Gas Prices???

Did people in other parts of Dallas just get an absolutely ABSURD jump in gas prices around them? I was visiting a friend for like 3 hours and it was 2.70'ish when I went in and every station was showing 3.09 when I was on my way home...
trimondo_blondomina@reddit
I’m talking out my butt here, but I believe gas prices usually go up in the “warmer” months. It usually is about 10 percent or so.
Here is a cool article explaining why. I have a co worker who used to work for a gas station. Gas stations usually don’t make a profit at all on gas.
omgfloofy@reddit (OP)
Like, I get going up in price. They were 2.89 a few days ago. I only know the price as well as I do because I stopped to top off when I saw it come down to 2.69 (nice??) at a filling station near me yesterday.
It's just that my flabbers are gasted over a 40 cent jump in 3 hours.
Substantial-Ad-8575@reddit
Gasoline is a commodity. Have seen 30-40 cent swings in same day going on 20 plus years. Highest swing was Hurricane Harvey and Beryl. Causing price increases due to refineries closed/damaged.
This price increase due to switch in additives for summer fuel. Price will start dropping as supply increases, more refineries completing yearly change of formula.
Internal-Earth297@reddit
I figured since more people are driving electric cars, the prices would go down, if you believe the summer additive bs, then I have a car I'll sell you that runs on pure hopes and dreams
omgfloofy@reddit (OP)
I figure as much, but even in this case, it felt surreal to me because it was like... I didn't see a single gas station below 3.09 until I got to a certain point and that gas station still used the old school numbers, and not a digital read out.
I live by one, and I've seen some pretty drastic swings day by day, but I can guarantee that I'll be able to drive down the street and see a different price a little further off the beaten path. This was absolutely not the same kind of situation.
ThenImprovement4420@reddit
I paid $2.54 in my small town about 30 minutes Northeast of McKinney this evening. It's been around that price for months now. Yeah the 3.09 was crazy when I was in Dallas today
Substantial-Ad-8575@reddit
One item to remember is that gas stations in close proximity will match its competitors. So if one sees a change in price, it may go up to match. I have Valero, 7-11, Indy Chevron one way and Kroger, Indy Shell, 7-11, QT other way. If one goes up, they seem to match within an hour.
7-11 seems to be cheapest. But I prefer Kroger as use CC to always get 50 cents off or use app and earn points to get up to $1 off.
omgfloofy@reddit (OP)
I think the most reliable one for me in my area when prices start to climb is a Murphy Express near me. But they still have the old marquee style sign, so I doubt that they're going to change as fast, especially since the numbers are huge and those things are a pain in the ass to change out.
I tend to just stray to Tom Thumb for the points off that I get, too. I don't have a Kroger that close to me.
Substantial-Ad-8575@reddit
Yeah, check Costco if you have membership. Pass 3 on my work drive.
But yeah, mentioned to neighbor. He saw $3 in Dallas heading his way home to Coppell.
Kayakingtheredriver@reddit
What was the reason for the 50c increase last week then. Because I heard last weeks increase was because of the fuel switch.
Substantial-Ad-8575@reddit
No idea, was in Miami for UMF. Can check broker-spot market reports tho.
SOTX-Pitbull-33@reddit
Actually, it's wall street specultors. Especially when prices fluctuate due to political moves & such, which has nothing to do with weather.
cletusbob@reddit
Gas Station owners set their own prices.
tristand666@reddit
They change the blend every Spring and the prices go up because refineries are offline to change blends. This happens every year.
HeavyVoid8@reddit
That’s what happens when the new truck load of gas comes in
lifegoeson5322@reddit
Yep, it's happened as long as I can remember. They get you right before the summer so that any long road trips hurt!!
mahsimplemind@reddit
I dislike maga as much as anybody. But you're right, gas prices are cyclical. It's confirmation bias until gas is 4.00+.
Lobito6@reddit
Dallas already has stations with $4+ a gallon for 93 ...
mahsimplemind@reddit
I'm using octane 87 as point of reference to stay in tune w/ OP. And I'm not talking about outliers. If you Google gas prices rn in Dallas the great majority are 2.70 - 3.10 for octane 87, which isn't crazy compared to what we were paying a year ago.
I can imagine the conservatives were in their echo chambers for the last 4 years saying the exact same thing. Reddit is just one big echo chamber.
Comfortable-Study-69@reddit
Yeah, I mean if we want to talk about really obvious things the GOP’s tariff hikes are going to jack up the prices of, lots of groceries but especially highly imported things with fast turnover like fruit and beer are going to be hit hardest and fastest. Obviously there’s bigger stuff down the road like cars and housing, but those take time to see changes in.
WigglingWeiner99@reddit
When this happened last year I thought they might be trying to profit off all the tourists in for the solar eclipse. They probably were, but either way it did jump quite a bit just before April 8th of last year.
Heavy-Mettle@reddit
Homie, it's the tariffs. We've been telling people for weeks this was coming by April 2nd, and guess what today is?
Jrag538@reddit
same here up in McKinney, fucking ridiculous
stvntckr@reddit
It’s 3.09 everywhere which is weird as shit lol
The-Architect-93@reddit
Trump will tell you Biden did it.
omgfloofy@reddit (OP)
Get those "I did that!" stickers ready. LOL
(Replace Biden with Trump on them to make people tilted.)
StandardObservations@reddit
Those stickers should also be used in grocery stores next to the eggs
andersvix@reddit
I have some if you need some!
shitposter69-1@reddit
I basically never leave my house (disabled, not explaining further), but I'd go out of my way if you passed some my way.
omgfloofy@reddit (OP)
I might take you up on that offer!
Substantial-Ad-8575@reddit
Costco at $2.69 this evening. Kroger at $2.79 before 50 cent Kroger CC discount or Kroger app discount up to $1 off…
FujitsuPolycom@reddit
I'm not a Costco member or Kroger? Because things can be discounted in some way doesn't mean prices didn't go up? That said, they always trend up this time of year. It's simply demand as Spring rolls in.
Dry-Comfortable-7980@reddit
Tariffs everything is about to get very very very expensive
Zealousideal_Cost425@reddit
Around Mesquite, We had just gone down to 2.22\~2.39 and now we're back up to 2.70\~3.01.
rolypoly817@reddit
Tanking it on purpose
Tasty_Two4260@reddit
Felon did it!! Yeah, ⛽️ up at least $0.50 overnight! 😡
malicious-turd@reddit
Maybe you should go to a different gas station, I just filled up and it was less than that for 93
AdmiralSnackbar816@reddit
Operation Tariff hard at work.
Cricket2495@reddit
Yup! I filled up for 2.65/gal and then on my way home I noticed gas everywhere had gone up to 3.09. I usually fill up at Walmart. Going again tonight, wish me luck. I'm in Collin County.
Outrageous_Ratio6701@reddit
Nico. Nico caused this too!
IntrovertExplorer_@reddit
Back in my day the highest it would go was $1.95. Oh how I miss those days…
Captain_Wobbles@reddit
I love seeing older post apocalyptic movis/shows where their idea of absurd prices were $4-5.
TRH100@reddit
Be glad we're in Texas. It's cheaper here than anywhere else in the US due to our proximity to the refineries.
MysteryMooseMan@reddit
Weird, yesterday I filled up at $2.70/gal
Extension_Morning368@reddit
Yesterday earlier in the day I swear I saw like 2.68 driving to work at 711 and said I'm for sure getting gas when I head home. Went back to the same 711 later and it was like 3.05...
WarderWannabe@reddit
Fasten your seatbelts folks. “Liberation Day” or whatever that fat Cheeto is calling it is going to make these prices increases look like a tiny blip.
Keep_Plano_Corporate@reddit
You could always buy an electric car.
My electric rate was 14.1 cents all in yesterday and also today.
I hear you can get a good deal on a Tesla. Just tell everyone on Reddit you bought a Hyundai EV.
damnsuredidbob@reddit
Gasoline prices in Texas have recently increased due to a combination of seasonal factors and geopolitical developments.
Seasonal Factors:
• Transition to Summer-Blend Gasoline: Refineries are shifting to produce summer-blend gasoline, which is formulated to reduce evaporation during warmer months. This blend is more expensive to produce, leading to higher prices at the pump.
• Refinery Maintenance: Spring is a typical period for refinery maintenance, which can temporarily reduce gasoline production and contribute to price increases.
Geopolitical Developments:
• Implementation of Energy Tariffs: The U.S. administration has imposed a 10% tariff on energy imports from Canada and Mexico as of early March 2025. Given that the U.S. imports significant amounts of crude oil from these countries, these tariffs can lead to increased costs for refiners, which may be passed on to consumers in the form of higher gasoline prices.
t’s important to note that while these factors are currently influencing gasoline prices, the energy market is dynamic. Future developments, such as changes in crude oil production levels by major producers like OPEC+ or adjustments to trade policies, could further impact prices.
im-buster@reddit
Yep I noticed most stations around $3.09. after I pulled out of Sam's where it was $2.51.
lukesassypants@reddit
Did Sam complain when you did that?
Outrageous_Bad3465@reddit
Tariffs just kicked in !! Brace yourselves!!
Bobloblaw_333@reddit
I moved back to California and it’s $4.65 at my local Costco for 87 octane. Plus we only get 91 octane. I miss DFW!
MissyxAlli@reddit
Coming from SoCal, love the gas prices here!
cletusbob@reddit
$2.69 Gun Barrel City
OopsIHadAnAccident@reddit
Yes. Noticed the same thing. Happened to fill both vehicles up last night for around $2.65/gal. Today it’s $3.09. Wild
BabyBearMan@reddit
I'm sure it has nothing to do with the upcoming tariffs that are going into effect. Seems everytime the Cheeto makes one of those moves, there's a quick jump.
Matador972@reddit
Could be the sudden switch from winter blend to summer blend gas. Toward the end of the season the outgoing seasonal formula drops in price.
burn469@reddit
It’s $2.62 where I filled up.
ReefLedger@reddit
I live across from a gas station. $2.72 when I left for work, $3.02 by the time I got home. You're spot on.
Antique_Key_4939@reddit
Summer blend
akm1111@reddit
Yeah. I got gas this morning before 10am. $2.69
Tonight on our way home (11pm) it was $3.09
And those are Arlington/Mansfield numbers.
yellowsun_97@reddit
$3.19
e92izzy@reddit
I heard Mexico stopped fuel exports to US recently, this would add to the price increase. Can anyone confirm?
satchel65@reddit
I noticed that QuikTrip went up to $3.09just before lunchtime. I needed gas and passed by the QT and drove down to a Valero to fill up for $2.65. Smaller stations take longer to change prices. QT can change their prices remotely and instantly.
maddjointz@reddit
QTs are like a beacon for me to fill up because there's one catty corner from the station I usually use and he gives me a heads up when stuff is about to spike, was able to get a half tank at 2.69 today after work
PointBlankCoffee@reddit
In FW as well, jumped about 50 cents everywhere near me
Cold_Coffee_504@reddit
The problem in DFW with gas prices is QT. They will be the first to raise prices before anyone else, and the other stations will follow suit. At times there are no changes in the price of crude at all and QT will raise the prices proactively. It's almost as if HQ says "we haven't made enough on gas this month, let's hike it $.30 a gallon"! Then 2 days later they drop it back down. Watch it next time. QT is the driving force in this market.
omgfloofy@reddit (OP)
Actually, I've seen the other way around here. There's a RaceTrac near me and I'll see it shoot up in price, then I can drive to a QT down the street and get it at the old price before they change it, too.
spenstav@reddit
But 711 gave me 30¢ off. What a deal!
madobe-san@reddit
In Irving here. I noticed $3.09 today. What is going on? I don’t think gas was much pricer last year in April 2024
v4luble@reddit
A 40 cent increase is a big hike to you? It’s not.
omgfloofy@reddit (OP)
It's not even price itself that surprised me, but you do you, I guess.
Mynameisdiehard@reddit
Yep. They were 2.70 yesterday. 3.09 when I drove by the same station today. I also did a double take and started gaslighting myself thinking I had read it wrong yesterday.
StronglyHeldOpinions@reddit
You voted for this.
omgfloofy@reddit (OP)
You can't blame me. I voted for Harris.
StronglyHeldOpinions@reddit
In that case my sincerest apologies to you sir/madam.
omgfloofy@reddit (OP)
It's all good. We just gotta put up the good fight to keep what rights and other things we need. 💗
IVIauricius@reddit
Yup. GOP keeps gaslighting about prices dropping and I have no idea where that is. Must be a small town next to a refinery.
Skateboardbeester@reddit
That’s crazy. I just filled up yesterday at HEB for 2.69
gibbyhikes@reddit
$2.37 by me this morning. $2.67 this evening. Not as bad as the weird .60 jump a couple of weeks ago, shot up to $2.97.
Also I think this Murphys by me is an anomaly as all others were around the $2.65 mark all weekend.
Tiiimmmaayy@reddit
Are all gas stations around here owned by the same people?? I’ve noticed literally every single one around me in Lewisville/The Colony all change their prices at the exact same time and same price. And yes, just saw the gas stations across the street from me changed to $3.09 as I was walking my dog.
Just weird how they are always the same. Everywhere else outside of Dallas have at least a few cent difference in prices.
Back_To_The_Green@reddit
The places around me are still all under $2.70. $2.59 at Costco.
Dynamic_Duo_215@reddit
Got hit with a 3.79 the other day
MetalAngelo7@reddit
lmfao I just got back from California and it’s $4.10 we don’t know high gas prices if it sat on our face
omgfloofy@reddit (OP)
As I've said elsewhere here, it's not the price that shocked me, but the spam of time for the jump.
I talked with a friend in CA who said that they had a jump but not as extreme as what I saw today.
fureinku@reddit
Just because its higher somewhere else doesnt mean that its not higher here than it was 4 hrs ago. What the hell
MetalAngelo7@reddit
$3 for gas is high?
Alpheas@reddit
The yo-yo of gas prices has been going on for the last 2 years. It started when we were a little over 3 bucks. It'd go down to 2.90 then bounce up (usually right before my payday) to 3.30. It's been going down the last year, but it still goes down to something like 2.60 then jump up to 2.90. Nor surprises here. Last week I got it for 2.60 before the Kroger station opened up and saw 2.90 on my wa to work. Got lucky there.
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
Right? It's definitely been an ongoing thing. Very weird, I wonder what's behind it. I'm used to gas prices gradually rising and falling but these days it seems like it just shoots right up or down.
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
lol I noticed this too. 7-Eleven on Hampton and Illinois was at like $2.79 when I drove by around noon. Passed another 7-Eleven not too far around 5 PM and it was up to $3.09!

DFWGrovite@reddit
I'm now living east of the metroplex (Hunt County). A few Thursdays ago, I filled up in the evening at $2.38/gal. The next morning, gas had jumped to $2.50-something. During my drive home, it had jumped to $2.83....and stayed there for a solid week. My only advice is that if gas is lower than $2.55, fill up (during the near future).
curiosity_2020@reddit
I saw a similar increase at the local Kroger in Allen. Could be getting ahead of tariffs or switch to summer blend or oil increase due to the threat to force shutdown of Russian oil or we are just catching up to prices in rest of the country.
In other words, there's a lot going on these days.
randomjeepguy157@reddit
I was going to post the same thing. It was $2.69 yesterday and today it’s $3.09. What the heck? I wish I would have filled up yesterday!
JKSND@reddit
I was just in Houston and filled up for $2.49 then got here today and was shocked to see $3.19!
