NathenJee@reddit
The CRZ 2.0. Because that worked out so well last time.
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit (OP)
This isn't a CR-Z 2.0 at all. The CR-Z was very small and was only a two-seater in the states. It was also slow and nowhere near as efficient.
CactusJ@reddit
Whats this thing going to cost?
Fair_Sweet8014@reddit
Car and Driver says to expect $31k starting, going up to 38k for the top trim.
Ran4@reddit
So, 65k euro then, I guess... hah.
Like the GR Yaris which is like 58k euro. It's absurd.
Fair_Sweet8014@reddit
Damn. What are normal people buying over there with those prices?
I wish we got the GR Yaris in the US. That thing is gorgeous.
Madlazyboy09@reddit
I can see that honestly. Reasonable starting MSRP, and 38k for an AWD version sounds fine.
willpc14@reddit
I'd be shocked if it even had heated seats when you can't even get a Type R with them.
Madlazyboy09@reddit
The Civic Hybrids do have heated seats, so removing them would be an embarrassment.
The Type R not having them, for that price, is unacceptable.
willpc14@reddit
I never looked all that closely at the Civic's line up, but I could have sworn that none of the US Civics got heated. Guess I was wrong.
Signal_Ball4634@reddit
Hopefully not a whole lot more than the Civic hybrid. But given it's a niche car I'm worried they'll price it in the 40's.
bdigital1796@reddit
prelude that costed 33k in '92, to be just 40's in 2025 ?
I needed that laugh.
Vhozite@reddit
Yeah so much of this car is carryover (a good thing) I can’t imagine it being much more expensive than the equivalent Civic.
I suppose Honda or their dealers can try and price it higher than that but I don’t think they’ll see much success.
Bottlely@reddit
For the Americans though, the tariffs might hurt this car.
It's a global model so I expect it to be built in Japan. But I can't imagine Honda building it in the USA too just for that continent.
WendysChiliAndPepsi@reddit
It's being built in Ohio.
Bottlely@reddit
That's a surprise! How'd you know?

ggtsu_00@reddit
I'd be willing to pay the extra for it if it comes in a BHEV or PHEV option.
CactusJ@reddit
Maybe I am weird but I would cross shop this with a Jetta GLI. MSRP on a GLI is $29,310–$33,810.
Hopefully less than $35k
Educational_Age_1333@reddit
I don't see any way this car is sub $30,000 I think that's wishful thinking. If it was under 35 I'd be surprised. I'm thinking it will be 35k starting.
-DeBussy-@reddit
I don't see any way it's under 30, but i don't see it being significantly more than a BRZ or GR86, which are at 31k-35k MSRP. I can see this in that range.
Bombadilo_drives@reddit
I can't imagine this being under $35k with options a person would want.
Fonzdj@reddit
Seeing how the BRZ and GR86 are getting close to $40K, I don’t see this being much cheaper.
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit (OP)
Ran4@reddit
Oof. I hope they haven't made it heavier.
RunninOnMT@reddit
Fun fact: The 350Z did not have matching passenger and driver seats either.
Drzhivago138@reddit
The '98 F-250LD I grew up in had dissimilar driver's and passenger seats, but for a different reason.
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit (OP)
That is interesting. Is it only the bottom seat cushion that doesn't match or does the rest of the seat also differ?
RunninOnMT@reddit
I'm pretty sure it's mostly the bottom cushion, but there may be some slight bolstering differences elsewhere in the seat. Every time i sat in the passenger seat of my old 350Z, i'd look around and be like "this feels super weird"
krombopulousnathan@reddit
That seat design sounds like it would be awesome in a sports car
377ci@reddit
Until you go for a rip with your wife and she swears off riding passenger for life out of fear of being laterally ejecto-seato'd
RecentGas@reddit
I've been with my wife for nearly 20 years at this point, and have learned that she gets too anxious about any sort of spirited driving when she's riding shotgun. Due to that fact, I drive fairly reserved when she's in the passenger seat out respect for her personal comfort.
All that being said, I feel the seating setup would work out well for the two of us. She'd be traveling in comfort while she's the passenger, and when I'm on my own I'd be able to confidently toss it around corners knowing the drivers seat will keep me in place without me having to brace myself from sliding around.
krombopulousnathan@reddit
Haha you think my partner of 7 years still falls for the “oh we’re just taking out the sports car to drive slowly”?
Ghost1k25@reddit
Automatic eye roll when any sort of tunnel is on the horizon
dumahim@reddit
I kind of think the seats should be flipped. The driver has the wheel to grip to while the passenger gets tossed around within the confines of their belts.
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit (OP)
I think they have the right idea. A well supported driver seat for when you’re alone and wanting to throw it into some curves while having a more plush passenger seat for when you go pick up your date later that evening.
unretrofiedforyou@reddit
It’s basically a new ‘personal luxury coupe’ daily driver for the well off Honda buyer that can afford a higher priced coupe that doesn’t want to go to SUVs for their personal transportation but can’t afford a 4 series 🙃
jawnlerdoe@reddit
I could afford a 4 series, I just don’t want one. Too big and bloated to tickle my small car fancy.
Bottlely@reddit
That seat layout sounds really interesting. I wonder if that will be standard or optional.
jawnlerdoe@reddit
I for one am excited about this car.
Civic hybrid drivetrain in a shorter, wider, lighter package, with suspension components from the CTR - evidence this thing will be seriously fun. Should be a fun daily driver for those not looking for a manual.
EnormousGucci@reddit
My only problem with it is the eCVT for a coupe. I’m hoping there’s a Type R version with a manual but I’m not sure if they’d be able to keep it hybrid then.
Ran4@reddit
It's not an eCVT driving the wheels, it's fully electric. The engine is just there to charge the tiny battery for the electric motor.
s0lace@reddit
I’m also excited for it.
I’m also hoping Acura takes the platform, slaps their front end design language on it- and brings back the Acura Legend nameplate.
tri_9@reddit
I have both the new civic hatchback hybrid sport touring and the fl5 type r. I adore both. If this prelude is mashing these two cars together then I won’t know what to do with myself.
SaintTastyTaint@reddit
Seems like the same comments people made about the Integra before it released. This thing will be DOA.
Bottlely@reddit
That doesn't sound right. Upon its reveal, I remember that a lot of people thought the Integra would be way heavier and way overpriced, since it was a 'premium' liftback
stav_and_nick@reddit
Yeah, my wife's civic is very fun for a FWD economy car. If this car has what its rumoured to have, the new AWD \~280 HP hybrid system, then I'm gonna be on it like flies on shit
cilantno@reddit
I really really doubt they’re giving this AWD
Hollow-Ling@reddit
Where'd you hear that rumor?
Bottlely@reddit
At the same time that the Prelude test drives in Japan happened, Honda revealed a Japan-market HR-V prototype featuring the smaller 1.5l hybrid with a rear 50kW e-axle motor borrowed from the upcoming 0 Series EVs.
It's not yet known if the Prelude would get it, but Honda promises that it improves stability and performance. Scroll down to the last few paragraphs.
https://global.honda/en/tech/Honda_eHEV_next_generation/
jawnlerdoe@reddit
I feel like they’re likely saving this for a type R trim.
narcistic_asshole@reddit
This is what I see happening. Almost no way the regular Prelude is going to have it, but I can 100% see a higher performance variant coming out with it
Bottlely@reddit
It might fit the Type S better (if Honda plans to use that badge outside of Acura). I'd go the extra mile and use the 240hp rear EV motor for a Type R.
I just hope Honda doesn't chicken out and block the Prelude from having AWD in any form. Some drivetrain variety could really help to make this car stand out.
baconandtheguacamole@reddit
It'll be Si if it isn't Type R. Type S is indeed for Acura branding only now
michael_is_awesome@reddit
or the classic Prelude Type SH
Bottlely@reddit
I have a feeling that AWD won't come, at least not in the first year, but I hope the newer hybrid system does the sporty part well. Fun hybrid powertrains in attainable cars seem to have been skipped over in the EV race.
Dilderika@reddit
now Honda has my attention....
JJYellowShorts@reddit
this car has nothing fun. FWD, shitty transmission, severly underpowered, and hybrid, which will add more weight. doesn't sound fun at all
unretrofiedforyou@reddit
Really? Exciting ? Cuz what your described just sounds like a big engine option on the accord coupe.
Bottlely@reddit
So many manufacturers have promised to make affordable enthusiast hybrids over the past two decades and then proceed to cancel those plans. I'm happy that at least one manufacturer is gonna try.
caterham09@reddit
Yeah the civic hybrid is already one of the best vehicles on the market today. Putting it in a handsome coupe package and adding suspension from the si/type R is an awesome recipe.
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit (OP)
I think it’ll be interesting if the weight savings alone allows the car to not only accelerate within the high 5 second range but also lifts MPG to Prius levels. The current Civic Hybrid can hit 60 in 6.1-6.2 seconds and is rated at 50 city and 47 highway. The Prius in Limited trim with the larger rims/tires, which is more comparable here, is rated at 52 city and 52 highway.
stav_and_nick@reddit
Welcome back Accord Coupe 1976-2017
But unironically looks nice. Seats are a bit weird, but if they're comfortable and include goodies like ventilated seats I think this'll do okay as the most affordable GT on the market
yobo9193@reddit
You hit the nail on the head; this is a new approach to the classic Grand Tourer. Idk why everyone thinks a 2 door car needs to be a sports car, but my old Genesis Coupe and current 230i are disappointing if you hold them to that standard, since they’re relatively heavy and a bit numb. They both excel at soaking up highway miles in style and (relative) comfort, which is what I love about them.
If the Prelude manages to be as fun to drive as a base civic while being more comfortable and luxurious, it’ll be an excellent car. Whether or not that translates to sales is another topic entirely
Michelanvalo@reddit
I can assure you my GenCoupe does not soak up highway miles in comfort.
yobo9193@reddit
Sounds like a you problem; my 2010 was great
FSUfan35@reddit
The og genesis coupe was not a grand tourer, it was 100% supposed to be a sports car. That's like saying a mustang is a grand tourer
SorbetArtistic7913@reddit
Base mustangs are 100% quite grand tour-ey.
Owned an S197 and S550. Now on a 6th gen Alpha platform. The base mustangs and GTs are NOWHERE NEAR a base 6th gen Camaro when it comes to handling and being a sports car-esque. Pretty soft suspension, no steering feel, plenty of body roll.
As the name suggests a Mustang GT is well a GT. The higher trims/models are much more a sports car though.
This new Civic will handle and steer better than a base Mustang. In fact it will 100% be more sports car than a base Mustang.
SSCyclone@reddit
The new ones are. They're much too heavy and standard options don't allow for handling on accordance with the power given. Same with new Nissan Z.
A lot of consumers think the base version of these cars are the Nismo and GT350 when in fact.....they're not.
The affordable version of the mustang is a GT car (which is still not very affordable).
FSUfan35@reddit
Yes because they've shifted Genesis to being a luxury brand. The first Genesis coupe is not a comfortable ride
SSCyclone@reddit
My apologies I didn't clarify. My original comment was strictly on the mustang. I don't know much about the OG Genesis so I'll take your word for it.
aznvjj@reddit
I have a 2010 Genesis Coupe and a 2021 Mach 1 Mustang, so I can compare. The Mustang blows the GC out of the water in handling. Neither is a "soft" nor "comfortable" ride. I realize that the Mach 1 having the suspension out of a GT350 and basically being track ready stock isn't the best comparison to your typical Mustang, so, perhaps the comparison is unfair to the GC. But, I agree, the GC is not a true sports car. It is sporty and quick and handles well for what it is, but the Mach 1 at, shall we say, more than legal speeds is a hell of a lot more confident than the GC.
yobo9193@reddit
Have you ever driven either? Because neither a Mustang nor a GC are sports cars
FSUfan35@reddit
Yes I've driven both. They're sportier than 99% of cars. The coupe isn't a comfort ride
yobo9193@reddit
A sportier suspension doesn’t make a car a sports car or preclude it from being a grand tourer and
FSUfan35@reddit
A grand tourer is powerful and comfortable. The Genesis coupe was not comfortable
yobo9193@reddit
Agree to disagree
TurboFucked@reddit
Yeah, I had a 2010 R-Spec and that was not a comfortable or nice car. The interior sucked so much and the seats were not good. Which, to be fair, Hyundai marketed it as a cheap drift car.
But it did handle really fucking well after a few choice suspension upgrades. And it was dirt cheap.
hbic@reddit
Accord Coupe absolutely goated tho especially eighth gen North American model
And yes I will join you in suicide if we don’t get the new hybrid system ❤️
dumahim@reddit
You mistyped ninth
Niyeaux@reddit
same car basically, they kept the whole powertrain more or less the same. even the styling is similar enough that i don't even really have a preference (though the 9.5s do look like a newer car if you're into that sort of thing)
hbic@reddit
Not gonna argue with you on that
UnmakingTheBan2022@reddit
Electric Prelude? This is just as bad as the electric Mustang.
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit (OP)
It's not electric, it's a hybrid.
UnmakingTheBan2022@reddit
Oh god no! First the new M5, and now this?! The modern car industry really wants to ruin it for true enthusiasts.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Not sure if serious or jerking...
disposablepresence@reddit
If it can fit a bike in the hatch and tariffs don't make it cost $60k, then this is pretty tempting for me.
Remic75@reddit
Finally, a Honda coupe after almost 3 years. I’m actually glad they’re taking the “dedicated coupe” path instead of the usual “sedan with 2 seater variant” path.
BioDriver@reddit
Not the least it surprised the interior is heavily inspired by the Civic. Honda seems to have that be their universal interior design language, and I like it.
Very happy to see the architecture changes. Tempting me to trade in my Giulia, especially if Stellantis keeps up with their fuckhousery
Beekatiebee@reddit
If I end up in the financial position to do so I’d trade my TTS for one, tbh. I don’t live somewhere that lets me make use of the 300HP.
Unfortunately it did depreciate like a rock fired out of a cannon towards the bottom of a lake.
italia06823834@reddit
What fuckhousery? I've been looking at lightly used Giulias as I finally am approaching a point in my life the having a Miata as my only car is becoming impractical.
Independent-Win-4187@reddit
Yeah don’t know how you do it. I have an ND3 miata as a second car. Can’t do nothing but go on the best drives of my life.
italia06823834@reddit
I've managed so far on mainly not needing to ever really carry more than a few grocery bags, carry-on sized luggage/backpack, etc.
I've heard the '21 and newer Giulias aren't bad (at least the non-QV ones). But the early model years had lots of software issues.
Shot_Lynx_4023@reddit
I like what I see. Unfortunately, this car isn't for me. ADHD means I require 3 pedals to stay engaged. Definitely going to test drive one. As I did previously when shopping. Don't know if you can't live with it, if you don't try it.
Maybe the MPG numbers will persuade my thinking

Uh, I genuinely don't understand why that comment is being downvoted. OP prefers a manual and is interested and willing to try something else. Ok, right on!
Re: your what I assume is somewhat joking comment about manual superiority, what happens if I drive both? Am I scum some of the time and cool some of the time, or just like some weird half-scum-half-bro sort of creature?
Shot_Lynx_4023@reddit
2 of my 3 cars have a manual Transmission. #3 is a 4 speed automatic. It's a 1997 Ford Thunderbird V8, and was only available as an automatic. People get so upset, when transmission choices are discussed, even when I say, "hey, I own an automatic, and have had a few AT cars."
Some cars, are Better as an automatic. A Rolls Royce for example, definitely better with 2 pedals.

This car reminds me of the Toyota Paseo. That was my first car I owned, bought used for $1000 while I was in high-school and I loved it.
coyote_of_the_month@reddit
No manual option kills it for me.
ggtsu_00@reddit
Manual mode will be software DLC.
Kashtin@reddit
Also, like, why the fuck is it FWD??
coyote_of_the_month@reddit
You mean like every iteration of the Prelude before it?
-SUBW00FER-@reddit
Because it’s cheaper, that’s pretty much it
RunninOnMT@reddit
Yeah, i want RWD but will compromise on that if a car is good enough. I don't think i can compromise on the transmission if "driving for fun" is one of the primary use cases for a car.
coyote_of_the_month@reddit
I actually like FWD performance cars. I like knowing that the solution to my oversteer is "send it harder."
RunninOnMT@reddit
Yeah, i don't mind FWD, but truth be told on the street you can't really "send it harder" unless you have more skills/bravery than me. I'm typically at 8/10ths or below on the street if i'm trying to have fun on an abandoned back road. (And to be fair 7-8 tenths works with any drivetrain configuration)
But...I will sometimes send it on an onramp with a little bit of extra throttle for a dab of oppo. Doing the equivalent in FWD just requires SO much more commitment.
I also live in Seattle. Back in the day with 140 lb-ft FWD wheel spin in a straight line wasn't really an issue. These days with boost and the associated torque of those units, putting power down regularly on the wet streets here is legitimately an issue. The streets are damp well over half the year here and FWD just isn't ideal in the modern automotive landscape.
A great car is a great car though. And ultimately FWD doesn't get in the way of me actually engaging with the car that much. Yes, annoying wheelspin and no power oversteer, but i'm happy to overlook such things for an engaging enough driving experience.
Bottlely@reddit
Unsurprised that few want to take that risk in our current automotive climate. We can only hope that Toyota follows through on their hybrid manual GRs and may influence others to try.
six_six@reddit
Yup, I told the Honda rep at the LA Auto Show the same thing.
WendysChiliAndPepsi@reddit
I think a lot of people don't realize this has the same suspension as the Type R (the front is unique vs other civics) and has the transmission logic from the NSX. This isn't just a Civic Coupe or a new CRZ.
imeantolive@reddit
How will the new Prelude have transmission shift logic from the NC1 NSX if it won't have Aura's bespoke 9-Speed DCT?
SPorterBridges@reddit
Wow, I was worried between their boring current lineup, the expensive & gimmicky Afeela and whatever art school student project they've got going on with the 0 Series, Honda was losing it. But this is a winner.
Hollow-Ling@reddit
Looks to be a very promising sporty daily. I just hope it handles really well and accelerates well. Also, given how unusable the rear seats look, I would have an excuse on not driving more than one person around 🤣
s0lace@reddit
Where have there been pictures of the backseat?
Hollow-Ling@reddit
Surprised, the article didn't have one, anyways here's a YT video of a journalist poking around the inside of it, and he sat back there.
https://youtu.be/oLo-KMqSF6U?si=QgykLX-O-X9r_IDT
s0lace@reddit
Great video thanks for sharing!
For my purposes, the backseat just needs to fit my yellow lab : )
JJYellowShorts@reddit
it will do neither
TadCat216@reddit
The civic has a pretty nice interior and drives fairly nicely—my only gripe is that outside of the type R it’s pretty sluggish. I’d def be interested in this if it is just a little bit quick.
Madlazyboy09@reddit
I've read that its supposed to weight less than 3000lbs, which would be about 250lbs less than the civic hybrid. The civic hybrid has ~6.2s 0-60, so I'm hoping that this is a sub 6s 0-60.
Really hoping there is an AWD version.
WatchStoredInAss@reddit
Coupes are a big "fuck you" to any rear-seat passengers.
justcuckmyshitupfam2@reddit
That hunt and peck shifter is from the Odyssey lol. But having that type opens up a lot of space in the center console.
QLDZDR@reddit
Short nose NSX?
binkobankobinkobanko@reddit
This may replace my 2013 Accord Coupe V6 if it is actually good (and if my Accord ever dies, which I hope it won't).
Sweaty_Bretty@reddit
If you were expecting this to be more than a civic hybrid sport trim coupe and then a civic Si trim that will eventually be soon to follow… idk what to tell you.
Vhozite@reddit
It’s not still April 1st where you are right? Where did you hear about this?
Sweaty_Bretty@reddit
Sure. I saw it here:
https://autopostglobal.com/offbeat-qotd/article/47792/
Downvoted because CTR, ITS owners don’t want to hear the truth that they paid stupid money for a fancy civic with some race parts. The crown always has and always will be the S2000s and NSXs. They are Hondas true halos. If you don’t understand that I can’t help you.
gothicserp3nt@reddit
Tbh sounds like you're inventing a fake argument. Who is out there arguing their CTR/ITS are halo cars? Prelude fans really only seem to like them for the nostalgia factor from the era of coupes they came from. Never heard anyone tout them as capable sports cars
Lastly that s2k "rumor" has so little credibility it's not even worthy of being called a rumor. Ironic since you talk about hearing truths. These random car blog/"news" sites likely pay their "journalists" on an articles/week basis. They're just filling their quota. I'd bet you the spike in "new s2k" rumors coincided with the evasive project that used a CTR engine to make an s2k "type r"
Bottlely@reddit
I don't wish to be combative, but I honestly think the downvotes stem from you believing that the S2000 will come back.
Those images are made by an AI artist on Instagram, basically no different from Photoshop clickbait from the pre-AI era. No professional auto journalism paper would use such images for official news or exclusive scoops unless they were specifically commissioned. Additionally, the article claims Honda confirmed the S2000's return, but it doesn't provide any source - no statement from which exec, no press material, etc. Not even BestCarWeb has been making articles about an S2000 revival. All in all, there's just too many red flags here.
The Prelude was literally always positioned as that, except it was based on the Accord Coupes. Heck, even that's a moot point ever since the Accord moved to the Civic platform since the 10th Gen, so the Prelude being an Accord coupe is still true by technicality.
Everyone is excited because the Civic Hybrid has proven itself to be a fun commuter car, and the available information tells us that the Prelude could be a hybrid Si. It might even be a hybrid TT-S from Japan. No one is pretending that it's gonna be an 86 killer, let alone an S2000 replacement
Vhozite@reddit
lol this is exactly why I like it. I love the Audi TT but I’m poor
Bottlely@reddit
IKR? Hot take, but there should've been a front-drive TT-S.
I know Audi sold an S-line in Europe and Oceania that essentially uses the manual Golf GTi powertrain. Fun car from what I've heard. And there was a 300HP TTS club car series that used solely FWD. Audi could've sold their own Integra Type-R if they borrow stuff from the Golf Clubsports.

If an S2K was happening for MY26 you'd already know about it by now from Honda, not some random rumor website you found online.
BraveFencerMusashi@reddit
If I absolutely have to buy a new car in the next couple years, it will probably be this or a Civic hatch hybrid.
SubjectRevenues@reddit
I'm proud of Honda, they finally realized you can make an interior with more than just black plastic! Though, with their discovery of the color gray, I'd hope they'd maybe one day discovery more colors.
testthrowawayzz@reddit
The catch could be they also lock the interesting interior colors to certain exterior colors only and then barely produce those combinations.
waterbed87@reddit
If I hadn't bought my TLX this would've been pretty high on my list. Very different types of cars but seeing Honda bring back a modern coupe is just so enticing. I drove Honda coupes for years and loved every one of them.
Enough-Scientist1904@reddit

JJYellowShorts@reddit
not a sports car
Outrageous_Calendar4@reddit
Anyone know if it will come with a moonroof? The old one had it but all of the videos I’ve seen so far has not had one on and I’m starting to get worried lol
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit (OP)
I don't think it will. It looks like saving weight and having a lower center of gravity are the priorities for it which would mean no sunroof. Should also be noted that many sport coupes do not offer one either.
Outrageous_Calendar4@reddit
Yeah that’s a fair point. I was just hoping it would be an option but I think you are right on the money with that.
DocPhilMcGraw@reddit (OP)
Also one giveaway that it probably with 95% certainty won't be offered with one is if you look at the roof. You'll see that it is aerodynamically sculpted - has the outer parts bulged up while the middle is lowered. The very few coupes that are offered with a sunroof do not have an aerodynamic roof like that - they're just flat.
Plus, the Prelude is a hatchback too which would also mean the chances of a sunroof are very low - although they could still technically offer a fixed glass roof as a hatch.
Outrageous_Calendar4@reddit
Great observation and makes total sense. Hopefully it’s fast enough to back up its aerodynamic profile 😂
defund_aipac_7@reddit
This thing is going to be a total flop.
bindermichi@reddit
so just a Civic with a coupe bodystyle
MaroonIsBestColor@reddit
I hope it eventually gets an Si or Type R version with a manual.
tbone747@reddit
I do like how they got rid of the cheese grater going across the entire dashboard. The center stack looks pretty Acura-ish with those buttons, and in general everything looks a little more premium than the Civic.
One thing I'd like to see is ventilated seats here, especially if they end up pricing this higher than the equivalent Civic Hybrid.
doobi1908@reddit
Shares the same interior style with 8 or 9 other Honda/Acura cars
pq11333@reddit
Looks eh 40% similar to the civic interior. the honda interiors are great, knobs and buttons. No complaints really
Illustrious-Monk9227@reddit
