What's a good hobby or passtime for a couple to do together?

Wife and I are finding the evenings quite boring recently. We tend to get in from work and sit on our phones more and more, and I think that it's affecting our mental health a bit.
Looking for something we can do together for a night or two a week. Would love to hear your suggestions. We already work out and run, so not that. And yes, shagging too before someone suggests that!
secretvictorian@reddit
Sounds boring af but we pick a book and read a few chapters aloud each night. Winds us down its nice
Eni420@reddit
Cute!
secretvictorian@reddit
Aw thanks lol. Its nice; it prompts discussion about what we have just read instead of the usual work/ tasks/ kids/ chores.

Any mixed sports: tennis, badminton, paddle, ten-pin bowling etc.

Kayaking, canoeing, paddle board.

Left right, up down, anyway you want ...

Wii Tennis despite it being outdated is huge fun
abbeylwp@reddit
A coop game like It Takes Two or Split Fiction if you have a console. They take actual collaboration and team work so nice to play with a partner in the evening
SomethingNew6718@reddit
As a side note, is Split Fiction any good? I've been tempted to pick it up
ForegoTheSludge@reddit
Myself and my partner have just finished it. Won't say too much but it is truly amazing. Masterpiece.
Delicious_Bet_8546@reddit
My and my bf have just finished our first play through. Going through it again but playing as the different characters this time, there's quite a lot of difference in the game play so it still feels fresh playing it again.
There's also a small easter egg throw back to it takes two, which was a nice find!
bethelns@reddit
It's really good but I would say if you have it on pc invest in a games controller as mouse and keyboard has some odd key binds that make it very tricky to play. I'm using keyboard, husband is using a USB controller and he's finding sections much easier.
abbeylwp@reddit
Only half way through but it’s very good! Fun little side quests throughout and some moments where you have to truly work as a pair
SomethingNew6718@reddit
Or BG3 and you can try to convince your wife that you didn't mean to target her with a fireball three times in a row...
phatboi23@reddit
I have a feeling you've done this...
The 4th time was just for a laugh haha
SomethingNew6718@reddit
I was the wife in this scenario - the first time, at least 😂
phatboi23@reddit
Brilliant haha
Delicious_Bet_8546@reddit
Little nightmares 1 and 2 is also a good shout. Though does get a bit creepy.
CatKungFu@reddit
Big little planet too
JSF--10@reddit
Unravel 2, a way out and overcooked are also great co op games if you're into gaming as a couple
ForegoTheSludge@reddit
We cook together then we play games mostly, sometimes board games, sometimes PS5 together (it takes 2 and split fiction are made for 2 people to play together and you can't play them solo. Both amazing)
eachtoxicwolf@reddit
Minecraft - go construct something together. Also, Bloon Tower Defence 6 - it has coop to clear maps
PurpWippleM3@reddit
Get a dog. Walk dog. Play with dog. Cuddle dog. Go to bed. Kick dog off bed. Get up. Walk dog. Repeat.
CameramanNick@reddit
Go for a walk.
Pick a coffee shop or whatever and walk to it. Select distance to suit available time. Vary the route for scenic surroundings, distance, and avoidance of roads. Explore! Go through the woods. It's coming up to summer. It's nice. You can talk. Exercise is good for you and improves mood.
Have a piece of cake and a cup of coffee and walk back in the confidence that you've walked off most of the cake.
HystericGhost@reddit
I recommend the Cryptic Killers mystery games, its a whodunnit game with clues and transcripts of a case to solve. If you play video games though I'd recommend JackBox games, can get a good laugh from them.
ahhhhhayea@reddit
Maybe foot rubs/ pampering and other sort of intimate activities would be good that aren't shagging as you already have that? What age group we talking about? There's some good multiplayer games you could play on consoles that are designed for teamwork like I think it was called "it takes two". If not a bit of rummikub or something? You could become a mixed team at badminton or something 🤷♂️
VesperVesperVesper@reddit
You can by a 2 canvases, brush sets, paints and a palette at The Works for £20. We're both diabolical at painting, but attempt to paint the same thing - usually a photo from a holiday or something like that. Add in a couple of drinks whilst were doing it and they turn out terrible, but it's a good laugh. If you enjoy it, you only need to buy the canvases the next time which I think are £7 for 2.
thickersettled@reddit
Quiz night at a local pub.
carlovski99@reddit
Someone else mentioned it, but Archery is good if you have a club near you. Beginners courses are fun, and you get to meet a few new people. You can shoot in pairs, have a bit of healthy competition and even enter a few competitions if you get into it.
defylife@reddit
Something that requires a new skill. If you both like athletic things what about taking up tennis (with proper coaching)
Or if you're creative some kind of woodwork classes or similar. Will come in handy around the home.
Tildatots@reddit
We play a lot of pool - I was shit at first but now I’m regularly winning haha
carlovski99@reddit
We tried that, but usually ends in arguments about either not letting her have a shot, or letting her win. Still have the occasional game though.
thetartanviking@reddit
JIGSAWS!!
My partner and I collect cheap ones from charity shops and hand them to a new shop once finished
Always keep one out on the table and do a small bit at a time when you have 30min Very great silent OR interactive shared experience
The focus on the task at hand is like teamwork and conversation flows easier when you're in that focused state rather than a pressured obligation to just sit and talk when staring at each other

We watch Netflix 😊
Nikkotak@reddit
That’s our thing we do together. Specifically true crime documentaries. We’re both trying to figure out how to bump the other one off and get away with it.
sambobozzer@reddit
Hahaha! My wife likes to watch one episode after another and I tend to fall asleep or say I need to go to sleep as I have work in the morning.

Dogging
RabidBadgerFarts@reddit
I was gonna say swinging but dogging works, and with summer coming it's a great excuse to get out in the fresh air.
willybarrow@reddit
Superb suggestion
hb16@reddit
Lego. A good TV series. Not a hobby but we do have a regular date night on a weekday just as something nice to do mid week.
We used to play badminton but not for a long while now
nomeancity29@reddit
Hillwalking. Honestly it’s so good. At first it’s a bit of a pain but once you both get into it and reach the first little summit, you’ll both love it and do it more. I promise. Pick a small little hill, next you know you’ll be hiking Ben Nevis.
DameKumquat@reddit
Board games and card games are good - often ones with a little luck and reacting to cards (eg Sagrada, Azul, Ticket to Ride 2-player boards) work better than the pure skill ones like chess or Scrabble.
Find a TV series or some films you both want to watch?
DIY?
Saltoric@reddit
I'd like to add some other great 2 player board games I like with my partner: Jaipur, Seven Wonders: Duel, Caper Europe, Agricola All Creatures Big and Small.
Chronicles of Crime is fun as 2 people too if you want to solve crimes and interview suspects.

My partner and I like to stick on TV game shows and see who does better. Might end up driving you apart though!

Watch some German shiza porn of Cartmans mother while having a nice meal and a bottle of wine to share. If that doesn’t entertain you then I’m afraid nothing will

ReginaldGinnett@reddit
Was going to say this, get one those birdsong apps on your phone so you can know what birds you have around you. Lots of nice RSPB and local Wildlife Trust reserves that are free to get into.
I used to do it all the time with my ex-mrs, I worked 50 odd hours in a kitchen with no windows. Used to love just ***k off into the middle of nowhere, can't see any houses/roads/power lines.
Walking down some old medieval path and seeing the same kind of view someone walking down that path 500 years ago would see.
JTitch420@reddit
I’d recommend Merlin bird ID app. Very good and accessible
Affectionate_Ear7856@reddit
How about planning what you can do in your “proper spare time”. Eg both look for things to do/ places to go at the weekend?
Big-Flatworm-9164@reddit
Jigsaw seriously, we done during lockdown and had good chat and drink
jumper62@reddit
Agreed. In my family, we get a jigsaw of holidays we've been to as well, kinda like a souvenir.
Affectionate_Ear7856@reddit
Love that idea!
Mikeytee1000@reddit
Go out walking we have long days soon
bluejackmovedagain@reddit
Board games, lego, jigsaws, craft activities like crochet, doing separate things while listening to an audiobook.
deadeye-ry-ry@reddit
Gaming. There's so many different games that have CO-OP mode
Boardgames
Jigsaws
Gardening
Gym/workouts
CremeCompetitive3554@reddit
I don’t have a partner anymore but when I did we would always go dog walking and taking trips to the beach. Also ten pin bowling is always fun.
ember_eb@reddit
Jigsaw puzzle is actually a great shout, surprisingly immersive and collaborative.
Scrabble, other such board games
Video games are good fun. Any 2 player game, Co op game, racings games etc.
Cook together, neither me or my partner like cooking together and take it in turns as we hate being in the same space cooking butttt something like making pizzas together (buy a base) or making pasta etc is actually v fun.
Go to the pub
Listen to a podcast together whilst you scroll on phones to at least have a conversational backdrop
Dunno?? Depends on preferences and where you live and options available to you.
If you’re so inclined do fun little beauty/spa things to eachother. Massage, facial (not that kind..) etc
atomic_mermaid@reddit
We walk the dog, play badminton, multiplayer game, go out for date nights.
pajamakitten@reddit
Crafting could be fun. You could crochet together or something like that.
RichMagazine2713@reddit
Play chess :)

My partner and I have started taking a language class together. Extra incentive to get good at it will be a trip to practice it in a year or so

Why not try a tai chi course? It may seem odd but it’s actually very therapeutic.

Find a decent pub quiz. Gets you out for a few hours and you can have a bit of a laugh and meet some new people. I got to a small one on a Monday evening, only 5-6 teams, mostly couples. It’s great fun.
BirdCreates@reddit
My husband and I subscribed to MasterClass. There are hundreds of them. You can watch together or do your own and share information.
News Wellness Business Food Community-almost any subject. It’s awesome.
reocoaker@reddit
Walk or cycle together, I know you said you exercise together already but these you can actually chat whilst doing them.
Sudden-Possible3263@reddit
Rock hounding, go learn about your local minerals you'll either hate it or be hooked.
ijs_1985@reddit
As the evenings are getting longer maybe some trips to the beach or something like that
Till_Naive@reddit
Have a baby
SoyHector@reddit
Outdoors - just go for a walk, photography, star gazing.
Indoors - painting / arts & crafts, get some watercolours and follow some tutorials, you can also get things like pottery and candle making kits. Board games, games like wingspan are good. While you wouldn't want to do it every night you can also get escape room games that you can do in your own home. It sounds stupid but have you also thought about mini presentations to each other, you can think of funny topics like "my favourite chocolate bars and why" or you can do like semi serious topics like figures / events from history and you have an hour to research it and then teach the other person about the topic or something.
Little_st4r@reddit
Buy one of the cryptic clues case files. They are so fun!
stargrazer156@reddit
There's a game called Detective for a day
It was good fun for us.
nervous_veggie@reddit
Get a hot tu Cook together? Kidding (kind of)
Find a good box set to watch together? Paint each other (on paper, just to be clear)
Jolly_Report4@reddit
Darts , practice at home then play in mixed pairs at pub 👍
Mr__Skeet@reddit
Board games (Banagrams, Wingspan for example), and have a policy where phones need to be put into a drawer/basket ideally not in the same room - you’ll see how addicted you both are when you notice yourselves still instinctively reaching for your phones.
Me and the Mrs implemented this phone ban for games (and also when we watch tv/films) about 18 months ago and I honestly can’t recommend it enough.
GordonLivingstone@reddit
Dance class? Learn a language fir your next holiday - and practice on each other between classes?
JSF--10@reddit
Without knowing either of your interests or ages is quite hard to help, but the obvious ones are movie/TV series, gaming, eating/cooking (going to classes to learn as a couple is amazing)

How about talking to each other and finding out what you might be interested in doing rather than asking the internet.
PerfectGent-HisQueen@reddit
It's quite difficult to offer a potentially useful answer without knowing what either of your interests are
What about working together on plans for days out/adventures/holidays/new kinds of date nights you've never been on?
