Population IQ map in the Balkans

Probably well known map for IQ population in the Balkans.
What so you think?
Seems the lowest is in Albania and North Macedonia, while Croatia has the highest.
First-Egg-713@reddit
“Based solely on recent student assessments (PISA,TIMSS 2012)”
Hmmm very good methodology lmao…
To my knowledge there has never been any real iq testing study by a credible org (mensa) in albania.
But hey dont let me get in the way of the “those people i dont like are stupid” posts
Aggressive_Limit2448@reddit (OP)
Of course, but seems countries with Albanian population scores the lowest according to many sources for the Balkans.
First-Egg-713@reddit
Ok so post the study bro lol, like i said im not aware of any iq study by a real accredited organization ever. Im open to changing my mind if you have studies.
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
Organizations don't conduct studies (wtf are you saying?). Psychometricians do. Here.
First-Egg-713@reddit
What? Lol? Psychometrics is a field of study (i assume psychology), they would get funding from some organization that wants the research done. Thats how it works…
Post the actual studies from your link.. i googled like 3 of them other than lynn (which is rhe study in op) and did not find anything.
I found one study from altinok 2023 about schooling and std test scoring, nothing regarding iq.
Like i said, ill wait for you either of you to post real studies here haha.
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
Lynn 2012.
Rindermann 2018.
Becker 2019.
Lim 2018.
Woessmann 2022.
Altinok 2023.
First-Egg-713@reddit
Bro did you actually read even the title of any of those? Lol
From what i scanned only 2 of those have anything at all to do with iq, and those 2 (lynn and becker) base iq estimate in albania solely on test scores.
You just want to be right on the internet so bad? Fine, you win. Take it lol.
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
Not only do I read titles, I read the studies themselves. Please, read the studies and reread the chart I sent originally before commenting.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you weren't aware of what the last 3 studies did (they didn't measure IQ directly).
Outrageous_Trade_303@reddit
I bet there's no source for that. I mean have any of you ever been tested for your IQ? How would they know?
BardhyliX@reddit
It's been debunked every time It's been posted elsewhere on the internet yet it still surfaces every other week.
Outrageous_Trade_303@reddit
No need to be debunked: it's rather obvious that no one collects data related to IQ.
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
\^ said by someone with low IQ
Outrageous_Trade_303@reddit
My IQ is 142. I'm a mensa member.
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
You are not saving this, lmao.
Outrageous_Trade_303@reddit
There's nothing to save! You are the one who talks about a subject that you don't know.
I'm talking about it because as an autistic person I was tested various times for my IQ since I was a kid and everyone who tested me was thinking that I was stupid. Thankfully mensa has a different idea about what IQ really is.
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
1) having a high IQ doesn't equate to being a psychometrician or having knowledge in the field
2) I can tell your, for a fact, you do not sound like a high IQ person. You contradict yourself. First, you said "no one collects data related to IQ", but then you continued "I was tested various times for my IQ since I was a kid". C'mon.
Outrageous_Trade_303@reddit
Yeah! That is the way you understood what I wrote.
BardhyliX@reddit
You might think so but lots of people are fooled by it or use it to fuel some sort of silly propaganda.
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
The source is Lynn/Becker 2019.
Outrageous_Trade_303@reddit
See the criticism here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ_and_the_Wealth_of_Nations#Criticism_of_data_sets
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
Yeah I know. You said "I bet there's no source for that", you didn't say "The source is bollocks".
Outrageous_Trade_303@reddit
I didn't know there was a source. When I learned there was one I did some research on that and I figured out that at least it was controversial.
Butterpye@reddit
The source is that they tested a very small amount of mostly children from each country which were then transformed into national averages using many of the authors' assumptions and biases.
Outrageous_Trade_303@reddit
Yeah! There's a whole wikipedia article about it. I posted it in some other comment.
Few_Owl_6596@reddit
I agree, I don't trust any IQ-related statistics. They are only good for flexing with your own one, if it's high enough.

Albania, Kosovo and MK have the lowest IQ according to the Greek cited quote here also.
Ghost_Protocol147@reddit
Well if the greeks say so 👌🏻
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
I think he meant my comment here. There's no actual Greek cited. All studies were conducted by foreigners (one is a Turk, particularly Altinok).
Kalypso_95@reddit
We do love all of these countries 🥰
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
This shit is spread around, but it doesn't seem to be very accurate. It's not *that* inaccurate either though, I'll provide some data/sources:
These are the averages based on six studies. Obviously, take these with a grain of salt. Margin of error is a thing.
Ghost_Protocol147@reddit
Who even measures IQs though? I have never heard any study doing so.
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
You could just search the names of the studies on Google; they're cited on the datasheet.
There's some researchers administering IQ tests (e.g. Fitim Uka in Kosovo), but it's not many, obviously. They're doing the best they can.
Ghost_Protocol147@reddit
I saw the datasheet and researched a bit for Lynn/Becker but couldn’t find anything to substantiate their claims and what variables they checked and what sample size they considered.
Apparently in a study of theirs in Nepal, they said Nepal’s IQ average is 42.79 which is insane.
But oh well, it doesn’t matter anyway whatever the result would be.
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
This is a misconception thrown around about that study. Despite all its flaws, it actually didn't claim that Nepal's average IQ is 42.79. I'll quote from their book:
Ghost_Protocol147@reddit
This is a bullshit study dude but if it makes you feel better seeing those numbers, i am happy for you
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
Balkaners (including some Greeks, I won't leave us out) love coping about their IQ whenever they see maps like this.
Instead of saying, "this is bad, we need to fix this", they outright deny it and go into a disgusting defensive mode, spouting bullshit, thinking their IQ is German-tier (lol). When their bullshit is debunked, they deflect. It's common Balkantardism, but I hate to see it.
Aggressive_Limit2448@reddit (OP)
That looks accurate. Greeks look good.
Also it shows countries with Albanian population having the lowest score.
I am amazed by Turkiye result being a country with 80 million people near Middle East.
thethiccgorilla@reddit
Ok but what’s with Kosovo - that can‘t be right
UniqueComfortable689@reddit
Probably socioeconomic factors. Kosovo is a new country after all.

I thought that most people had at least 100iq
kirrsjenlymsth@reddit
It just reflects the average education a citizen gets. People like to think this proves that some countries are superior, but it's just who gets more education on average
Rutgerius@reddit
An iq test is ultimately just a test of how well you can fill out an iq test. It doesn't tell you anything about the person's mental capacities that wouldn't be obvious after a relatively brief interaction.
As in it's great at pointing out the high and low performers but the vast majority will get slightly different results based more on what they had for breakfast than their actual mental capabilities.
kirrsjenlymsth@reddit
Exactly. I once did an iq test and got 139, and another time I got 67.
MrChoos@reddit
It's lower!!!
Aggressive_Limit2448@reddit (OP)
Compared to your neighbours except Albania, definitely looks yes.
MrChoos@reddit
It's lower for us, I don't know about our neighbours. They can tell for themselves. :)
Aggressive_Limit2448@reddit (OP)
That looks bad for you I'm sorry.
PrettyChillHotPepper@reddit
A Hungarian made this map.

One of the main reasons is iodine deficiency. If you lack iodine growing up (including as a fetus) you would permanently significantly worsen your brain development. Thankfully for Balkans, most countries seem to have started mandating iodine in salt roughly after dissolution of Yugoslavia time-wise (or started actually enforcing it). Although, enforcement was pretty inadequate even after. But, adding other factors, damage is done. Salt alone is also not necessarily enough, particularly for pregnant women.
ayayayamaria@reddit
IQ graphs and all are usually sham, but honestly Balkaners aren't Europe's brightest.
Werm_Vessel@reddit
Where Slovenia? 🇸🇮
SecretRaspberry9955@reddit
MittelEuropa
Aggressive_Limit2448@reddit (OP)
Croatia also there but with honorary Balkan status
SecretRaspberry9955@reddit
Nah Croatia prefers to flex to Balkans, Slovenia wants to be the dumbest and poorest of MittelEuropa
Aggressive_Limit2448@reddit (OP)
Hrvatska is Central European not Balkan. But has a honorary and victorious Balkan status as a observer.

IQ’s are only routinely measured in criminals and psychiatric cases in Bulgaria.
I guess our criminals and nut jobs are smarter than the Serbian and Romanian ones.

They added Kosovo to Serbia on this map just to pull us down xD
Local_Geologist_2817@reddit
Or maybe the added Kosovo to Serbia to pull Kosovo up (we're all dumb and screwed)
