Where is the cheatin' side of town?

So, I know there is downtown in US cities, and also uptown. But where is the cheatin' side of town, that Eagles sing about?
anima_legis@reddit (OP)
I love the Eagles, man!
Simply_Sloppy0013@reddit
I don't know, but Johnny Rivers welcomes his baby (reluctantly, at first) back to the poor side of town after she drops him for a worthless rich guy.
Current_Poster@reddit
Hm. My information says the southside of Chicago is the baddest part of town, and cheatin' is bad, but but my information is from the 70s.
butt_honcho@reddit
New York's not much better. The South Side's gut its hustlers, the Bowery's got its bums, and 42nd's got Big Jim Walker, a pool-shooting son of a gun.

I've heard if you go to Deep Elem in Dallas, you got to put your money in your sock.

BeautifulSundae6988@reddit
It's referencing a red light or brothel district.
butt_honcho@reddit
The song is about a woman having an affair with one specific man, not going to a brothel.
"She rushes to his arms, they fall together,
She whispers that it's only for a while.
She swears that soon she'll be coming back forever.
She goes away and leaves him with a smile."
BeautifulSundae6988@reddit
Yes it is. So I'm not a frequenter of brothels or red light districts, but presumably, it's also an area to be filled with shady bars to meet flies, and like, bath houses and dirty movie theaters and such.
But I'd assume it's also a place one could meet their mistress or mister? (Unsure of word there lol) And not have to worry about bumping into your husband or friends from church no?
butt_honcho@reddit
There's absolutely nothing in the song to indicate that. She could just as easily be meeting him at his house.

The archetypal song about cheating is Brian Adams' "Run to You." So the answer is whichever side of town is closest to his native land of Canada (often but not always north).
ColossusOfChoads@reddit
That song's about cheating? Huh. They were playing that in a restaurant this last Sunday and I was like "that song's better than I remember."
woodsred@reddit
I take it you missed the part at the beginning where he shouts "She says her love for me could never die, but that'd change if she ever found out about you and I" haha
ALoungerAtTheClubs@reddit
Unlike an affair, Bryan Adams songs get better with age.
butt_honcho@reddit
You say that, and yet "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" exists.
