Degausing a Xerox CRT

I'm borrowing a monitor for my Xerox 6085 Daybreak. There was some distortion at the edges of the picture - a quick zap with the degaussing ring helped!

I’ve never heard of degaussing a (I assume we’re looking at a) monochrome monitor - always color. Usually the shadow mask on the front of the color CRT is the thing that needs demagnetized. Looking at your monitor it appears the horizontal linearity may be off due to drifting values of or leaky capacitors. Unless I’m totally wrong about the way your monitor is constructed. Either way, glad it helped.

Yup this is a monochrome display. It could use a cap job for sure - it's all original. What I'm degausing here is the mounting band and shielding of the monitor. It was slightly magnetized.
