The birds are back in MN, I woke up to a blue jay hollering outside my window today. I also have been having some excellent labor organization conversations at work. I'm part of the nurse's union, but there's about a gazillion hospital jobs not covered by any union and that ought to change. Fortunately, the imaging techs I see in my ER are very amenable to the idea, so who knows. Maybe it'll be something.

Feels like some NPCs are waking up to what’s going around us and the world. Kinda need everyone to pitch in their attention to the general idiocy we’ve been living in. That goes beyond politics. Just been hearing a lot of normies focus on living more self sufficiently. Maybe you should learn to cook some things. Maybe you should start having a few weeks of extra food around.
My buddy was very open to holding onto a Meshtastic device, just in case he would need to reach me. Shit really could hit the fan. 😂

Canada is substantially more unified now than it was a couple months ago. Carney is proving to be an effective and smart leader. He's completely turned the party around.
My radical socialist heart doesn't trust him or like him but my pragmatic brain knows this is an all hands on deck situation and how bad the best case scenario will be. He's center right economically with Obama social policy but he knows how severe the threats are right now. He's bringing a lot of the uniformed over in a sort of way Obama did. He appeals to moderate conservatives because he is an actual one in the way that counts most for them. The actual religious conservative patriotic Canadians who don't want to see their ideological opponents hanged.
But he's appealing to the left by promising to build social housing. That is desperately needed and wasn't being advocated for really by any mainstream politician. He's a centrist FDR which is better than a far right no value dork who is just begging to capitulate to Trump. And he's good in front of the camera. Not Trudeau good but good enough.
When fascism is on the rise it's all hands on deck. This is pretty likely the tipping point for us as a species. Everyone needs to get on board now.

I Ll be curious to see how he works on the housing. I know it’s a problem in Canada. It’s actually been a problem everywhere due to COVID . It raised the prices of affordable housing everywhere
ButcherPetesWagon@reddit
Well he's the only one talking about building public housing so I'll take it.

Also Canadian and I agree with this sentiment. It's nice to see all this national unity (and solidarity with countries like Greenland). Even the Quebecois are fired up, I love it.
It's also nice to see all the far right cynicism being drowned out in favour of a more positive and optimistic message.

Geese are back. The local wildlife reserve was full of them. It's good to see birds back. Saw a robin the other day too.
I can't wait for warm weather.

People are growing their own food and sharing tips for success. In general people are sharing ways to succeed. The support is heartwarming and we are all going to need it.

Birds have returned.
YesacYelsnit@reddit
We've been sharing excess food and resources in our neighborhood as of late, since the cost of food has risen exponentially. It's nice to see people still helping out others in bad times, gives me some hope.
SkillIcy3516@reddit
Say more ! How are you doing that exactly. I’d like to do that too
gyanrahi@reddit
Are you in the US?
YesacYelsnit@reddit
Yep

Same although I am not born here. I think one thing that Americans underestimate is how much they pull together when there is some adversity (from the big things like Pearl Harbor to local storms and so on). When shtf people actually help each other which is not true for some parts of the world.

A few weeks ago I commented about ordering a cargo bike, it arrived last week and my kids are loving it! I did a six mile round trip up a ton of hills with pedal assist turned to max and it barely ate a quarter of my battery, even with the bike loaded down with kids.
SkillIcy3516@reddit
What is a cargo bike ? Sounds fun

I saw a pair of Snow Geese.

There's still beautiful places to visit and see for little to no cost! I just discovered a botanic garden near me that I go to on the weekend to decompress.

The snow has finally been melting enough that I've been able to walk the property and check out how all the new plants we put in are doing. All of them are showing new growth and buds so it looks like everything made it through the winter aside from two grape plants that we were sort of worried about to begin with because the lawn guys hit them right near the end of the summer. All of the other new fruit trees and bushes are looking great, though, and some of the garlic and tulip bulbs are already starting to sprout.

Just got my first cutting of asparagus this year. In years past, something had been eating the new shoots to the ground before I could get them. So last year I built a hardware cloth cage around them with access doors on all sides and it worked! The shoots are for me now! Soooo delicious!
Honest_Persimmon_859@reddit
Nice! I've been putting off planting asparagus for the last 2 years because I can't decide where I want to plant it. This is the year that I just pick a spot and put it in the ground.

You won’t be sorry! After trying several types, I recommend Millenium crowns from Johnny’s. They’re available a few other places too. But they’ve been much more vigorous than the Jersey giant, Mary Washington, or other ones I tried. Either way, hope all your gardening is a great success!

The sun is out in Ireland..and it's not going rain for the rest of the week!!!! I've been getting out doing my gardens and figuring out where I'm going to put raised bed to start growing vegetables and where I'm going to plant fruit trees.

It’s more of what I am NOT seeing that is good news. No announcements of US troop mobilization other than prior scheduled well published rotations. I would hope any serious discussion about involvement with Iran would require large scale preparations as we saw in Desert Storm. My best guess is that it is a way to relieve the Ukrainians of Iranian equipment sent to Russia if they are dealing with their own security while also appeasing Israel as it splits the Iranian focus. It also happens to lessen Iranian commitment to Yemen. All theoretically of course.

I'd like to add, that I'm glad that we're not hearing or seeing any of our US Military moving into the Taiwan Strait with all the bs going on with China threatening Taiwan this past week.

We had very few flooding events this year in Québec. The last few years saw some deadly flooding events and landslides.
It seems that despite having had a really fast snow melting period and heavy rains, the rivers were able to absorb the extra water.
We're stepping into a freezing rain event starting this evening and possibly lasting up to 48 hours, so I expect many power outages. Hoping it will be okay.

In our county, there is a real push this spring for everyone to start some form of food garden. Also working with a lot of our schools to begin a real focus on local food for the cafeterias, especially seafood. The local agricultural society is also doing a series on how to start a self sufficient homestead, free to members and families.

My library has stepped up with better exhibits, activities, talks, features. You name it they are on the front lines of information and relief.

Spring has come to North Carolina. The trees are budding and blooming and there are pollinators absolutely everywhere!
Wonderful to observe the busy, happy bees about the cherry and dogwood trees!
