As with most Reddit alternatives, I have the following questions:

How resistant is the platform to enshittification? Is there anything (e.g. FOSS model) legally preventing you from selling the platform if a person or company made you an offer too good to refuse?
How is content moderation handled? If you're taking a hands-off, free-speech approach, what would prevent the platform from devolving into a "nazi bar", or more likely in this case, a hub for CSAM?
Do you plan to implement ActivityPub? The ability to collaborate rather than compete with other Reddit alternatives will help with the growth and adoption of the platform. Existing Reddit alternatives without ActivityPub support (Discuit, Disqus, Raddle, Saidit, Tildes, etc.) suffer from very small userbases compared to those that do support ActivityPub (Lemmy, Mbin, PieFed). I'm not sure if the same trend would be observed for NSFW platforms, but I don't see why not. As others have mentioned, Lemmy already has one NSFW instance: lemmynsfw.com

Images and gif/webp for now. I will probably add support for mp4 and webm in the future, but it will add to hosting cost, so waiting a bit for now.

How do you make sure the pictures & gifs posted are of people above 18 years old? This is a massive problem in other "porn" sharing communities and website, including pornhub etc

CSAM Scanning helps. I will also be adding reports very soon.

remghoost7 has already given you great suggestion, so I can only add that if you have human moderation, make sure they feel safe and can get mental health protection / counseling, as this type of work can be really harmful to the psyche.

I'd recommend adding something like Deepface scanning to the pipeline.
While it's not perfect, it's another layer of detection. It's pretty lightweight too.

Faceless videos/pictures are a bit more challenging. You could grab a few frames, pipe it over to a vision model (like Gemma3), and have it estimate an age. The 4b model can do vision and would be pretty quick on a consumer level GPU. You could even use something like runpod or a similar service to do it offsite (since I'm guessing you're hosting in the cloud, not locally).

The 4b Q4_K_M GGUF is only around 2gb, so you'd probably need around 4gb of VRAM for the entire inference. Even something like a 1060 6GB could run it. I haven't tried the model out myself yet though, so these are just estimates. But I'd guess I'm pretty solidly in the ballpark.

AI detection would add more compute overhead but it would cut down a ton on staffing/review overhead.

It gets challenging though with various face/body filters (which seem to be rather prevalent nowadays) and the ever pushing of limits to look younger and younger. It's a trend that I'm not a fan of, but it's a trend that exists nonetheless.

With both of these solutions, you could push anything that's flagged to a manual review.
At the end of the day though, you're going to need some amount of people on a team for manual reviews.
