
When it showed up on the Geico commercial I thought it had finally found it's perfect home.
purl2together@reddit
If I never hear “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” ever again, I’ll be happy. But you’ll pry “Safety Dance” from the iPhone in my cold, dead hand.
SometimesUnkind@reddit
They begin their list by dissing Rick Astley,Taco, and Toni Basil?
Go to hell. I don’t even need to see the rest of the list.
TheGargageMan@reddit
In a decade that gave us Paula Abdul, how can they be upset about Toni Basil.
chillinwithabeer29@reddit
Agree 1,000% with #1. A total abomination which is a living hell to hear
TheGargageMan@reddit
terrible list. Many of those are good songs, and even the bad ones aren't the worst of the era.
Just look at the number ones from 1989 to see many worse hits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_Hot_100_number-one_singles_of_the_1980s
Sea-Morning-772@reddit
I don't care what you say. You're never gonna convince me that The Safety Dance is a good song and should not be on that list.
TheGargageMan@reddit
Well you're no friend of mine.
UpstairsCommittee894@reddit
I was thinking the same thing. Most of those songs radiate 80's. I have a hatred of wham, because my sister loved them and george michael, so I endured thousands of hours of hearing them. Still for the 80's it's nowhere near the worst.
Reign_n_blud@reddit
For me Mickey is the only one I don’t care to hear, it really was and is overplayed.
EnricoMatassaEsq@reddit
I don't think these are the worst songs, I mean the were all yuuuge hits. Maybe they're the ones that make us cringe the hardest at ourselves or make us wonder what the hell we were thinking but there was plenty of terrible music in the 80s that justifiably never caught fire.
Vespertinelove@reddit (OP)
I was surprised to see The Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh listed.
PutridWorth938@reddit
I'm not... I've found that to be one of the worst songs I've ever heard... I didn't understand it's popularity back in the day and still don't. But hey, different strokes for watchutalkinbout willis

Yacht Rock wouldn't exist without his genius.
apple_pi_chart@reddit
Yacht Rock shouldn't exist
lovepony0201@reddit
Who hurt you?
catvaq02@reddit
I find most of them bearable. I don't think they are the worse of 1980.
punkdrummer22@reddit
While these are not the worst songs of the 80s, none of them are going on my Spotify playlist
Keepeating71@reddit
A ha take on me
apple_pi_chart@reddit
I love that video

**accidentally posted as I was trying to add this list and can’t edit post. So here it is.
airckarc@reddit
The worst songs of the 80s aren’t on this list. They’re not on any list. They’re totally forgotten.
Some songs are really just a product of their time and don’t really work with new listeners. Putting on the Ritz worked with that brief trend of 80s elegance based on old movies.
IMO though, the worst song of the 80s that’s both mostly forgotten but still ends up on playlists— Cars with the Boom. The music sucks, the lyrics are stupid, and the vocals are awful.
SmokingTurtleGas@reddit
More Than Words by Extreme needs to be added.
Yes, I know it was released in 1990. But it was written in 1989. So it should count.
Responsible_Trash_40@reddit
I’m not even going to watch because most of the ones people hate I kind of like.
Vespertinelove@reddit (OP)
I liked several of them myself. I was curious if others thought the same on Reddit.
Responsible_Trash_40@reddit
Yeah I just watched and I hate zero of those.
moopet@reddit
Can't be bothered to watch a video that could literally be 10 lines - maybe 40 words? - but I imagine it'll be some kind of ragebait that includes generally-loved songs.
