And I got ten houses that can go up to twenty
Snoo_31120@reddit
This is impossible... I was told nobody likes EVs
unclesam_0001@reddit
Would be interested in seeing how many of these were people who were originally going to buy Teslas.
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
Probably not too many; I think if you were going to buy one, a GM EV probably isn't going to be a replacement choice.
There's lots of GM ICE clients to convert though.
sbcpacker@reddit
I think some of those potential Tesla buyers probably chose to get a Cadillac.
Royal_J@reddit
Ive seen a ton of lyriqs around lately
BlazinAzn38@reddit
They’re a really good value
2BlueZebras@reddit
I don't know about value - I think they're near $70k with pretty standard range and performance. But an all black one rolls around my neighborhood and I really like the styling. If I could've afforded it I would've bought one this year - got a Mach E instead.
Mordin_Solas@reddit
2 year used lyriqs are like half off.
Hard_NOP_Life@reddit
No one's paying close to MSRP for them
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
That would make the MSRP a poor value.
tugtugtugtug4@reddit
In what world? If you're comparing it to a Macan EV, sure. But, the Macan is better in every single relevant way.
Lyriqs were a decent value 10 months ago when GM was throwing money on top, but they also barely made any that weren't highly specced and even with the deals they weren't particularly price competitive.
Kavani18@reddit
Better in every single way? Let’s not get carried away lol. The Lyriq has a much better interior imo
PurpEL@reddit
I'm excited for the 2027 Cadillac Suykdiq. Apparently there's a secret bonus setting on the massage seats.
Firearms_N_Freedom@reddit
Personally looking forward to the limpdiq
PigSlam@reddit
I wouldn't be surprised if a Tesla owner that may have thought about a CyberTruck decided a Silverado EV was a better choice. If they didn't want to support Tesla, but wanted something that's still fairly obnoxious, GMC has the Hummer EV line.
SigmaBallsLol@reddit
you can probably count the number of people who were seriously considering buying a 100k+ assault wedge but were either turned off by Elon's politics, Tesla reliability, or wanted something practical, on one hand hand.
hutacars@reddit
I’m on that hand. I wasn’t going to spend $100k on one, but figured when they hit $80k + tax credit I would bite. But Elon’s regardation catching up to him beat me to it.
PigSlam@reddit
Given the time between the announcement and first delivery, I bet a lot of opinions changed both due to Musk, and from alternatives like Rivian, F150 Lightning, and Chevrolet hitting the market.
tugtugtugtug4@reddit
Rivian and F150L were on the market for years before the Cybertruck went into production.
I just don't think there's any meaningful crossover between a CT customer and a customer for other EV pickups. If you buy a CT its because you want attention. Any other EV pickup (and really any other non-exotic car period) is a distant second in terms of attention-grabbing.
PigSlam@reddit
The Cybertruck was revealed in 2019. It went on sale in 2023. The Rivian truck went on sale in late 2021. The lightning went on sale in April 2022. The general public opinion of Tesla in 2019 was very different than the general public opinion of Tesla in 2023, and that has changed a lot by now in 2025. If you actually believe that essentially nobody changed their idea of which electric truck to buy over that span, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
dkviper11@reddit
I was surprised with the range on the Silverado. I originally thought Ford was doing it better by having an EV truck that looked 99% identical to the ICE one. The range they gained building the Silverado from the ground up seems to be worth it, although it might fit a slightly different use case.
PigSlam@reddit
It's pretty much a Hummer EV with a more aerodynamic body, isn't it?
dkviper11@reddit
I'd love to know. The Hummer weights 9000 lbs, which I thought was a lot more than the Silverado, but I just looked it up and they're not terribly different.
tugtugtugtug4@reddit
Its just a different body and wheels. The platform is the same.
GM's EVs are going to look like outdated dogshit in a year or two (and really they already do). Ultium was outdated two years before it went into production. The modularity, while a good idea in theory, results in their EVs being very overweight and very slow chargers.
I think they thought modularity would mean repairability and replaceability, but the actual designs turned out to be nearly as hard as every other EV to repair/replace a battery. So they got a ton of negative tradeoffs without any real benefit.
peakdecline@reddit
The Silverado has a long range because its got a massive battery, 205 kWh versus 135 kWh in their respective max configurations.
The GM EV trucks are definitely more radically different from their ICE cousins than the Ford... the GM EVs are almost more unibody than BOF construction even. But the F-150 Lightning is using a totally different frame, suspension, etc. from the ICE F-150 too. The upcoming Ram Ramcharger also uses a totally unique-to-it frame as well.
AdmiralZassman@reddit
The Silverado is simply a better electric truck in basically every way, and the price isn't bad
idontremembermyoldus@reddit
$93,000 for the RST is definitley pretty bad, even with the $15,000 discounts you can regularly get.
The WT versions aren't a bad deal (and they have CarPlay!), they're just hideously ugly. Not as bad as a Cybertruck, but close.
daaagoat@reddit
Bought cadillac lyriq instead of tesla model y. So there’s that.
Colddeck64@reddit
Once my naziwagon Y is done on lease I will be grabbing a Chevy Blazer EV.
tugtugtugtug4@reddit
You will be incredibly disappointed. The Y is superior in pretty much every way the the Blazer. I'm not saying keep the Tesla, but dumping it to get into a Blazer is punishing yourself way more than Musk.
Colddeck64@reddit
I’m in a lease, and leased it because Tesla was the only Oem offering any kind of incentives on a lease.
You very well could be right. I haven’t really dove into the Blazers yet. But from a 5000 foot view, the EV Blazer sounds like it would be perfect for me.
StucklnAWell@reddit
My preferred name has been Swasticar
BoringBob84@reddit
The EV Equinox or Blazer could replace a Model 3 or a Model Y.
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
Having compared them recently at the auto show, you'd really have to totally block out the 3/Y as options to choose one of those instead.
But I think the Equinox makes a strong case against the Kona EV and Leaf for sure. More so when there's deep discounts involved.
The Blazer is weird, it's more expensive, but basically the exact same size as the Equinox, but less attractive. I'm not sure what the goal is there.
BoringBob84@reddit
I agree that they are significantly different, but I also think it depends on each buyer's priorities. I looked at the EV Blazer and I thought it was huge, but "huge" is subjective.
tugtugtugtug4@reddit
The Blazer is huge, but the cabin space is not meaningfully larger than the Equinox. Its horribly packaged.
I think the original idea was probably to make the Blazer more premium, but somehow during the design process they basically became the same car in terms of features and quality. So the differentiator had to be size.
For awhile the Blazer was actually cheaper than the equinox after incentives, which probably got some people fired at GM.
Antec800@reddit
I’ve never driven a Tesla, but I did test drive both the equinox and blazer and they were awful af
SquirtBox@reddit
I have seen so SO many Hummer EV's this year. I swear to god it's a new one every single day.
dbcanuck@reddit
The Lyriq is a phenomenal car, and the first EV my family is considering.
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
I think it's really good looking and not bad technically, but phenomenal is stretching things a little.
Probably the nicest Caddy besides the Blackwings though.
dbcanuck@reddit
Fair, just saying an EV that looks like a sexy car versus generic globohomognization appliance (see: Leaf; Tesla; Ioniq, Polestar) and gets regular dealership support is a nice option.
Everything has been trying too hard to look like a bad prop from Minority Report so far, we need more cars that look like normal cars IMHO for EVs to really take off.
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
Looks are subjective, I like the Caddy, am starting to get tired of the Ioniq 5, but did like it and definitely like the refresh 3/Y. I don't really find any of these to be particularly weird looking.
But judged as a car, there isn't much the Lyriq does that puts it near the top of the segment. I hope that they have a substantial update plan like Ford employed with the Mach-E.
Keellas_Ahullford@reddit
Or people who sold their Teslas
partysparty18@reddit
If you go to the r/blazerev sub you can see a few people citing this
binkerfluid@reddit
If they sold their teslas someone would have to be buying them anyway
PurpEL@reddit
Not really, dealers can sit on stock
karankshah@reddit
Only for a little bit; most dealers generally won't buy stuff just to hold onto it. Buying and holding ties up cash directly (in the value of the car), costs money for however long they have it (interest adds up, as does their own insurance on the vehicle, and cleaning/detailing), and overall just makes their financials look worse (dealers that turn through their inventory more often are seen as being more profitable).
A car sitting on the lot does nothing for anyone, and there are way too many out there for any single dealer to try to corner the market on used Teslas.
PR_Tech_Rican@reddit
Oh, this choad owns one. Lol
BigJellyfish1906@reddit
You don’t know what you’re taking about. There is no dealership in the country that would pass up a sale because of the trade in. If they can’t sell it (which they won’t) they’ll sell it for parts or sell it to someone who will ship them overseas.
jdore8@reddit
Would they not just send the car to auction if nobody locally wants it?
BigJellyfish1906@reddit
Yup. So that’s why it’s dumb when people say “why get rid of your Tesla? Someone’s gonna buy it” or “how does that hurt Elon?”
It hurts Elon because if there’s no interest in his cars across the board, new or used, then he won’t sell cars, and the source of his oligarch powers evaporates.
hutacars@reddit
That’s not true. He already has the power he needs to get more money. He has direct access to the treasury, not to mention potential for corruption (e.g. forcing the FAA to use Starlink, or added federal SpaceX contracts). Tesla could disappear tomorrow and it wouldn’t impact him.
BigJellyfish1906@reddit
What makes you think he keeps his sway in this administration if he doesn’t have the money and influence of an oligarch anymore?

If Tesla went bankrupt tomorrow and every share of stock was wiped out, Elon would still be worth 12 figures because of Space X and Twitter. He'd be hurt, particularly in the liquidity department given his other companies are private, but he would still very much be an oligarch.
BigJellyfish1906@reddit
No he wouldn’t. That is fantasy math.
It’s not real wealth if he can’t be liquid. Space X doesn’t generate hardly any cash. Twitter is a debt vortex. His power comes from Tesla.
AndroidMyAndroid@reddit
He would need to start siphoning money out of SpaceX though, which would hurt SpaceX. I guess he could suck money out of Twitter too but I don't think there is any money in Twitter lol... or he could take them public!
frankztn@reddit
Pretty sure this is what happens, auction buyers with enough demand will definitely pick them up at auction, for resale or for parts.
karankshah@reddit
I'm not sure what I said that's out of sync with this?
You're correct. If they sense that this is what they're going to have to do, you can bet the amount of money they're going to offer is going to be miniscule, though.
Dealers will offer the best trade in value for cars they can turn around and sell themselves (within their brand, in good condition, etc).
If they can't plan on selling it themselves, they're only going to offer trade-in consistent with auctioning or overseas.
If they can't plan for any of that - i.e., if the trade in is just in shitty condition - then they'll sell it for parts, but again, the amount of money they'll offer for the trade will come down.
They'll know which way the market is turning, and choose trade in numbers that adjust for that. As no dealers are Tesla shops and most are probably still in working condition, I'm going to guess a lot of trades are going to be selling at auction. No buyer trading in a Tesla is going to get book value (or even close to it) with sales dipping this much.
My point from the beginning - which again, I'm not sure you're countering - is that there's no scenario in which dealers are holding on to inventory for an unlikely recovery in the price of Teslas.
GaviFromThePod@reddit
A lot of times when dealers are trying to discount vehicles that they can't really discount they'll fold some of that money into the trade-in. More pieces to the transaction makes it easier for them to find a number that works.
kon---@reddit
It'd go to auction
BigJellyfish1906@reddit
Dealer trade in, brah.
edgyusernameguy@reddit
I dont know the exact number but of the models conquested by Hummer, a good bit were Cybertrucks.
PurpEL@reddit
That's absolutely it
JLand24@reddit
If you look at the raw numbers, the consumers still overwhelmingly prefer ICE over EV.
While it is 100% factual their EV sales doubled, they only accounted for about 4.6% of their total sales. So the other 95.4% of their sales were not EV’s.
wangchunge@reddit
Watch in 2 years Ev may be 25% of sales.
Realistic_Village184@reddit
Yeah, EV's are still in their infancy. They only really gained wide adoption a few years ago. The fact that EV's are so common already is shocking. As the EV infrastructure and battery technology continue to improve, EV's will continue to quickly swallow up market share. I'd guess in 10-20 years ICE will be seen as an enthusiast option like manual transmissions.
I've only had my current ICE car for a couple of years, but I'll never buy an ICE car again. Even though I live in an apartment with no at-home charging, I could still drive to the office and charge there while I'm at work.
tugtugtugtug4@reddit
This is peak reddit. You don't even own an EV and seemingly never have, and you currently drive an ICE vehicle, but you're already saying your next car will be an EV and you'll never buy another ICE vehicle.
I have an EV at home, so don't take this as hating on them, but EVs are not some revolution and they are horrible to own if you don't have at home charging solutions.
Realistic_Village184@reddit

I will out of pure spite because that was a dumbass statement
ThickIndication5134@reddit
I switched from a Model 3 Performance back to an ICE recently and while I enjoy actually driving this current car a lot more, I’d forgotten how much it sucks to have to spend $200/mo on gas. However my car insurance has dropped from $300/mo (I have a perfect record but live in a large city) to $80/mo so that covers the difference.
tugtugtugtug4@reddit
The reason normal people aren't going to swap to EVs anytime soon is depreciation. EVs depreciate massively, which indirectly makes the cars cost more.
I don't think insurance or gas savings will make up for losing 10 or 20 grand more over an equivalent ICE vehicle on resale/trade.
ThickIndication5134@reddit
Yeah I lost 30K trading in my Model 3. I can afford it but it would’ve been smarter to drive it into the ground. My next EV will be used and will not cost more than $20K.
Ok-Response-839@reddit
We have a lot of cars but our Nissan Leaf gets the most daily use because it's just so damn cheap and convenient. We recently got solar too which makes it even cheaper.
I love all my ICEV but I've come to really loathe trips to the gas station. It's expensive, smelly, and a waste of time. EVs are the future for sure. Once kerbside charging becomes ubiquitous I think people will realise how much better EVs are.
ThickIndication5134@reddit
Charging in my garage is nice, I’ll own an EV again in the future but never another Tesla.
-SUBW00FER-@reddit
Insurance is so weirdly priced. Our 2025 Camry is $160/mo while our 2025 Model 3LR is $180/mo. Negligible difference in price but $300 is huge. How old are you if you don't mind me asking?
ThickIndication5134@reddit
I’m 35 and while my record is clear now I did get a speeding ticket about 5 years ago while with USAA. Even though it’s off my record now, I’m sure USAA is giving me the “go away” rate because they profile me as a high risk driver or something.
DualPPCKodiak@reddit
I'm in the market for an elantra n in manual. Sick car. But the main reason I can't have an ev is because I can't charge the thing. Can't charge it at home. I can't charge at work. I have to drive 30÷ minutes into the city for a fast charger and wait in line. Or 15 minutes to the slow charger and wait there. I don't think that's changing anytime soon here.
ThickIndication5134@reddit
Yeah, if you can't charge regularly at home an EV doesn't make sense yet.
BlazinAzn38@reddit
YOY growth is still significant. Can’t ignore a doubling
tugtugtugtug4@reddit
The YOY growth is only significant if you take into account cost of each sale. GM was putting 20 grand plus in incentives on many of their EVs for a large chunk of last year. You could get EVs with 50k MSRP for less than 300/month with 0 down on lease all day long for months.
Its easy to have huge sales growth if you slash the price, but huge sales numbers don't mean much if you lose money on each sale, which GM absolutely did.
1AMA-CAT-AMA@reddit
Unless it’s 0 because double 0 is still 0
That aside you’re right.
youknow99@reddit
It would be interesting to put this up against the whole market numbers. Is it more people buying EVs or more people buying EVs from GM?
WeeniePops@reddit
Also, haven't they very recently started offering way more EV options? Is it actually people wanting EV, or just a new interesting model from GM. I know for me personally, I'm not against EV, they just don't make anything I want yet in EV.
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
It's the latter, though more because GM had a lot of trouble getting their EV production up and running. 2024 was really the first year with real sales volumes on the "Ultium" cars.
roctac@reddit
Change happens slowly then very rapidly all at once. Look at s-shaped adoption curve. We could very well possibly be in the exponential phase of the EV adoption curve.
analyticaljoe@reddit
They have some really good EVs in their lineup.
MrDenly@reddit
Lyriq IMHO is the best looking EV out there.
analyticaljoe@reddit
I really want my wife to try one. Could be our next car!
Euphoric-Hyena5455@reddit
I absolutely love my Hummer. It's such a good DD, and at 8 cents per kwh I'm going 300 miles for ~$16
jlauth@reddit
Love these trucks. I wasn't going EV but this would be the one. I got a raptor instead. Probably coating me $55-$60 for 300 miles.
Euphoric-Hyena5455@reddit
How do you like the GT350? There's a Hellion TT local to me that I'm considering.
I miss shifting, and don't want to get back into a Viper (I sold my Gen V before prices went nuts). I really want an analog experience, because I don't get anywhere near that with my current stable.
jlauth@reddit
I'm a Mustang enthusiast so I am bais, but it's an awesome car. I would consider mine slow bc it's mostly stock. I'm sure the TT car would be amazing. Personally I'd rather have a car with a twin screw blower more than TT...but I also miss my Terminator. The TQ makes the car more fun to drive daily imo. With that being said a stock GT350 has no low end Tq, but it's a well balanced car and avg joe can drive it in a spirited way and not be near the limit.
Snoo_31120@reddit
I think the Hummer is one of the coolest EVs out there and hope to get one in the future.
How is the NVH in it? I saw in a throttle house video that the roof panels rattled a lot, but not sure if it was just their unit.
Euphoric-Hyena5455@reddit
I don't notice any road noise. There's not really discernible vibration, and there's absolutely no harshness. It handles imperfections and potholes like they aren't there.
Snoo_31120@reddit
Love to hear it! Do you have the truck version or the SUV?
Euphoric-Hyena5455@reddit
SUV. I test drove the truck version and didn't like it as much. It's a bit longer and i found it didn't fit as easily in parking spots, and in general I don't really use truck beds.
A_Right_Proper_Lad@reddit
The Hummer is one of the least efficient EVs in the market (per kWh), and it still has pretty decent running (fuel) costs.
tugtugtugtug4@reddit
I'd be more interested to see the profit on those sales (or lack thereof). I was shopping for a compact EV SUV this past fall and drove the Blazer and Equinox. GM was throwing money on the hoods of those things like nothing I've ever seen. At one point the Blazer was a hundred dollars less a month on a lease than the equinox, which itself was already quite cheap.
People are driving leased Blazers for $2XX a month. There's no fucking way Chevy is making a profit on those.

This sub CONSTANTLY shits on GM, GM goes on the produce the first fill scale luxury SUV lineup complimented with a truck.
As i always say, this sub will complain about GM, and they will continue o make BILLIONS
thatgymdude@reddit
This sub (along with Reddit itself), is way to obsessed with trends and mirrors journalists and the media way too much. It shows how out of touch they are with the market and honestly consumers. I do like how GM took alot of the features in the Escalade and bought them down to the people who want smaller vehicles. It works incredibly well in the Lyriq and they should consider making a real competitor to the X5/X3 and GLE/GLC and by making a mid sized Escalade and maybe a smaller entry level SUV too.
Because of how the European brands acted with their horrible lease prices and cold dealer experience, GM has a chance to seriously eat into that market with Cadillac, ESPECIALLY if they add Supercruise and all the features for less, and they keep the prices reasonable. The Europeans have been slipping recently in interior and general build quality while charging ever higher amounts. They already have alot of sports cars cornered with the C8 too, and used prices on them are coming down, a mid engined V8 sports car for under 60k is a no brainer.
I also personally want to see them try making a pickup version of the Escalade as I dont need a 3 row SUV but will always need a truck for towing. The GMCs are nice but its just not the same, also midsized trucks are a huge untapped market because Toyota completely dropped the ball there too.
Acceptable-Noise2294@reddit
GM deserves its reputation but it is for sure overhated here

reddit moment
OldManBearPig@reddit
The "Reddit moment" is this subreddit telling GM that nobody will buy their cars since they don't have CarPlay.
Immynimmy@reddit
This sub and every manufacture sub (looking at you especially /r/bmw) is so awful. Stupid takes. Stupid opinions. And rehashing the same shit over and over again.
Frankly I think a lot of the “I would buy this” or “I wouldn’t buy this” are people who are full of shit.
TheReaperSovereign@reddit
I just told some guy this week the z4 was ending production early next year so order one asap. He replied like 3 days later "nah I want one used".
Immynimmy@reddit
I mean. So do I lol.
TheReaperSovereign@reddit
Yeah I get that it will save you 10k+ but enthusiasts refusing to buy new is why we can't have nice things
OldManBearPig@reddit
Because Reddit users are generally young, and young people don't buy new cars. The average age of a new GM vehicle purchaser is 50 years old. Reddit is not the person buying cars.
Barack_Odrama_007@reddit
You say 8 months, id say 6 months.
This sub is extremely out of touch with reality
Ecks83@reddit
Yeah but once it goes bust we'd actually be able to buy a brown manual miata wagon used from the factory!
Wile-E-Coyoteee@reddit
When you show consumers that it has almost all the same apps as CarPlay and data comes with the cars for 8 years. It’s not a big deal for most
Signal_Ball4634@reddit
FR if anything the native infotainment is far better implemented than Carplay/AA, at least in the Cadillacs I've driven.
CatoMulligan@reddit
I don't know which models you've looked at or how long ago it was with Carplay, but as a Cadillac owner who owns an iPhone (both purchased new in 2024), literally the only time I've used the native infotainment is to turn on the FM radio. If I didn't have a smartphone then I'd agree that the Cadillac system is quite good for a factory option, but Carplay just works better for me.
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
How so? I've found it to be vastly inferior.
A number of my apps (Apple Podcasts, Apple Messages) aren't included.
I have to rely on yet another OEM to manage a profile.
I had to sign into all of my shit, again.
I can't take it with me; so when I travel for business, if this is how GM wants to operate moving forward, I definitely don't want one of their vehicles. And this is assuming the rental company is current on the subscription (don't think for a second that the 8 years of pre-payment is gonna last).
IMO, it's a cash grab. Nothing more. People argue that state of charge routing is the differentiator, but CarPlay and AndroidAuto can both do that. GM has chosen to not implement it.
Wile-E-Coyoteee@reddit
Messages come through the system and read to you. You can also still access Siri and have them managed that way.
I don’t use podcast but I feel you because Apple Music doesn’t have an android automotive app
The 8 years is listed on the sticker for vehicle and carry’s over as far as I’ve experienced
But I agree that implementation is much better especially with Apple dragging their feet on CarPlay updates the UI is stale and lacks basic features like weather
Signal_Ball4634@reddit
Personally I thought Maps and music worked great and looked better than Carplay/AA being limited to a small rectangle. Maybe it's just cause I don't really need the car to do a lot more than that. Also I'm on Android and I believe GM's systems are Android-based.
But I think the negatives you outlined about separate sign-ins and travel issues are valid.
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
I agree that maps and music work well, and I think a lot of people who haven't used a real phone integration system/only care about those things will find the system more than adequate right now.
I'll be curious to see if the sentiment remains once they have to start paying for it.
ObligationSlight8771@reddit

It's the same shit over and over. The most popular "enthusiast" cars by definition cannot sell well.
1988rx7T2@reddit
That and the “just give me a basic car with no features” circle jerk. Those don’t sell. The Mitsubishi Mirage did not fly off the lots. People just bought bigger more feature packed used cars over new cheap cars.
TurboSalsa@reddit
"I just want a pickup with vinyl floors and crank windows!" say the people who won't be daily driving it or buying it new under any circumstances.
GoHuskies1984@reddit
Reddit will claim those cheap Mirages didn't fly off lots because dealers didn't stock enough of them in bold colors and manual transmissions.
piddydb@reddit
Kia Stingers were hard to come by. Kia ended production artificially early to move performance buyers to the EV6, not because they weren’t selling.
ObligationSlight8771@reddit

Well I mean, EVs only made up between 4-5% of GM’s total sales soooooo….. yeah most people still don’t want them.
TrippyTrolls@reddit
They sold 2 this quarter instead of 1
WeeniePops@reddit
"GM reported Tuesday it sold 693,363 vehicles in the first quarter"
"Electric vehicle sales nearly doubled in the quarter, rising 94% to 31,887"
Does 4.5% of sales count as people liking EVs?

cookingboy@reddit
I live in the Seattle area, where it feels like every other car on the road is an EV lol. If it were 2 years ago the new Model Y, which came out a couple months ago, would have been a best selling vehicle.
But I’ve literally only seen like 2 on the road so far. I’ve now seen a ton of Lyriqs and even that Acura EV that shares the same platform, along with a ton of other EV brands.
I have a feeling the Elon effect is benefitting all EV sales in the U.S by destroying his own Tesla sales lol
TurboSalsa@reddit
Over on the Tesla investor sub they were saying global Tesla sales falling off a cliff in February was everyone holding off to buy the new Model Y.
w0nderbrad@reddit
The new model Y is NOT moving. I can get one delivered TODAY in my zip code according to the tesla website lol
giantzoo@reddit
it seems people that purchased the launch editions had just started getting theirs in march. seems way too early to make that conclusion lol
w0nderbrad@reddit
If there was ANY demand for this, I'd have to wait at least 1-2 months for this since they have been build to spec for a long time. If they are willing to deliver this thing TODAY, I'm assuming it's because demand cratered or there's been thousands of cancellations in my area alone.
giantzoo@reddit
maybe, maybe not. that's my point atm. they're still running though the launch edition which costs more lol
the_gouged_eye@reddit
I just checked for a few places, and it's available today at all of them, too.
FoShizzleShindig@reddit
We'll have to wait till they burn through the "Launch Edition" with that stupid 12k markup before we can judge.
Oddblivious@reddit
Not necessarily. The previous launch editions moved.
FoShizzleShindig@reddit

The key word is “investor”. They have a vested interest in the hype that’s kept Tesla afloat for years. Tesla this year has lost more value than all other automakers total worth combined. That stock has been overvalued for years thanks to vaporware and “bestest ever product coming soon”. They’re coping while the stock craters.

Best driving is debatable. The Model Y, for example, rides like utter ass.
The refreshed model's suspension is sorely needed.
NoFrame99@reddit
Really? I heard the new one rides incredibly well. Haven’t driven it yet though. Does it ride rough?
barracuuda@reddit
classic reddit moment
NoFrame99@reddit
I’m of the opinion that even in its outgoing form, it was the best driving. There’s a reason it’s the best selling car in the world.
jse000@reddit
By your logic, the Toyota Corolla is the 2nd best driving car in the world.
NoFrame99@reddit
Corolla drives fine, I’d wager it’s sales have more to do with its reliability and price.
jse000@reddit
What specific metrics are you considering when you say the Model Y is "the best driving"?
NoFrame99@reddit
Acceleration, throttle response and mapping (including the regenerative mapping), steering response and precision, suspension and handling although that’s more subjective.
jse000@reddit
Thanks for taking the time to answer! Any performance slanted EV is hard to beat on acceleration, the instant torque is fun. I was way less impressed by the steering/suspension on the Y, felt too stiff for something comfort oriented, too crashy and overall heavy for something performance oriented, but maybe it was just the one I drove.
My experience has been (and I'm not saying that's the case here) is that folks blown away with Teslas are typically having their first exposure to something with any real power and equating 'really fucking fast from a dig' to 'generally amazing'.
Anyway, appreciate the insight again.
NoFrame99@reddit
The biggest differentiator is their throttle tuning. Both the on and off throttle behavior is very impressive and something an ICE car can’t match. In an ev world where drivetrains may as well be homogenous (even though they technically aren’t), throttle tuning is an area that matters more and more.
I do think laypeople get easily impressed by teslas, but I also think what they come to enjoy most about them is the throttle response and tuning (even if they don’t know how to articulate it beyond saying the car feels fast).
007meow@reddit
The new one does ride substantially better. The older ones, even with Tesla's revised "Comfort suspension" are terribad.
I'd say the new one is now par for it's class - not remarkable by any means, but only remarkable when compared to just how bad the old one was.
NoFrame99@reddit
Which comparable car is better to drive than the Y?
007meow@reddit
That depends on what criteria you personally factor in to determine "better."
Handling? Comfort? Performance/acceleration? Software/tech integration? ADAS?
jse000@reddit
I don't think you'll ever get a Tesla stan to provide a meaningful or coherent answer to this question. I think they're great commuter appliances, but I have to imagine anyone proclaiming them to be "the best car ever" has a limited frame of reference.
My xennial equivalent would be walking out of a movie theater as a kid calling The Matrix the greatest movie ever made.
jse000@reddit
Best driving is a stretch and a half. The beauty of a short commute and a free market is that I can buy whatever I want, and trigger snowflakes as a bonus.
NoFrame99@reddit
That’s the spirit!
Buy that Tesla even if it triggers the snowflakes. Don’t let them spoil what is a fantastic car by any metric.

-SUBW00FER-@reddit
Because the ones on the road are foundation series which are more expensive than the regular versions. Thats probably why there are so few.
NCBaddict@reddit
Honestly, the deals (and insurance costs) were way better on non-Tesla EVs last year. Tesla was bound to lose market share due to increased competition at some point.
The politics probably affect things somewhat, but let’s be real… a lot of the overseas tech employees buying EVs care about value and not US politics.
FoShizzleShindig@reddit
Yeah, the new Model Y in China is the most registered EV for the month right now.
biggsteve81@reddit
BYD did triple the volume of Tesla in China last month.
FoShizzleShindig@reddit
BYD makes ICE and PHEV which is roped into that total figure.
ALOIsFasterThanYou@reddit
BYD does report separate sales figures for BEVs and PHEVs, but less frequently than combined figures. Per CNEVPost:
By comparison, during the same Jan-Feb period, Tesla sold 60,480 cars in China.
FoShizzleShindig@reddit
Correct, just clarifying OP's comment. The model Y was the most registered EV in March with \~43k.
biggsteve81@reddit
BYD only makes PHEVs and EVs now. They discontinued ICE cars 3 years ago.
FoShizzleShindig@reddit
My point still stands. Look at the break down.
Dauthdaertya@reddit
I haven't really followed EV markets since I'm an apartment dweller, but why were insurance costs lower for non-Tesla EV's last year specifically?
Danielat7@reddit
Tesla depreciation makes them more likely to be totals. Non-Tesla EVs also depreciate quickly, but not at the same rate. Also, it is a lot easier/faster to get non-Tesla EVs repaired. Tesla Insurance often has 1 year+ waits for spare parts while the longest I've heard for non-Tesla is Hyundai/Kia owners waiting 4-6 months for parts from Korea.
mdp300@reddit
I've only seen a couple Lyriqs (i want one) and one of the Acura, but several of the Honda rhat also rides the same platform.
wookieSLAYER1@reddit

Ancient_Persimmon@reddit

Richard_Lionheart69@reddit
My neighbor is an old apolitical man from China (really nice buy, barely speaks English and spends all day golfing). Just bought the new model y plaid…. I really hope some terminally online man doesn’t deface his car
future_web_dev@reddit
Maybe certain parts. Outside of Kirkland and Bellevue, the roads are still dominated by ICE vehicles.
DavoinShowerHandel@reddit
Meanwhile this sub swore that GM would tank after getting rid of AA/CarPlay
theguy56@reddit
70% of the vehicles GM sold YoY were ICEs and still have AA/Carplay.
The_Exia@reddit
To be fair I think the people buying these don't care. Its not like GM is the only manufacturer who makes an EV without this. Tesla doesn't offer it, Rivian doesn't and I think Lucid recently allowed Carplay.
As long as the UI works its fine and its a Google system which means you have maps built in and you can just add the apps you use to the system like Spotify and log in.
Is it simpler to just plug your phone in? Yes, does it matter once you add the apps to the car and now your set? Not really.
I still prefer AA/Carplay but I can see how people ditching Tesla's and other consumers who want a cheap EV like the Equinox can forgive not having it considering the price and how the UI works fine.
RollingNightSky@reddit
Maybe they care but it's not a deal breaker for them.
Now what if GM gets a good competitor vehicle to them that actually come to the car play. Maybe that would start stealing sales from them. Kinda like how the Japanese competitors in the 70s and 80s stole sales because they were putting in features consumers wanted while GM fell behind.
DavoinShowerHandel@reddit
That's the point I'm making. This sub consistently fails to realize that they are not the target consumer.

aprtur@reddit
Getting "lot rot" and ~40% discounts to attempt to move units doesn't really bode well for market confidence in them. My guess is that businesses are looking at Rivian instead, since they already have a fleet track record with Amazon to go off of.
FlyingVentana@reddit
i completely forgot that thing existed
aprtur@reddit
Yeah, IIRC, FedEx was supposed to buy boatloads of them, and for some reason that fell through. In Rivian's case, Amazon pumped a ton of money into their operations by buying that Van fleet. I'm sure Chevy wasn't thrilled about their situation with FedEx.
Hungry-Plankton-5371@reddit
EV vans dont have enough range to replace fleet cargo vans and step vans in any meaningful capacity for the most part. amazon uses them to deliver in city areas but anything else where you need to go further than 100mi in a day they are basically a non-starter.

My anec-data is that I'm already seeing quite a few Equinoxes around in my EV-heavy area. The subscription pushing sucks, but the pricing is crazy good and I don't think there's anything wrong with them so far. I suppose the sub pushing might be how they got the price down, of course.
Lyriqs are more rare but I have seen one or two on the road so far, along with a Sierra EV yesterday.
Insanity-Paranoid@reddit
I live in New Jersey, and I don't see many consumers driving Chevy EVs.
I see a lot of mall security, airport security, and municipal vehicles, which are now Chevy EVs. The Blazer, Equinox, and Silverado EVs have been sold via fleet sales around me. I see them pretty often around my area, and it makes sense.
The Chevy EVs can be charged overnight with 19kw charging, which means they can be used almost to 0% charge and then be perfectly ready the next day. It probably saves a lot of money and should even simplify the logistics of fleet vehicles. Reduced maintenance, no need for sourcing and storing gasoline, no emission regulations, no yearly inspection, etc. Besides that, the current GM offering is very practical compared to what Ford or Tesla are currently offering. For example, the Chevy Silverado EV is arguably better designed than its current gasoline counterpart with things like the folding midgate alongside an improved 360° camera.
Snoo_31120@reddit
In Toronto I see probably 2-3 lyriqs everyday, and I dont even go out that much. They are probably the most common non-tesla EV here.
DudebuD16@reddit
Ya either the Mach e, lyriq or polestar. They're definitely the most common non Tesla's.

GM is giving away the Equinoxes on lease at a loss
Wile-E-Coyoteee@reddit
The $7,500 tax credit is doing a lot of heavy lifting in those monthly payments you see
Richard_Lionheart69@reddit
I wonder if it’s cheaper to lease and immediately buyout (can’t qualify for the rebate through a regular purchase)
Wile-E-Coyoteee@reddit
I’d check the terms but I know with the GMCs I work with the $7,500 is used and increases the lease residual to lower payment
Richard_Lionheart69@reddit
In that case no, and I would be better off trying to find someone dumping a lightly used who got the rebate
KyledKat@reddit
That’s what I did for my Bolt EUV. 18 months-old, 15k miles, one-owner who traded it in for a Blazer EV, and I claimed the $4k used EV rebate. Dealer wouldn’t budge from their $22.5k list price, but that was already almost half the original MSRP.
That said, the EV lease deals at GM are almost better than the depreciation I’m expecting to see on my Bolt, and there’s a real strong consideration for grabbing an Equinox based on the deals I’ve seen on Leasehackr.
Wile-E-Coyoteee@reddit
I’d check with a local big dealer with inventory they’ll definitely know all the ways
My_Bwana@reddit
Live in an affluent area in NE Florida and I see so many fucking lyriqs these days haha
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Model Y on the road yet despite the numbers suggesting that they should be everywhere
tmothy07@reddit
In Austin, so ground-zero for seeing lots of Cybertrucks, but I've been seeing lots of Hummer EVs, Caddy Lyriqs, Blazer EVs, Rivians, VW EVs, Hyundai EVs, and Lucids lately. Still a ton of Model 3s and Ys on the road, but the number of competitors feels like it has increased a lot.
PetitRorqualMtl@reddit
The Equinox is really popular, at least where I live. About 80% of every Equinox EV sold in Canada were sold in Québec. I see them at almost every other corner!
It was on my shopping list for when the time to say goodbye to my Volt comes. But now, I’m not so sure I wanna buy another American car with everything that is going on. Maybe I’ll get an ID.4 or an Ioniq 5…
