Iran has already had and has the ability to develop nukes but they choose readiness to develop it, and the threat of it as political leverage. This worked when the US had semi-competent FoPo which lead the mutually beneficial outcome in the Iran deal. The Iranians got what they wanted (sanctions relief and oil exports on the open market). Once they develop it, the genie is out the bottle and it becomes impossible to reset relations, and only leaves further escalation on the table for both sides.

The problem is that Israel is aggressively trying to start a war with Iran, but is realistically completely unable to topple Iran. They need the Americans to do that for them, even though starting shit is not in the Americans’ interest. Except those that have their tongue shoved up Israel’s ass which seems to be around half the country and 90% of the politicians. They might legitimately invade.
