Local news station had interview with victim's father. He said the dispute was due to someone sitting in the wrong seat and being asked to move. No mention re: a phone charger.
Impressive-Fold-2744@reddit
Yeah, it was about seats. Told him to move, didn’t. Eventually got face to face. Victim punched other guy, who then stabbed him in return.
ManTheDan12@reddit
God what an absolute little bitch. Can't even take a punch like a man.
Hope he feels like a big man in jail for the rest of his life.
Optimistiqueone@reddit
This isn't really a reply to you specifically, but I want to extend from what you said to point out that the general consensus was different for Trevon Martin's killer... who got out his car, started the fight, started losing the fight, then shot and killed in self-defense, and was not found guilty of murder.
So as a society, we've got to decide if any defense of self is justified or does that defense have to be measured according to the initial action.
here-to-help-TX@reddit
I don't believe anyone said Zimmerman started the fight with Treyvon, but getting off topic.
occamstrimmers@reddit
Actually…Optimistqueone did.
here-to-help-TX@reddit
He said general consensus. Which is quite different than him just stating it. He is also wrong about it. There is no evidence that Zimmerman started the fight.
Obi_wan_pleb@reddit
Why are you pushing so hard to make this about race?
IsJamalComing@reddit
They didn’t mention race at all…
Obi_wan_pleb@reddit
Are you really implying that a mention of trvon martin is not related to race?
bright1111@reddit
I think it was just to mention a self defense case that everyone is familiar with… I can’t think of any others off the top of my head
cride11@reddit
I always wonder the same thing when situations like this happen. How come sometimes it’s “just a punch” but other times it’s “a punch could kill you so deadly force is justified.”
Whitehill_Esq@reddit
George Zimmerman prevailed with a self-defense claim because Trayvon Martin: 1. Actually started the physical altercation; and, 2. Had Zimmerman on the ground and was beating his ass, including slamming his head into the sidewalk.
Zimmerman shot him from his back on the ground. It was a pretty clear case of a physical attack that put Zimmerman in imminent danger of great bodily harm or death, and he escalated to lethal force to protect himself. The jury agreed.
Even if Zimmerman had started the fight, you’re generally allowed to kill in self-defense if the other party escalates the situation.
From what we know about this track meet stabbing: they had an argument over seats, then got physical, and then one kid just fucking stabbed the other in the chest. Do you see how the situations are a little different?
TommyTwoNips@reddit
What law firm do you work for?
I want to know so I can never hire them, because their attorneys are clearly not qualified.
If you start a fight while carrying a gun, and then shoot the other person when you start losing, that's 100% a murder.
LastWhoTurion@reddit
If it can be proven that you provoked a fight with the intention of killing the person, that would nullify a self defense justification.
Whitehill_Esq@reddit
“If they escalate the situation”
Let’s use your own scenario: You started a fight while carrying. You lost. You gave up. The other guy won’t stop beating you though and now he’s on top of you slamming your head into the ground.
Is it still not self-defense if you shot him?
Or an even simpler example: I’m carrying a gun and you say something that offends me so I slap you. You absolutely lose it and try stabbing me to death with a knife. I shoot you.
Is that not self-defense either?
There are absolutely scenarios where someone can be the provocateur and still claim self-defense.
TommyTwoNips@reddit
No.
lol
where did you get your fake law degree?

I agree with you. It sucks the kid died, but who the fuck does he think he is that he can just punch someone.
noncongruent@reddit
None of the reporting I've seen so far indicates anything about any punches being thrown by anyone, least of all by the victim. I'm not sure why people are running with the "The victim started it with a punch" narrative since there's no evidence yet of that being the case, but then again we always have loads of the "blame the victim" types that like to stir up arguments everywhere.
Whitehill_Esq@reddit
Fuck that. It’s outrageous to apologize for a MURDERER just because the victim and him got in a fight beforehand.
John_Ruffo@reddit
Can you explain you're position?
There's an argument. One kid punches the other. The other kid replies by stabbing him.
You're saying the kid who punched him did nothing wrong? He is completely innocent?
Whitehill_Esq@reddit
The murderer escalated the situation. Getting punched in the face is no excuse to stab someone in the chest. Good luck to him in court because he’s about to get stomped.
Emergency-Ad-2654@reddit
People have deadass shot and killed people for getting punched there’s multiple videos of it and they got off for “self defense” now this is different in many ways
John_Ruffo@reddit
Tbh, getting punched is all he has going for him. It's the only thing that we know of that would refuse his sentence.
Whitehill_Esq@reddit
Getting punched is going to do absolutely nothing for him. That is not an acceptable excuse to stab someone in the court’s view.

I actually am a lawyer. This guy was not acting in self defense. He is likely going to prison for a very long time.
John_Ruffo@reddit
If you're a lawyer, then I defer to you on any reading of statutes or laws.
But I will place a bet just to keep things light. If his defense doesn't use "self defense", I'll delete my account.
Xkwizito@reddit
Only when there is reason to believe there is a threat of imminent death or serious bodily injury. A single punch is hardly that.
NotGalenNorAnsel@reddit
On you, as in how? It's your fault you were stabbed? That's like road rage logic: if you hadn't cut me off I wouldn't have shot you, so really it's your fault. Or r*pist logic: if you hadn't worn that skirt I wouldn't have been forced to attack you...
If the kid got his ass kicked after punching the other kid? Sure, that's somewhat reasonable for FAFO... Not this.
Spell-lose-correctly@reddit
Go to any ‘bad drivers’ subreddit and that’s the exact logic they all use. “Stay out of the left lane, because of the implications”
John_Ruffo@reddit
No. That's a false equivalency.
Cutting someone off or wearing sexualized clothes is NOT the same as a PUNCH being thrown. This is an act of assault on a person's body.
I feel like what you're trying to do is show hypocrisy. A punch is an act of violence that has the potential to cause death. If you get knocked out and fall on concrete, that could be game over.
We don't know the facts yet, so we'll let it play out. But stabbing someone who punched you versus stabbing someone minding their own business is two different things.
NotGalenNorAnsel@reddit
Sure, it's true we don't know the facts yet, but unless they're still coming at you to keep punching you, no, stabbing them is not an acceptable response. Especially depending on what the kids was actually stabbed with. If it was a knife, yeah, that's especially bad, that should not be at a track meet period. Bringing it shows malicious intent (unless he can prove he has valid threats on his life or something, but even then, it's a school event, zero tolerance for weapons).
John_Ruffo@reddit
The type of weapon used is a fair point. Going to be interesting to see what he had. If it was a butcher knife, it changes the vibes. A lot of details to find out.
Also, we'll find out if there is video but I find it hard to believe the kid threw one punch (if he did in fact punch) and then walked away. That's not how fights typically go.
NotGalenNorAnsel@reddit
Yeah, it's all speculation right now, but yes often altercations are just one punch, depending on the reaction of the person punched. Sometimes they back down, sometimes they punch back, sometimes they escalate with a weapon. If he had an actual knife period, that is very bad for him. That is unacceptable at a school function. But again, not all punches are thrown in order to begin a flurry or beatdown.

Is this where I'm supposed to say "it would have been much worse if a gun had been used."
We don't have a gun, or a knife problem.
We have a Violence Problem!
Lucky_Shot_001@reddit
It takes a special kind of stupid to say there's no gun problem because this incidence was actually a stabbing.
truth-4-sale@reddit
Guns don't kill people... Violent people kill people. Always been that way.
noncongruent@reddit
Guns don't kill people, that's one of those things that technically right but totally misses the point. Guns, especially those with large magazines and those optimized for killing people in war, enable violent individuals to kill vastly more people than they could without guns, and worse, our society has bent over backwards to make sure that as many people who want guns can get them, and we've purposely made it essentially impossible to prevent guns sales to those people who could represent a threat to others. The primary way that the US determines that someone shouldn't have a gun is shootings and mass shootings. In other words, you're allowed to have a gun until you commit a shooting or mass shooting, then we'll take your gun(s) away, but not one minute before.
truth-4-sale@reddit
So thugs and criminals have no means to "acquire" a gun outside the "legal" way ? ? ?

"Look over there, it's a butterfly!!!!"

If he'd had a Glock or AR-platform rifle with large capacity mags he could have killed a whole lot more than three people. He could have killed 53 and wounded 49 more with just a Glock and a semi-automatic rifle, firing over 110 rounds in just minutes.
Spell-lose-correctly@reddit
I agree, but I was just pointing out that you can stab 20 people in 10 minutes as well
noncongruent@reddit
Yes, it's theoretically possible, but the risk for the stabber is much higher because s/he has to be within punching range of someone to stab them. Also, stab wounds are less likely to be fatal in most cases. Ultimately, there's no way to compare stabbing and shooting. The plain facts are that mass shootings are much more common than mass stabbings and are universally more fatal. Imagine what would have happened if Stephen Paddock had tried using a knife instead of multiple AR-platform rifles with large capacity magazines in Las Vegas. If Mateen had only a knife the chances of him being able to kill 53 and critically injure 49 more would have been zero. Several of the people he killed he shot through a closed door. Knives don't work through doors. It's likely had he only been armed with a knife that someone would have brained him with a bottle or chair very early in the attack. So, just to be clear, there's no equivalency between knives and guns, and bringing up knives is a red herring meant only to distract and detour the conversation in irrelevant directions.
UnfortunateLamp@reddit
You are, truly, a fucking idiot. And I’m ashamed to contribute to a society that you also contribute to.

GoodQueenFluffenChop@reddit
It's both. Yeah someone getting stabbed to death over something stupid is horrible but you can't deny had there been a gun there would have been way more deaths because it's so much easier to kill lots of people at once with guns than knives.

Is that true? That's a huge piece of the story if Karmelo got punched before stabbing.

From what I heard from another Frisco student the victim allegedly broke the suspects phone at a party then I guess was confronted about it at the track meet which led to the stabbing.

RedRanger111@reddit
The white kid punched the black kid first over a seat. The black kid was also having a psychotic episode. If the roles were switched, they'd be blaming the black for bullying, yet he's still being blamed when he was the one bullied. Not surprising.
It's all sad for both families in the end. Frisco is full of chuds and maybe you shouldn't put your hands on someone no matter the situation.
Ok-Independent-789@reddit
It's also reported that the murder was after the kid looking for a fight.
Xidig6@reddit
This makes me wonder whether Karmelo was getting bullied by Austin? What was Karmelo doing allegedly being in the wrong section? Why did Austin possibly assault him first? Several students are reporting that Austin also broke Karmelo’s phone the week before (not sure how factual that is).
There was another story several years ago that came out where a kid stabbed his classmate… the parents acted like they had no idea that their child was bullying others. Turns out that kid was being bullied and the administrators were doing nothing about it… he finally couldn’t take it anymore and un-alived him. Usually when they’re that angry enough to take life, there’s a deeper back story.
There’s more to this story that we’re not being told. Hopefully when all the details are revealed it will put this tragic event into context.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1051971
RedRanger111@reddit
Exactly. I'm not saying I know what happened, but neither do any of the other commentors here. From someone on the outside looking in, I can say without a doubt that you shouldn't punch someone and expect there to not be consequences. I'm not saying him dying from stabbing is an equal punishment either.
This appears to have been avoidable.
Ok-Independent-789@reddit
Yet you act like you know what happened. Seems like you wouldn't have cared if it wasn't a white kid who died.
Skindiamondxx@reddit

What is going on with kids these days? They seem to have no respect for life at all. It is very tragic.
blucivic1@reddit
These days? None of this is new.
JAB_TX_Embroidery@reddit
It's not new, but it is definitely becoming more frequent and more heinous. These kids aren't becoming more violent in a vaccuum. Historically, children have been exposed to far more violence (in life and entertainment) than they are in modern Western culture, so simple exposure seems unlikely to be the full answer. So, what is driving the increase in violent ideation among our youth and the wider society? There's an old saying about victims and abusers that I think seems applicable here: "Hurt people hurt people." When a society is being abused by its masters, and their future is devoid of hope and pathways to success, violent ideation is a natural response from the population and can be expected to rise (which we are witnessing) in proportion to the violence inflicted on them.
Just my 2 cents, but who knows?
CCFCP@reddit
you’re getting caught up sensationalism and a media bubble. Look up the real data and downward trend since the 21st century started
iownaford@reddit

Boring-Freedom4236@reddit
Historically the the other demographic was known for inhumane treatment of every other demographic for centuries. Making it an skin color thing is a red herring, the real issue is pyschological and socio-economic factors.
Rest in peace to this young man who tragically lost his life, and I cant imagine what the twin brother who held him in his last moments mist be going through. And I hope justice will be served to the person who committed the crime. Regardless of skin color.

YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
not correct lmao, you have to have evidence of a crime being committed because of the victim's protected class (race, gender, etc) in order for it to be a hate crime.
believe it or not, some people can just be violent shitheads for the sake of being a violent shithead, not because of animosity toward someone's protected classes.

noncongruent@reddit
Reporting indicates that the stabber was in a tented area where he didn't belong, was asked to leave, refused, and when the victim picked up the stabber's backpack the stabber stabbed him in the chest. Though some people are pushing the narrative that the victim punched the stabber first and provoked the stabbing there's no reporting at all indicating that this was the case. We won't know the details until the investigation is complete, which likely won't be for a while.

It’s potentially a stretch to say this was a result of a psychotic episode. The base rate of adolescent onset psychosis is pretty low. me and austin were friends, austin who was killed went too memorial high, karmelo who stabbed him went too centennial high, karmelo was trying to get into the memorials tent at a track meet and austin said get tf on basically and the kid said what u gonna do about it, austin punched him and broke karmelos phone. karmelo left and came back with a knife and stabbed him. basically just another kid thats clearly fucked in the head and didnt wanna be embarrassed if he had time to leave go get a knife and come back, thought about what he was gonna do the whole time and went through with it. these frisco kids want frisco to be the hood so bad like it wasnt rated top safest city in america 2 years ago. if you want to fight without escalating you get in the ring, like most fights outside end up with someone crippled, put in jail, or dead. shits fucked up LLA❤️
