Done with 97.1 the eagle
Posted by lucki-dog@reddit | Dallas | View on Reddit | 472 comments
I’ve lived here a while. I have seen the rise and fall of many radio dj’s into the current state it is now. I kind of enjoyed the eagle, before it became the freak, then back to the eagle.
It doesn’t rock anymore. I find that it’s a hollow shell of itself, though I was happy once it returned.
However, this morning about 8:30, ten-fifteen minutes ago. The radio DJ (idk who they even are) publicly made an announcement that Luigi Maglioni should receive the death penalty because he “doesn’t get it”.
I have never been more disgusted in my life.
“He pulled a trigger and killed a guy, it’s sad that people are denied claims and have to go through that and die as a result, but this man needs to die now too”. -unpopular opinion.
I’m officially done with the eagle. It’s not what it was, and certainly championing the death penalty was a choice.

I listen to KERA all the time and hear about a bunch of things I would have never known about or considered before. It's good for the brain.
BunkMoreland1414@reddit
It’s the only station I listen to. I prefer my podcasts when I’m in the car. But if I forgot my phone. I’ll turn on KERA. Sometimes I catch some news or a really interesting story.
AngryXenomorph@reddit
I was about to say KERA and NPR are the last bastions of quality radio. Everything else is gone or reduced to playing what they're told. You can get more out of a Spotify playlist than you could in a full week on an average radio station.
HammyScammy@reddit
NPR’s quality has gone downhill recently (the last year or so) imo.

If I'm not listening to the music on my phone I'm listening to NPR. I'm just annoyed when I press "next" without thinking about it and end up on the fucking Christian radio station.

KERA Think it's a gem, I still listen to that show years after leaving Dallas
AliceStillDrowns@reddit
In the last year I've actually gone and swapped my radio so that if I'm not playing something off Bluetooth, it's KERA or NPR or something like that. All the other radio stations suck sooooo hard nowadays; they only play the same handful of old songs or it's sports talk radio. Really been enjoying the music selections and journalism bits on KERA though.

I’m sick of funding the billionaires (Apple Music) and enablers of grifters (Spotify, Joe Rogan) who are ruining our society, so I recently cancelled my streaming music service and started listening and donating to KXT.org instead.
I thought it would feel like I’m giving up a modern super convenience and would hurt to go back to radio where I can’t listen to whatever I want at any time.
But no, I’ve fucking loved it. I feel more connected to my community and have a running list of music that I never would have found otherwise. It’s wonderful. And I can stream it in high quality from their website.
Highly recommend.

KXT (91.7) is awesome. Doesn't matter what genre of music you like - you'll hear it eventually on KXT (except classical, they have a separate channel for that).
MateoCafe@reddit
If you like KXT may I recommend KEXP from Seattle, they have an app you can play and I think they might be better than KXT unless you really love Texas specific artists.
planeruler@reddit
I lived in Seattle for almost 30 years and listened to KEXP for years. I like KXT more because their DJs play KXT music rather than DJ music on KEXP. In other words, you can tune in to KXT at any time of day and hear a wide variety of music.
MateoCafe@reddit
That is interesting because I feel like KEXP is even more varied musically especially with what each DJ plays. The 3 main DJs I hear on KEXP are all very different with the genres and vibes they give off and they have the genre specific shows at night and weekends like KNON does.
I feel like there are really only 3 DJs on KXT and I don't get a sense that their musical tastes are all that different (La Belle being the exception because she definitely plays more RnB) and the little "bits" they do (vinyl track, under the covers, British song of the day, Local bites) are generally 1-2 songs for the entire day rather than an interesting block from a DJ like El Sonido or Sonic Reducer.
Rich_Psychology8990@reddit
Shake The Shack!
TakeATrainOrBusFFS@reddit
The only thing more I could possibly ask of them is to have time blocks for dark synthwave and black metal, but for something that has to stay afloat in the mainstream, KXT is absolute fire.

If I get tired of TuneIn radio, I will go to 88.5FM KEOM,Mesquite Schools Radio. With TuneIn Radio I will find a classic rock station in a foreign language so I don’t have to hear about politics.
ItsMinnieYall@reddit
I’m so happy to see a KEOM shout out! I used to work at the station when I was in school a billion years ago and it was one of the coolest programs in Mesquite.
Express-Way9295@reddit
I don’t listen to KEOM as regularly as I used to. But I enjoyed some of the learning segments they played. Words You Never Heard comes to the top of my mind, but there were others too. Looking back, I’ve listened to KEOM since 1994, at least. Awesome!
ItsMinnieYall@reddit
Same! I listen a lot more during the holidays as they play Christmas music. I have really fond memories of writing the traffic and weather reports.
It’s neat because the music is supposed to appeal to parents of MISD students. So they used to play a lot of 60s music. When I worked there in high school, it was “all 70s all the time” because that’s what 2009 parents grew up on. And I remember when they started pushing the boundaries by playing 80s Michael Jackson here and there.
But the kids and parents keep getting older. Now they play “oldies” from the 70s - 90s lol.
Express-Way9295@reddit
Yes, they used to play some interesting late 60s, tomind. early 70s music. Smiling Faces comes to mind. I haven’t heard that played on KEOM in years now.
wiptes167@reddit

KXT is fantastic. I always listen to them in the car. I keep my Shazam app open so I can find new music.
TchoupedNScrewed@reddit
If you want to still own some tracks to play, iirc Bandcamp gives an incredibly generous portion of their purchase to the artist.
Not sure if they’ve changed, but it used to be a large chunk of songs/albums sold and 100% of all merchandise sold directly to the artist.
TakeATrainOrBusFFS@reddit
Bandcamp is solid. I've purchased from there.
I also would be glad to support local record stores or Half-Price Books. Something independent-ish, you know?
And if you really want to spend your money in a democratic country as opposed to this backsliding oligarchy, Qobuz is based in France and lets you purchase and download DRM-free music. (Also it has a greater selection than Bandcamp.)
TchoupedNScrewed@reddit
I’ll have to check out Qobuz cus my one gripe with Bandcamp is its discog.
I’ll often consume media free before purchasing it, but I make a point to purchase it should I want to support the artist.
Really like platforms like Bandcamp that give even a few bucks more to the artists. Spotify is making it hail pennie’s.

“Death to Luigi because I don’t get it”
DisgruntledTexan@reddit
Two things can be true at once. Our health system is currently fucked, and assassinating someone in the U.S. will get you the death penalty.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
New York state doesn't have the death penalty, and it was his first offense.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Ima block you if you think Luigi is guilty
vitaminz1990@reddit
He's guilty. Now depart with me too and maybe make a post about it.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Lol idgaf about u bye
DisgruntledTexan@reddit
You don’t think it was him that shot the insurance exec from behind?
CanoegunGoeff@reddit
Well the courts have yet to prove it. You’d think if it was such a clean cut case, they’d have been able to prove it beyond reasonable doubt months ago, yet, they haven’t. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, and there’s been little to no movement on that front as of now. Like it or not, that’s the truth. And that’s not to defend what he allegedly did, this is to say that we need to see for sure beyond doubt that they have the right guy, which, to anyone who’s been following the case from the beginning, there’s a lot of reason to suggest that they may actually not have the right guy. Due process is under fire all across this nation right now, and without due process, there is no justice for any one of us, and nothing preventing abuses of power.
WorldcupTicketR16@reddit
This is your argument? Luigi is practically innocent because a murder case that began four months ago should have already had a completed trial? Casey Anthony's trial took over 2 years to begin and Brian Kohlberger, arrested in 2022, hasn't had his trial even start yet. Maybe you could familiarize yourself with how the legal system works before trying to make the case that someone might be innocent because they weren't convicted within four months.
No, that's just a legal principle. O.J. Simpson was guilty as hell. Osama Bin Laden too.
CanoegunGoeff@reddit
My argument is that he hasn’t been proven guilty. I’m not saying he can’t be. I’m saying if it was so clear cut with overwhelming evidence that he was, we’d likely have seen that evidence by now. Not that this time passed means he’s innocent- You’re misrepresenting what I said.
I’m also not saying the system works every time, it’s actually extremely flawed and gives mixed results. But yes, it’s supposed to be innocent until proven guilty.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Court of law needs to prove it, so having disgusting opinions like “yeah kill this guy, we need to protect out CEOs” without due process is sick.
It’s disgusting.
Innocent until guilty.
WorldcupTicketR16@reddit
Yeah, that whole innocent until proven guilty is just a legal safeguard that has no power outside of a courtroom. Osama Bin Laden was never convicted of anything, please don't whine when I call him a terrorist murderer.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Comparing apples and oranges?
Don’t care. Strawman
DisgruntledTexan@reddit
I didn’t say he shouldn’t get due process. It’ll be on the court to decide. But, you’re moving the goal post - you said you’d block me if I thought Luigi is guilty of killing that guy. Me simply believing the he committed the act he is accused of, isn’t enough to convict him and shouldn’t be. And I didn’t say anything about “protecting CEOs” - I simply observed that, if you murder someone, in a premeditated fashion, there is a good chance you’ll get the death penalty.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
I won’t block you but I’m not talking with you anymore,
Luigi is innocent and has to be proven guilty
DisgruntledTexan@reddit
Literally agreed with you that he should get due process.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Your last sentence says otherwise
MangorTX@reddit
DisgruntledTexan@reddit
The statement implies being proven guilty in a court of law with appropriate due process, as I stated in my first sentence.
kakurenbo1@reddit
Except it wasn’t an assassination. Just because the guy was rich doesn’t mean it was a political killing. Corrupt Trump cultists want to say it was political so they can charge him federally and bypass both New York and Pennsylvania state courts.
So far, both states have agreed to allow New York to prosecute first, but New York doesn’t have the death penalty. If convicted in NY, he will have to serve his sentence there (life in prison for this charge) before his sentence in Pennsylvania.
onfroiGamer@reddit
It wasn’t an assassination? 🤣 holy fuck what do you call it then
PissantPrairiePunk@reddit
A plain ole fuckin murder, maybe?
onfroiGamer@reddit
Yup cus people who commit murder typically leave cryptic messages inscribed on bullets, sure
DisgruntledTexan@reddit
Given his leadership position in a highly contentious industry, and the reasons behind it (subject to further investigation of course), I’d argue assassinate is an acceptable term here. But, I understand your point.
I’m not familiar with state by state death penalty laws off hand, but my point was more along the lines of, premeditated murder will get you the highest punishment available which in many places in the U.S. is the death penalty. Again, I understand your point there, and it’s an important clarification for NY.
Unfair_Reach_9258@reddit
People "assassinate" political figures, he murdered one CEO, a mostly private citizen, and it's not like he's not a mass shooter or serial killer, if he gets the death penalty for one premeditated murder they're going to end up making him into a martyr.

boyyouguysaredumb@reddit
they're also not killing anybody due to claim denial. People just are saying they are. I think there have been two total lawsuits in 10 years against United for death related to a claim denial. Back in the late 90’s they spent a whole show covering the “breaking news” of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake dying in a car accident. It’s what lead to them being fired. The eagle played angry voice mail during add breaks and apologized profusely for a week.

showMeYourPitties10@reddit
Yeah, it seemed like his show character was either taking over his actual personality or his character was his actual personality that he let loose as he gained more success. Still miss listening to the show, and I completely separate entertainment from the entertainer. One thing I regret doing when I listened to radio was look up what the voices looked like, I had a completely different visual of them in my head; Russ, funny enough, I always envisioned Kenny Powers. Dan was Romo, Chloe was fat Jonah Hill...

Its a millennial oldie station shoved into a sports talk station, with active listeners who think the current U.S. administration is doing work specifically for them (i.e. idiots). It’s been dead to me for a while. 88.1 is the go-to for people who still listen to the radio, and that’s super hilarious because it’s just UNT’s campus radio showing the rest of the industry how it should be done.
Ok_Bicycle_8228@reddit
Lmao that’s what did it? Not the same shitty 13 rock songs they cycle through?
AcceptableCode8939@reddit
Hmmm a murder in cold blood….seems like if there is a death penalty this would qualify.

Kevin Turner aka ktfuntweets mention this post on the 97.1 Ben and Skin show today at 3:00pm. You should be feel honored and you should keep listening to the station.

Really? Mixed feelings about that
ktfuntweets@reddit
I’m also the guy who said don’t punish the local hosts for something that offended you from a show that’s nationally syndicated.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
I get that. Hope you believe me, I’m not exactly sure what to do at this point. I won’t stoke the fire, but I did not expect this much attention.
ShadowFlameSA@reddit
They genuinely need to mute radio DJ microphones and play the fucking music… the garbage these people will talk about to make up 30min spaces is, as you put it, quite disgusting.
Nobody needs to hear stories from grown men on the time their dad taught them to shave their balls while driving into work… or to hear their undying devotion to self-centered opinions. Nobody gives a fuck, just play rock & roll and fuck off. 👀

I normally do not listen anymore. But I still have staple “stations” I will listen to for a moment.
They played some things I liked when I turned on the car. Today? “Luigi deserves death, I don’t get it”
Removed.
ktfuntweets@reddit
As someone who works at the station, that was the opinion of someone on the morning show…so plz don’t quit the station because one person said something you disagree with.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Don’t care, I’d only come back if they’re fired and public apologies made by the company.
I’ve listened to this station for DECADES and that was the most DISGUSTING thing to have an opinion on.
I permanently removed it from my radio. The fact that was allowed to air means I’m never coming back. That was the final nail, last straw, etc.
If you really work for them, then forward this to everyone. I will never let that channel ever be used in my car again. I’m going to recommend to everyone that the eagle is dead and to not even waste their time. I’m going to cherish the memories I had of the good days, but the eagle is officially dead.
Hope it was awesome getting that “unpopular opinion” out there.

Yes! A man should be fired because I disagree with him! Good lord.

I’m old enough to know you can’t plz everybody, so this will be my last message but That opinion came from a syndicated show out of LA, so maybe don’t punish the local people who work at the Eagle in Dallas for that.
Also in this economy, real weird to ever wish or try to get anybody fired.

That your bosses agree, a small common man whose family died because of denied claims, him getting denied claims, so that insurance companies can take money from you and not give ANYTHING back as they rob those lesser than them that they promised to help.
For the rest of time I will be telling people that those at 97.1 believe common people should be killed if they ever step out of line.
I don’t think you understand how BAD this was.
_2_old_4_this_@reddit
my man, you're a bit unhinged in all these comments you've had around here.

lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Unhinged?
Publicly stating on a radio that a man should get the death penalty without due process or presumption of innocent till proven guilty.
That’s not unhinged?
I have a right to be mad, that’s not a good look. This means the station thinks it’s okay. This means that rich assholes think you should be murdered because they don’t want an uprising and want you to just consume and spend money on them.
So I’m not listening. And actively telling others the same. It’s a dead radio station anyways
_2_old_4_this_@reddit
Were those the exact words, or was it more like "I think luigi should get the death penalty", and then you added all the rest?

A rich asshole okayed this djs position and said it was okay to talk about.
neatgeek83@reddit

What was this in? Ben and skin? They have their own opinions, and frankly, you may agree with Maglioni and his views, frankly I do myself, but he broke the law of the land. And he'll face the consequences. That's how it works. Should we let anyone who claims to be making a good point the freedom to kill people? Who would then decide if the cause they're promoting is good enough to excuse murder or not? The guys in the radio were completely correct. Idk why anyone would expect Luigi to get any type of pass or anything just because the guy he killed probably deserved it. He shit someone and killed him. Plain and simple.

I was happy it was back for about one commute. Then I went back to my mp3 cds, and forgot about it.
That Luigi thing shows how tone deaf media is to their audience. We really need a broader discussion about why people support what he did, while still generally agreeing that murder is wrong. I've been saying for years that my uncle is a sociopath. His job is denying insurance claims. He is indirectly causing the death of dozens of people, and then he can laugh about it.

Commercial radio is awful and has been awful for a while now. However we have some excellent non commercial stations.
91.7 KXT and 88.7 KTCU are wide format stations that have huge playlists and dig deep on the artists you know while introducing you to up and coming artists and actually give local bands a chance.
89.3 KNON is a block formatted station that plays everything, ever. But you have to look for a block you like.
88.1 KNTU has an identical playlist to the 102.1 Edge and Alt 103.7, but is commercial free. Side note: I tried 103.7 a week or two ago at the “all request lunch” and I can confidently say 103.7 sucks. Camfield isn’t that interesting and the music is stale. Seriously, ANY KXT DJ is better.
88.5 KEOM is a fantastic oldies station and 101.1 is a great classical station. 95.3 the Range is commercial, but they dig deeper on country and give the smaller Texas artists a chance.
lordb4@reddit
I'm convinced Camfield pre-records all his bits because he is ALWAYS there.
trimondo_blondomina@reddit
You’re not wrong. Basically everything is voice tracked nowadays. It’s cheaper and the automation software makes it super easy.
This last Christmas Eve, Jackson, one of the KXT DJs, said something along the lines of “don’t worry about me working in the booth Christmas Eve, this is prerecorded, I’m with my family.”

Rooster_Castille@reddit
I think if you pay attention you do hear radio guys running off at the mouth with opinions you will extremely dislike. It's the same issue with following anyone else in media. Sure you like Chris Pratt but do you pay any attention to his opinion on women's roles? Or Henry Cavill saying he's afraid to date because he thinks every woman is a rabid feminist who will accuse him of R* if he so much as looks at them?
Most of us fell of terrestrial radio during one of the many waves of corporate shifts. For me, the Eagle has always been "metallica metallica metallica skynrd metallica metallica five finger death punch" and that hasn't ever appealed to me. You can just go buy some metallica albums and enjoy that a lot better because there won't be twenty minutes of extremely stupid ads every hour. You can just go buy the Freebird single. Records, CDs, MP3s all exist. And then there's streaming. The thing radio offers that is unique is a sense of community, and corporate radio in our area has done a real bad job at that. You get more cool stuff out of the indie stations. We used to have a bunch of them, I think there's just two or three now. Even the university stations are a better experience. Plus they play new cool stuff you would never hear on corporate radio, or hits that corporate radio won't pick up until a year later.
Freejak33@reddit
why listen to the radio in 2025?
stykface@reddit
I want what's best for everyone suffering a medical issue and are "denied" and I do not want to justify what the DJ said or what Mangione did, but you absolutely cannot take matters into your own hand like Mangione did. This is complete and total chaos if we just murdered people because we felt like it.
Broken systems need to be done the right way or society would collapse.
The last thing I'll say is no matter what system you have in place, the reality is you will still have people denied life-saving medical services because a free market or controlled market cannot make the availability of medical services infinitely abundant. Either a free market creates a low-cost system that delegates medical service priories through the pricing system within the law, or you use a state controlled system that rations the medical services and prioritizes how it sees best fit from tax payers based off applicability. There is no in-between and that's the reality.

Pretty sure it's legally self defense in Texas
Quirky-Mode8676@reddit
Feel free to chime in with your solution to insurance companies making BILLIONS on the suffering and death of your fellow Americans.
We can't pay politicians enough to get them in check, or eliminate them, we certainly can't pay the politicians enough to make universal healthcare a thing, so what the fuck are we supposed to do? Just die like good peasants servicing their masters? Courts aren't holding them in check. So who is?
What should the penalty be for stealing millions (denied legitimate coverage) while causing the deaths of millions? This guy literally pushed through a software that automatically denies legitimate claims. If you repeatedly denied legitimate charges to your credit card, that would be fraud, and you could go to jail. But rules for thee, not for me applies when you're wealthy enough to pay off politicians.
Exanguish@reddit
I don’t know the answer but I’m like 99% sure civilized society doesn’t agree with vigilante murder.
csonnich@reddit
Look around bro. This is not a civilized society we're living in.
Exanguish@reddit
Maybe you don’t but I still live in a society that doesn’t condone vigilante murder.
holy-dragon-scale@reddit
The fact that people have already proven Luigi couldn’t have done it / they have the wrong person is also pretty interesting. But nobody cares about that apparently. I hope Luigi gets off because he doesn’t deserve any of this. He’s just the person they’re pinning it on.
Manueljw@reddit
Can you provide some proof, here? I haven't kept up with the findings of internet folks.
holy-dragon-scale@reddit
Not gonna lie, it’s mainly TikTok videos or Reddit rabbit holes because the media wants to pin this on Luigi. But based on what I recall, it was saying Luigi was on the other side of NYC / he wasn’t near and the prosecutors were claiming he biked to kill the CEO and that’s how he “got there so fast” but people did the bike theory and it took double the amount of time for someone in shape be Luigi who has had a back surgery and is not in top health for a bike ride. It’s mainly stuff like that. Also they said they found his backpack in a park with all the stuff but yet they also somehow found his backpack on him at McDonald’s. Just nothing adds up. They’ve also screwed themselves because there’s already a documentary on HBO MAX about this case and it has unreleased evidence supposedly. (Haven’t watched it, just read it online)
HeavyVoid8@reddit
Which one?
weirdassmillet@reddit
I, for one, am glad a murderer was taken off the streets. It's just a shame Luigi is catching so much heat for it.
HoneyIShrunkMyNads@reddit
I was actually with Luigi eating at Lubys on the morning of December 4th

Are you suggesting that the death penalty should be the punishment for murder?
Begthemeg@reddit
Wild opinion but state sanctioned murder is also bad
TopNeighborhood2694@reddit
Luigi was just exercising his second amendment rights to use a legal firearm to stand up against tyranny and oppression. You got a problem with that move to fucking China
Bcg1523@reddit
When it comes to the people who make life harder for other for profit? Fucking kill them all
barf2288@reddit
Eagle died when Russ left. Haven’t listened since.
deja-roo@reddit
I mean, I'm opposed to the death penalty, but people who aren't opposed to it aren't some super niche, fringe political position.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
It’s more about them hanging on by a thread. They’ve bled listeners. Some people, like myself, have them dialed in on the radio on the off chance they play a song they like.
Otherwise I’m on Bluetooth. But taking it off that station and removing it from my radio actually does hurt them. Because your radio, regardless if it’s in Bluetooth is still “tuned in” as long as that’s the station you’re on.
OneAstroNut@reddit
People listen to the radio?
CeilingUnlimited@reddit
The Ticket running Homeland Security adverts - soooo cringe.
bobsbrain@reddit
Set your preset to 89.3 KNON, they may not always play what you like but at least they aren't 90% commercials and talk radio.
Plus it's nice to have a variety every time I tune in. Blues, Tejano, Outlaw Country, Rock and Metal. Always something new it feels like.
404isfound@reddit
Honestly, the main reason no one listens to the radio anymore is because they only play music thats at least a decade old. Nothing new besides pop shit or whatever. If they played brand new rock, or stuff that wasn't popular 60 years ago, they'd be interesting to listen to.
CoachPetti@reddit
Cry more, just go to a different radio station. No need to post feelings lol
pardonme206@reddit
Lmao
Bro got his feelings hurt over an opinion
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Lol I can do whatever I want. The funny thing is people BEGGING me not to tell people to not listen.
I had a radio rep message me already. It’s too late.
It’s a disgusting position to have and reflects what the owners of the station believe.
Rich people think you need to consume and give them money. That’s all you exist for.
So stfu, die, and listen to us.
Bsclassy@reddit
All he said was you got your feelings hurt over an opinion.
And your response was to tell him to “stfu, die, and listen to us.”
Quite telling.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
That’s what I’m saying the rich think of you, way to go English major
Bsclassy@reddit
Brother you separated the paragraphs. You forced it to have a double meaning. Dont play stupid and act like that wasn’t intentional
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Bye troll
Exanguish@reddit
lol you are serious?
Please share the message from a radio rep begging you not to tell anyone. I’ve never seen such self importance. Lmao
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
He didn’t say they were begging him not to say anything.
pardonme206@reddit
Wow you so brave what a big boy, I’m sure Luigi cares so much about how you feel. You sound like a boomer crying about Fox News
Zhombe@reddit
Any old school cool station died when their functional alcoholic staff either sobered up or died.
Sure_Station9370@reddit
Listening to the radio in 2025 is absolutely wild. Plug in an aux or Bluetooth your shit holy hell.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
I do. This is what I heard when I turned the car on.
You’re not understanding me, I barely listen to radio, this is a preset. It takes about 30seconds for my phone to connect. I just happened to catch this as it was being said.
My car turns on and the radio is sometimes playing. I hope they lose their 3 listeners left.
TXElec@reddit
Lol so what's changing if you didn't listen to them in the first place? They gonna miss your 30 seconds?
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
They’re barely hanging on by a thread. A rep actually reached out to me, it’s that serious apparently.
They just came back. Nobody listens. It’s dying.
A rep reaching out means yes, they absolutely care. And idgaf. Before today, it would maybe be one of two radio stations I have dialed in. Just because I’m listening to Bluetooth doesn’t mean the radio isn’t tuned to that station when Bluetooth unplugs or I swap back for whatever reason.
It still counts in their “views” I don’t have to actively be listening.
Taking it off and never being dialed in again means a lot
fivemagicks@reddit
I don't think I've listened to music radio in DFW since I graduated high school in '08 😂.
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
You’re missing out on a couple of really good indie stations that have started since then. I discover a lot of new music that way.
fivemagicks@reddit
I have my dozens of playlists on Spotify. I'm alright.
Breauxmetheus@reddit
Why can’t people just shut the fuck up about politics and do their jobs? That goes for both sides. We’re sick of it.
CarelessSuspect2110@reddit
A few months ago, I switched over from Alt 103.7 while the commercials were going, and I heard, "we can say that now that Trump is president again." As if anyone was stopping anyone from saying anything while Trump wasn't president. What a fucking moron. I changed the station and won't be putting it on again.

CommonCoast23@reddit
None of the D/FW radio station are as good as they were in the 80's- 90's era, imho
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
This is facts.
They are not who they once were.
The fact of the matter is, radio is dying already and barely hanging on by a thread. I have no idea why they thought this would be okay. It’s not a “haha funny social commentary comment”. It’s disgusting. Even if it’s rage bait, that doesn’t work like that.
ArgumentMean7231@reddit
Damn, who said it? They switched back and forth so much that I stopped listening. 6 hours of talk shows one day, 4 genres of music, another day with 2 hours of talk here and there. They never used to play pop(not that I have an issue with it is just not what I'm used to hearing on there), but last summer they were lol. I also thought the old hosts were removed for getting too political and cussing too much. Towards the end of my listening last summer, they took a few weeks' worth of a break after a really political episode, I know they had to have gotten some calls because they were name dropping, cursing, everything lol.
I'm thinking they got a ratings bump one for saying something, and they've just been poking the bear for content ever since tbh.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Idek it was a new morning radio show I’ve never heard. About 8:30 this morning.
They’ve been struggling to get back into it. I barely listen to radio these days because it’s gone down hill but this was too egregious.
The trail haven’t even begun, a jury hasn’t even been selected. The mayor of that town already received backlash for asking the death penalty. His presumption of innocence till proven guilty is gone. The media thinks they can do this.
It’s a big issue that people think it’s a non-issue, and I stand by everything I’ve said.
If you were just a person who casually listened like me, had a spot on my radio to dial in, remove it and just be done with it. It’s just garbage now.

So you are mad because a DJ has the opinion that a guy who plans a meticulously thought out, premeditated murder deserves the death penalty? Are you against the death penalty absolutely or just in this particular case?
Dallas-ite@reddit
I could care less about the comments made. I'm more annoyed that it went from the only real rock station in town. To this bs soft rock station that seems to focus on 90s and 2000s rock bands number 1 hits. It's like they run a Spotify playlist that only plays bands top 3 hits and nothing else.

The Eagle ain't an airport buddy. Departures don't need to be announced. If you don't like someone getting the consequences of their actions, no matter how righteous you think they are, then you probably need to look at yourself.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Consequences? Innocent till proven guilty
NTXGBR@reddit
He...confessed to it. So...what now?
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)

While the FBI was beating him about the head with old phone books.

flaystus@reddit
I've heard it like....twice.
Once it was a foo fighters song I didn't like so I went to HD2 where the song they were playing ended and a live version of the same foo fighters song played.
The next time everything was from te 90s/2000s and I realized...this is just a classic rock station. There is new shit, they just don't play it.
Now I'm EXTRA careful to not forget my phone even for short drives.
PissantPrairiePunk@reddit
There goes my hero, watch him as he goes…
gentlestofjeremys@reddit
It's been garbage for a while now. Seems like every time I tune in they're covering a sports game, some terrible talk show, or adverting Frankle and Frankle law firm for the billionth time. Where's the music?! I used to listen to them for 80s, 90s, and early 2000s rock, and the RMS.
PieLow3093@reddit
I moved to Austin 20 years ago but came back to the metroplex 3 years back. They play the same music they did before I ever left.

You guys listen to the radio still?...
sydneythasquidney@reddit
WOW. I heard this as well coming into work and had my mouth open as I was listening. I adore Ben and Skin on the ride home (been listening to them since 105.3) so that's why I gave the morning show a chance.
The "take" he had was tone deaf to the bigger picture. Majority of the people around me understand the whole picture (not justifying someone being murdered -however, I see/empathize why Luigi was driven to that point of frustration).
PLUS, I don't want to hear about this shit on the way to work. Especially on 97.1...
I will still listen to Ben and Skin on the ride home 🤷♀️ but I dont think I will be a listener to any of their other shows.
lucki-dog@reddit (OP)
Thank god I’m not the only one. I wanted to call in so bad but I’m just gonna tell everyone not to even give it the time of day. Most people I know were kind of on the “I miss it so I’ll just have it there when I hop around”. After I go into work I guarantee nobody I know is listening anymore.
If this aired, that means the big bosses wanted that out there. Rich people want you dead for even thinking what happened is ok. And that’s all I took from it.
Nothing short of a public apology and public firing of the radio dj would convince me otherwise
robbzilla@reddit
People still listen to radio?
Shivles87@reddit
I used to listen to Mavs games on 97.1 …
keesouth@reddit
I don't listen to the station, so I don't care either way, but that sounds like that's the DJ's opinion and not the stance of the station. Why would you be done with the eagle instead of just not listening to that one DJ
HeavyVoid8@reddit
Bc they put these people on for hours every day?

I can't remember the old dudes name. But I have a feeling he would have been pro manjioni. Just cuz he has a true working class attitude. Then again a lot of heavy Republican ideals so who knows.
But he was always a true conservative.
