IM SO SICK AND TIRED OF THE “CAPTIVE AUDIENCE” TAX. F ALL THESE STORES!
chrisp_ape@reddit
I just insta cart to my truck comes out cheaper then truck stops
spyder7723@reddit
Do you have issues getting them to deliver right to the truck? At the house between instacart and walmarts delivery service we almost never have to go out to the store anymore. I can usually find a Walmart once a week to stock up the fridge/freezer/pantry in the truck but on occasion it runs dry and I can't get to the store.
chrisp_ape@reddit
No issues at all they are pretty knowledgeable too they ask me if I’m in a flat bed or what color is my truck. When I’m in a pilot or flying J parking lot
spyder7723@reddit
That's good info to know. Thanks.
Down2EatPossum@reddit
Pro tip, buy a 1.5 liter growler with the vacuum layers in the sidewalls and just keep your cold water in it, stays cold and you refill when you stop. Free refills and water stays cold.
Brother_Trucker@reddit
What's a growler?
Down2EatPossum@reddit
A container.
Brother_Trucker@reddit
I figured that much. But is it more like a thermos, or more like a cooler?
Down2EatPossum@reddit
More like a thermos honestly, mine has a flip top lid that screws in.
Brother_Trucker@reddit
I've bought several of these camping water jugs and put them in my truck. I can either refill them at home, or at some Walmarts.
I drive company trucks, usually condo sleepers, so I can just put them in the upper bunk.
12InchPickle@reddit
Better off getting a bottle of fireball.
4_string_bean@reddit

FormalBig5265@reddit
@leftlanepickle thoughts?
torivordalton@reddit
Everyone knows you buy at home and bring supplies with you for this very reason
GlomBastic@reddit
Used to live in my truck. I drop a map pin at every grocery store and Walmart with easy access from the highway. Star the ones that are overnight friendly. I have a little over 100 locations saved.
Dicked_Crazy@reddit
I drive for Walmart. If you plan ahead, and Call to ask if you can park at a Walmart. Make sure you talk to a manager or a team lead like you to park. Most stores are happy to let you park there to shop. Some can’t because of issues either from city ordinances or problems with trucks in the past.
stephenforbes@reddit
If I see other trucks parked there and there is ample space that is usually good enough for me to do a shopping trip.
BitEnvironmental4872@reddit
You plan on sharing that list with us drivers?? 😏
GlomBastic@reddit
It's on my Garmin. There is a way to transfer it to maps or the Garmin app? I update the unit from my home PC with a micro SD card like an old ass neanderthal.
BitEnvironmental4872@reddit
Ok cool
Dankreefer420@reddit
What app do you save them in. I have something similar.
GlomBastic@reddit
Garmin GPS. There is a way to put it on Google that I haven't figured out.
United_News3779@reddit
For a while, I was running flatdeck super b's in western Canada, and I did the same for the Costcos that were truck accessible. On my Garmin, I'd save a trip route so that I would come in from the right direction for the easiest access through the light industrial areas that they were in.
I cook for myself, but I don't deal with raw meat when my access to proper hand washing facilities is so restricted. So costco was the best selection/price for precooked stuff.
Ben7800@reddit
or stop at a Walmart
Tank52086@reddit (OP)
Agreed but that’s not the point. If no one calls out this BS they’ll keep doing it.
And honestly it’s makes no business sense. No one is dumb enough to buy at these prices so it’s just wasted capital on the stores part and sits on the shelf.
mistakemaker3000@reddit
You really think there are no desperate people or people that don't care how much it is? Boy do I have some bad news for you.
They're called "convenient" stores for a reason. Either way the premium for the convenience or keep it pushing. The prices wouldn't be high if nobody paid em
stephenforbes@reddit
Only items I buy at truck stops are with fuel points or the rare emergency item for truck.
ElectronicGarden5536@reddit
Its a fat/poor people tax. Dont feel like walking to the dollar general? Cant think far enough ahead to get groceries? Too bad. Also last i checked water is free?
Glittering_Map5003@reddit
Rookie?
Pastorfuzz69@reddit
Just like the bug juice. $6.99 at truck stops near me. Gallon of Rain X bug juice 2.99 at Menards. Fuck these truck stops. Especially Loves. They have more toys in stock than actual products we need for trucking.
Significant-Ad-8241@reddit
Buy concentrate online. Washer fluid cost me 8¢/gallon to make
Saaaaaaaammmmmmmm@reddit
True, my daughter loves the dinosaur slime they have
Theboywgreenscarf@reddit
I always thought that’s why they have toys. For truckers to buy shit for the kids since they never see them.
NomadTruckerOTR@reddit
That last part is true. They need to focus more on who actually supports their business, instead of pandering to travelers.
And why can't any of these truck stop actually stock some fresh meat and produce like Kwik Trip does? Such a damn shame
i_was_axiom@reddit
Shout-out to Kwik Trip and their weird cousin Kwik Star
ohmygodbees@reddit
Fun Fact! (which I am sure you knew)
Kwik Star is Kwik Trip's brand invented ENTIRELY to open locations where Quik Trip already existed. They're basically the exact same thing!
atticthump@reddit
kwik trip and kwik star are the same store. they just can't be called "kwik trip" in states where "quik trip" already exists, like in iowa
RepresentativeAd560@reddit
Being able to get a cheap 9 shot espresso made me love that place.
CapitanPino@reddit
Is quik trip and kwik trip the same company
i_was_axiom@reddit
No, "The Q" Quik Trips are a separate chain.
Pastorfuzz69@reddit
Exactly. Many drivers have microwave and small convection ovens in their trucks. Nice to make close to a home cooked meal when on the road
Todd2ReTodded@reddit
Man I thought you were talking about that wildly over priced sugary children's drink
mistakemaker3000@reddit
I was so confused 😂
Todd2ReTodded@reddit
I've had to buy that for my son and I was like BOUT FUCKIN TIME SOMEONE TELLS IT LIKE IT IS ABOUT THE GOD DAMNED BUG JUICE
mistakemaker3000@reddit
I begrudgingly bought it for my younger siblings exactly 1 time, mad as hell at the price for like 10 oz of juice. I was ready to join with a torch and pitchfork
rafacampoamor@reddit
Did you put tariffs on water too? 😂
offsetbackingtoright@reddit
That's a lot to pay for a piss jug.
balancedchaos@reddit
Especially when it's not even full of piss.
Fokazz@reddit
Maybe they'll give you a discount if you trade in your old one
balancedchaos@reddit
It's empty.
...don't ask.
PShubbs91@reddit
Nothing wrong with emptying and re-using the piss jug. Use it until it's seasoned real well like a cast-iron pan with the brown stuff caked on the sides. Then you trade it in for a new one.
gfinchster@reddit
Just pour a little Pine-Sol into it.
HarambeWasTheTrigger@reddit
I don't hear that's very good for your kidneys, but it's a free country so you do you.
Lavasioux@reddit
"Seasoned like a cast iron pant" i'm cryin.
balancedchaos@reddit
Gotta scrub the kidney stones out once in a while.
PShubbs91@reddit
Bring in your full piss jug and tell them you just bought that water and it tastes kinda funny.
Lavasioux@reddit
It's a piss core charge for when you leave it on their property next to a Almond joy or mounds bar.
4rm4ros@reddit
Ozarka isn’t surprising bc it’s nestle
Tripalicious@reddit
Wtf is Ozarka
N661US@reddit
When I worked at Pepsi we joking called it the trucker tax. Pepsi and other sodas were usually 50-75 cents more than anywhere else. 24 packs of Aquafina were like 9-10$
nekaiser@reddit
That’s mighty ballsy of them to even put a price on a 24pk of insta-dri.
gfinchster@reddit
I bought a countertop RO water purifier for my truck. Problem solved.
Little5Green0Bean9@reddit
Drop your trailer at Loves, unhook and go park behind any mega grocer and stock up!
Tall_Conflict3935@reddit
That's bad when WATER is more than MILK. Water should FUCKING FREE!!!
Eternal_Wither@reddit
I just paid over $10 for a 32ct case of water at loves. Like wtf is that shit
jmzstl@reddit
Are those at the same store? What morons are paying that for bottled tap water when the spring water is a dollar cheaper?
dz1n3@reddit
5 gallon water jug and manual pump.
Annabanana2989@reddit
So be prepared.. Really
Wizard_with_a_Pipe@reddit
This is exactly why I buy this type of stuff at Walmart or grocery stores. No reason to pay truck stop prices. It's ridiculous.
TruckerBiscuit@reddit
Makes me wonder if the "non-potable water do not drink" signs are just so truckers don't fill up empties at the fuel island and instead go inside to pay these criminal prices.
mistakemaker3000@reddit
... I must've missed that sign. I've been refilling every time I see a spigot 😂
Tank52086@reddit (OP)
🤔
Veryhappycommission@reddit
that's the free market at work. Why are you bitching about it? Part of that is Bidon's inflation. Be careful who you vote for. Bring water from home. Yah, it sucks, I get it. Stop bitching.
Mike_kont@reddit
Stock up at Costco 😬 $4.50 pack of 6
duhrun@reddit
Yeap even now you can find that for a buck at Walmart.
Tank52086@reddit (OP)
$1.38 but whatever. There’s no way these assholes are paying more than $0.50 cost.
duhrun@reddit
The glacial water 99 cents buy it all the time.
Tank52086@reddit (OP)
Oh damn, I gotta look better. Never seen that. Thanks.
duhrun@reddit
They usually put it in the center of the main isle as you walk by each row of food sections.
Routine-Twist4578@reddit
Walmart delivers to trucks. I order every week.
NorthDriver8927@reddit
Stop using them. Park and walk to get what you need. It’s the only way to avoid it. They profit of our laziness.
lawlet91@reddit
Or DoorDash it to your truck. Guarantee it’s cheaper to DoorDash than the truck stop price. Obviously getting it on home time is the cheapest option but if you forget to purchase everything you needed at least that option is better priced
Todd2ReTodded@reddit
Walk? What do you mean, I've never encountered that word
NorthOld6237@reddit
This is why I started making my water from scratch There’s a YouTube channel on it lol
4_string_bean@reddit
Mark Watney has entered the chat
NorthOld6237@reddit
Great now I gotta do my Googles
4_string_bean@reddit
I'll save you the trouble

everythangspeachie@reddit
Foreal, I started bringing a 5 gallon with me on the road cuz it’s ridiculous. I payed $5 for a bar of soap a while back! Now I just order a 10 pack off Amazon for $12
United_News3779@reddit
I have a water cooler jug for my main water source (keep a 32pack of 500ml bottles under the bed for my emergency supply) and keep an eye out for the sanitize/refill stations at stores in the areas I'm hauling in. $2.50 for a refill for 5 gallons is a lot better than the usual truck stop price bullshit
Striking_Weekend_282@reddit
Shits free at the sink
I always put water on my EFS card and my company hasnt said anything about it
United_News3779@reddit
Generally speaking (my knowledge is of Canadian workplace safety regulation and legislation), the employer is required to provide access to safe drinking water and toilet facilities. Your employer may be aware of a regulation like that for your jurisdiction, or they just not cheap cunts like so many companies lol
Mindless-While-5326@reddit
I carry a 5 gallon water jug on the truck and refill it at Walmart for $2.50 when I run out. Also if you have loves unlimited refills you can get water for free.
kxlling@reddit
I worked at a pharmacy on the Vegas strip for about 8 years, we didn't even charge half of that for a gallon of water. Its been crazy seeing how much more a truckstop is compared to one of the busiest tourist spots in the country.
lg4av@reddit
That’s cruise ship prices right there. Unless you’re the last stop before the desert
No-Cicada9534@reddit
This what Tariffs get you MAGA in the building
JaxAustin@reddit
If you get a 3 gallon water container, you can fill up at Walmart for like $.70 or, Google Primo water and you can find a dispenser. Buying gallon water that is expensive is a personal choice.
ar10shooterinnc@reddit
Do your shopping at walmart.
Gijinbrotha@reddit
We have no consumer protections anymore under this administration.
santanzchild@reddit
Screw off with that bs. Truckstops weren't magically cheap when Biden or Obama were in office.
OracleTrucker@reddit
Water has always been pricey at the truck stop and more so these days. Even 10 years ago it was still much cheaper to buy water at Walmart. Not much has changed here. They charge more because they’re like a convenience store and sometimes there’s no Walmart nearby.
NotSoOuterSpace@reddit
Needed a wiper once. $38 at pilot. $4 on rockauto.
lord_nuker@reddit
And i just go to a spring and fill my water bottle free of charge most time
LastMongoose7448@reddit
Wild. Primo 5gal are $7.50 delivered!
No_Poet7757@reddit
Where are you, the Dollar General?
amazonallie@reddit
Capitalism at it's best
Due-Log6877@reddit
I mean a 20oz bottle is $2.50-3.50.
$5 for a gallon doesn't seem bad.
Claim_Alternative@reddit
Stop at QuikTrips, DK, RaceTrac, etc for normal gas station prices on snackies (and usually very cheap diesel, if you are penny-pinching). You can get a whole pizza at RaceTrac for $10, or a milkshake at QuikTrip for $4.
Everything else, go to Walmart.
Atruckerguy@reddit
I go to walmart and stock up. Only refill water bottles at the truck stops. I dont buy anything at truck stops. Company pays for fuel and i get the free showers and free coffee. Never going to buy something that is that high.
Imaginativested@reddit
Its not just trucks stops its everywhere now.
sarysa@reddit
Reuse reuse reuse. A lot of rest areas these days have filtered Elkay dispensers for water bottles. Get a bunch of good containers and keep refilling them.
DickWoodReddit@reddit
It's out of control.
ArdenJaguar@reddit
When I travel I still stop at Truck Stops even though I quit driving around 2002. Last fall I drove over to Arizona and stopped at a Love's near Buckeye. Some of the prices I saw were 3x what I'd see at a normal Walmart or Target for things. A tiny caesar salad was $8. A giant one is $5 at Walmart. Candy bars for $3 that were $1.60 at Walmart. It isn't only the truck stops though, Arco gas stations are just as bad here in CA.
