Carter BloodCare / Plano Location

This is a one-star review for the Carter BloodCare Plano location, where I’ve been donating for over 15 years. My last two visits were enough to convince me I won’t be coming back.
At the previous visit, my wife and I had 11:00 a.m. appointments. We arrived early, around 10:45, and had completed all the online paperwork. The receptionist acknowledged us, and we waited. At 11:15, I walked up and reminded her we had appointments and were on a schedule. She apologized and told us to be patient. A walk-in group had apparently been taken ahead of us. At 11:25, she told us it would be at least another 15 minutes before we could be seen, so we walked out.
Today, April 1, 2025, we gave them another shot. Same deal—11:00 a.m. appointments, online paperwork already done. We checked in and were told, “We’ll be right with you.” Nobody else was in the lobby. Staff were milling around—one at the copier, two in back flipping through paperwork. It looked like they were just opening up, even though the center had supposedly been open since 8:00.
At 11:15, I reminded the receptionist again that we had scheduled appointments. Same response: “We’ll be right with you.” A few more people had arrived by then and were also just sitting around. At 11:25, we walked out—again.
It’s clear that this location isn’t managed well. There’s no sense of urgency, no respect for scheduled appointments, and honestly, no real sign that they care. Maybe Carter BloodCare isn’t interested in whole blood donors anymore, or maybe the staff just doesn’t want to be there. Either way, nobody was getting helped, and there was no excuse for it.
We’ve never had this issue with the Red Cross location nearby—they run on time and treat donors like their time matters.
Carter Plano feels like a place where donor commitment is met with indifference. The mix of one-star and five-star reviews kind of says it all—frustrated donors complaining, and probably staff or management padding the ratings. If your time matters to you, go somewhere else. I’m done with Carter.

My experience has been different. I used to go to the one on McDermott and alma for the last 3-4 years, but the last two times I saw the same phlebotomist, for some reason she was in a hurry both times, first time she shoved a plastic cover in my hand in my hand, not the squeeze or a ball just bunched up plastic bag, would reply or respond to any questions. I gave it a pass thinking she was having a bad day. and the next time I saw the lady, she stuck the needle in a rush without a care in the world, it was the worst pain I've experienced in a blood draw. Not going to Carter again, just donate at my workplace during the Red Cross blood donation days.

Frisco location is the best, I have been donating platelets almost every 3 weeks with appointment. Never had an issue, give it a shot.

I've been donating blood regularly for over 20 years, at Carter for the last 10. The center experience has gotten worse the last couple years. My read is challenges finding and keeping staff.
I have never been a difficult draw, but my last two donations made me adamant I am going to insist on having the most experienced person stick me. One they had to stick both arms (after a LOT of jacking around with it in the first arm), the most recent - it clotted up due to poor technique from the phlebotomist (confirmed by a more senior person there) and my half a bag of O- CMV- couldn't be completed. It was also my most painful draw and left a big bruise - again, rare for me in 20+ years. I've always been the "oh, anyone can stick me person."
I hate to be That Person, but the overall quality of their newer phlebotomists is worse, and I'm going to be pushier about who can stick me.

Similar experience there so I started going to Garland location. Much better experience and actually closer since I am in East Plano.
