Northrop flies the last airworthy tristar
Beahner@reddit
Wow…..that’s utterly fantastic!

Seems that the L-1011 isn’t airworthy anymore, which is a shame. Instead, it’s owned by KC Aviation STEM and operated as a “STEM classroom” (field trip experience) for kids in the KC area. The volunteer program managed to rescue the airframe from the scrapper after 15 years in a Tucson boneyard and short of its intended use, I can’t think of a much better purpose than inspiring the next generation of aviation professionals. I’d have loved to do it in middle school

use to know a pilot who was typed on this very jet.
he said the owners were huge assholes to work with, but the gig paid well

The now-defunct aviation history museum downtown at MKC has (had) a tristar as well.
Intelligent_Age_6284@reddit
Shit that museum isn’t open anymore? 😔
cyberentomology@reddit (OP)
Sadly no, there was a lease conflict with the city and they lost.

Governments suck
egguw@reddit
no way, that sucks :(. had that museum on my bucket list for quite some time but never had the opportunity to go to kansas
Sixshot_@reddit
There's a video online of its engines being run within the past year or thereabout, so it at least still "works"

This is sad. The Classics are dying, just like the boomers.
I can't say i feel the same about Boomers themselves

Would you like a bucket of putty for that chip on your shoulder?
LittleGanache_1984@reddit
LOL. You got downvited
Signal_Ball4634@reddit
There's like, zero economic reason to keep them around but I'm going to be sad once they retire the last few trijets and quadjets.

There is another one parked at Tijuana's Airport
Fluxmuster@reddit
That one sitting in TJ was involved in a near fatal loss of control in the 80s before being bought and operated by some televangelist cult leader.

This is at the overhaul base in KC - glad I wasn't the only one who noticed all these beauties sitting there!

They’ve got quite a motley collection.
During Covid I think they had half of Air Canada’s entire fleet!
MichaelPgh@reddit
great catch!

Saw it while landing the other day, was back up there today and grabbed a picture. The tristar has been there for a hot minute, but the SP arrived only a few months ago, it’s the old Sands Casino bird.
