Car lighter related stuff goes boom, what could be the problem?

Hey, im trying to replace the cigarette lighter socket in my car and im experiencing some issues. Despite studying elecrotechnology in school im quite dumb so please bear with me here. My current cigarette lighter socket is rusted and due to that malefunctions often. I'm trying to replace it, so i bought a socket from aliexpress. I installed it and then I wanted to test it. Before starting my car I put a cigarette lighter splitter into the new socket and into the splitter i inserted my car LEDs which have a on/off button on them, I put it into the On postion. Then i started the car amd nothing worked. I waited for around 10 seconds and then I pressed the on/off button on the LEDs, turning them off. Then I pressed it again and heard a boom. It was a capacitor from inside the splitter which makes me believe that the splitter was faulty but one can never know and this is not the first time stuff like this went boom due to the cigarette lighter. Am I doing something wrong or was the splitter faulty? Thank you for your help in advance. I'll send pictures of components if needed.

Is it really a cigarette lighter or is it a "power outlet?" The lighters are on heavier circuits because they're designed to heat metal enough to burn things- power outlets are meant to power a phone and are easy to overload.
Don't power your fucking lighting that way, at the very least use an add-a-fuse at the fuse panel.

Might just be a power outlet im not exactly well versed in the terminology

You've studied electrics? What fuse is that outlet's circuit on? Don't overload it.

I'd buy 30 year old RadioShack surplus parts before shopping on AliExpress.

Ironically enough, the part that went boom wasn't from ali

There's several ways u can goaboutthisgrab a jumper split the two up or grab larger fuse or run. A new circuit from battery with a fuse in middle of course
