Do rural southerners view urban liberal southerners from places like Austin the same way they view northerners?

I’ll admit I’m pretty sheltered, I’ve never left the country and barely been away from my home in Chicago and only ever visited big cities.

Setting aside the fact that Austin is hardly Southern, not quite. Southerness isn't about political identity, there are plenty of culturally Southern Democrats. Hell, many Southern states only flipped red in the last couple of decades.

Yes. I live in rural Texas. We see urban Austinites as California transplants who moved from California after ruining the state and now want to impose those beliefs on the rest of us in Texas. I don't say whether I believe it's true or not. That is the mindset of most rural Texans. I go to Austin a lot for work, and it has become infested with homeless people, and the city is a lot dirtier than it used to be back in the day. My buddy works for APD, and she said that the crime is worse and violent crime is even worse than property crime. But so are other big cities in Texas, such as San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth, and especially Houston. Rural Texans blame this on the influx of people from the North, whether it is true or not.

Probably a pretty subjective question and you’ll get different answers. I would say that the average Austin person is probably a lot more similar to the average San Francisco person than someone from rural Texas. Rural Texans and Central Californians probably have a lot of similarities for the same reason.

I’m originally from the very rural south east part of Alabama and I’m very liberal. That’s the problem with stereotyping.
