I just switched to linux mint xfce(from win11) even though my hardware is good (since i m using a laptop and dont want a heavy os)
and I am blown away!!!!!!!!
I used to have AUDIO driver issues all the time ;-;
and i didn't even had to click a button and wallah the audio works fine
the temps are so stable!!!!!!!!!
m ready to spend time learning this rather than getting frustrated over a non working os

Do You Like Xfce More Than Cinnamon?
Sensitive_Yokai@reddit (OP)
less system resources utilized in xfce and since linux isn't much for low power mode usage
safe to say, xfce is the best for my use case

lazyracoon83@reddit
What is girl? What is friend? Are those in AUR?
BinkReddit@reddit
Win. Although, eventually, you want a girlfriend again, because.

OMFG the audio issues. I actually went backwards. Work got me a XPS 15 9520 with Windows 10 on it and it was meh. Nothing amazing, but at least stable. I got permission to reinstall it with Linux and it was noticeably faster even though I ran everything in sandboxed KVM VMs. I had one for internet, one for internal admin, one for cloud admin, etc. I even had an Intunes managed Windows 11 VM for O365. Sure it didn't run as fast as bare metal, but it was more than usable including running Teams meetings in it. Then about a year ago we go a new CIO who mandated that everyone had to use managed Windows because of "security".
Now on the same hardware I can barely run 2 VMs, if I do 3 or more one of them freezes at the worst time possible. I now do O365 on the host OS and because I can't run that many VMs now, I lose all my sandboxing, unless I keep shutting things on and off.
But even worst the audio sucks!!!! It's the same hardware but the audio jack crackles now (I did test with a live disk and its fine booting to Linux). Even a USB headset is jank, that wave something software keeps messing with the audio volume and I'm guessing noise cancellation. I had to disable it which stablised the headset, but stopped the audio jack from working.... Finally Teams meeting does something to the USB controller which causes it to reset, which nukes my mounted USB hard drive and the network connection from the USB hub.
I'm not the only one coz before I was forced to switch over, I used to laugh at my colleagues who used to complain about all these things, and more. I guess it's just karma :(
At least I haven't had the issue with the VPN client losing its DNS or routing and only being fixed with a reboot.

I think you should consult a therapist, even a psych test would suffice
you sound like you are suffering alot
crackling sounds in my case were due to incompatible driver (you might have forced the drivers) or in some cases due to electrical issues (or so I've heard)

Welcome to freedom!
ivvttkk@reddit
Welcome! You will see that you will not go back, if obviously you have a bit of desire to learn. But it seems to me that you have it!
xPaJaCx@reddit
In fact, this is just your first step towards frustration. But that's good, because thanks to this you will develop and learn, and not mindlessly click on incomprehensible icons like Windows owners
Sensitive_Yokai@reddit (OP)
can vouch for this lol
the system crash 3 times since install and the timing was reducing between consecutive crashes
so i decided to reinstall the entire system, I think I messed up the gpu drivers
its been good since then no crashes, I think linux can change people's faith you just wish that this install just works out
xPaJaCx@reddit
I used to have a situation where I used a pendrive from AliExpress that lost data and I couldn't install the system. Invest five dollars in some cheap, original working pendrive and you will have peace of mind from installation problems

Give it time. I know you will run into some crap that annoys the piss out of you. lol

still !! a working OS is always better lol

Currently Iām annoyed at Linux because I canāt figure out how to get Steam games to work with HDR via gamescope with a Nvidia Graphics card and in a Wayland session. Hours of research, many different posts, with only a few replies. Itās frustrating because I recently bought a nice MSI 27 inch HDR OLED monitor and I canāt even figure out to enable HDR due to how Linux works. Bleh.
Iām honestly almost at my breaking point and going back to Windows until HDR is fully implemented. Of course the distro I use āKIbuntuā is behind with a lot of stuff which makes people like me suffer who want bleeding edge things to work properly lol
I need to switch over to an Arch based distro and maybe Iāll have more luck but it just sucks losing what all I have created within KUbuntu. Bleh

Linux continues to be rough for the following scenarios:
The primary reason is because Linux has no broad automated testing, and instead relies on the individual developers to test their changes. Since the above scenarios are uncommon for developers to try, they get substantially less test coverage vs. mainstream ones.

Enjoy the honeymoon phase!
Youāll stumble on some issues down the road but the main difference is that itās an open system thatās not preventing you from tackling them to your personal liking.
Radium@reddit
Yeah, I love linux, but you're still going to hit issues from time to time and unless you're a dev you'll have to beg the maintainers to fix it just like you have to beg microsoft to fix it. Hopefully the maintainer is actively developing. :) it's amazing, but not perfect
BinkReddit@reddit
This is the correct answer. However, you are a thousand times more likely to get a reply from an open source developer than you are from someone at Microsoft!
Radium@reddit
Yep! It helps being able to directly contact the person in charge of the feature instead of a chat agent who has no idea who works on what at Microsoft
BinkReddit@reddit
Even the chat agent will do a little more than file a bug report that might never get addressed, and it's unlikely they will ever follow up with you on the report.
r_search12013@reddit
that's a marvellous way to describe the ongoing learning experience on keeps having with ones linuxes :D and rarely have I been so glad to be living in linux land as I am now with all that ai enshittification specifically of apple and windows
JagerAntlerite7@reddit
we KNOW!!!!1!!!
Optimal_Mastodon912@reddit
That's cool, although you should check out a live USB of Cinnamon as the desktop environment is nicer and if you have a decent PC then it will not affect performance at all.
bubbybumble@reddit
I gotta go back...
Hegel_of_codding@reddit
it have less levels of apstraction. In windows you might have gui for all things.. in linux you wont..i mean some distros are full gui but some let you do thi gs via terminal how you like...and thats all...for example freedom. You dont want notification system? change it fully however you like..You dont like file manager? Desktop env? bar? and so on...you can implement all that and make entkre system how you like...no one is stopping you

Welcome to the community!
As you go about learning more about Linux, just keep in mind that there will be adjustments you need to make as you continue to use it, but don't let that get you down! Some things will be easier, as you found out, but some things will also be harder. Just be patient, explore alternatives to the apps you used to use on Windows if necessary, and be willing to adapt.
For me, software development became way easier when I switched to Linux. The entire ecosystem is built for developer ergonomics. However, some things were harder, especially when it came to creative tasks like video and photo editing. I had to migrate my workflow from Premier and Lightroom to Resolve and Darktable.
Hax_techs@reddit
Linux is always the way to go. Explore things, you'll find even more refreshing stuff than you would imagine.
Sensitive_Yokai@reddit (OP)
im almost in tears!!!!! using this buttery smooth os!!!!
