Those are the two movies they chose for that caption? I mean, Top Gun was a given but that Batman movie was awful. He has like dozens of movie roles better AND more famous than that
I don't know how true it is but there's a story that the surviving members of The Doors had trouble telling him singing the songs vs. Jim Morrison. Wouldn't surprise me in the least, he just became that character.
My favorite of his though is Doc Holliday in Tombstone.
Tombstone was the first thing I thought of when I heard he'd died, other than the obvious appearance of him dying from throat cancer in Top Gun.
It was like the first movie that popped up on whatever streaming service. He is just incredible in that movie along with the rest of the cast. But he really takes the whole movie to another level.
Very sobering as well. Having his character pass away, due to the same health struggle he experienced in real-life...it felt, in a way, like preparation for this very day. Given the extent of his health struggles, one may argue this was highly likely...it's just very unusual to have it illustrated, even if it's through a character he's depicting.
When I first saw his photo on this thread with the accompanied RIP, I had to do a second glance and make sure that Mel Torme didn't resurrect and come back to life, only to die again. LOL
"Work work work, moles and trolls. I'm just trying to have some fun! But no one showed up to the mutant hamster races and we had one entry to the Madame Curie lookalike contest, and he was disqualified later. Why do I bother?'
We had a F16 driver who, for his going away, asked our unit to recreate the volleyball scene, right down to jeans, aviators and dog tags. Top Gun is legendary even in the Air Force.
More stories- During our naming ceremony, our commander wrote down Maverick and Ice Man, then immediately crossed them off, just to crush our dreams of having a cool call sign.
Thinking about going to a sand court this weekend to play-sans shirt, of course.
When everyone idolized Maverick, I idolized Iceman. The calm, by the book guy who doesn’t showboat unnecessarily. He was the representation of a professional pilot for me…and a cool guy (no pun intended).

In a movie with both De Niro and Pacino, Kilmer had his best scene-stealing boots on.

People forget about his role as Doc Holiday in Tombstone.

Yeah it was really touching. I could tell I wasn’t the only one tearing up in the theater at those moments.

I will always remember "Top Secret". It was his first film. And then there's this dialog from "Real Genius":

Top Secret is probably my favorite movie of his.

Real Genius is an incredible film. So funny and quotable.
Professor Hathaway: That's a wonderful story, Bodie. I noticed you've stopped stuttering.
Bodie: I've been giving myself shock treatments.
Professor Hathaway: Up the voltage.
