Jamaican_Dynamite@reddit
I get the context they're using it, but lmao It's Porsche's definition of stealthy. We'll agree there.
arcangelxvi@reddit
You say that, but Porsches are kind of the poster child for stealthy performance cars if we ignore things like the GT cars. Most of their competitors look way more shouty and your average 911 just kind of disappears into the crowd depending on your neighborhood.
sku11emoji@reddit
Definitely not my neighborhood
inaccurateTempedesc@reddit
Mine got gentrified in the span of a few years. Went from Buicks, Jellybean Expeditions, and GMT800s to Bentaygas, Cullinans, and Cybertrucks.
boomerbill69@reddit
I mean, a 911 is still gonna look pretty unique compared to these. You know...assuming you can actually see the car because it isn't obscured by these behemoths.
UnmakingTheBan2022@reddit
Howās that soft dick of yours?
Ran4@reddit
Haha heat the hell are you on about. 98% of people will not spot the difference between a Cayman and a McLaren or whatever.
SirLoremIpsum@reddit
The stealth part of Porsche is most of us can't tell the difference between the 911 and the GT3 RS without a real good look
I mean yeah the giant spoiled on some models but absent that
Jamaican_Dynamite@reddit
Definitely not my neighborhoodĀ either. š Maybe a used M3 or a C63 could.
Jack-of-the-Shadows@reddit
Yeah, if you put a C8 next to a porsche the corvette is like 10 times as "loud" in terms of styling.
roll_wave@reddit
If by stealthy, they mean as common as a Toyota Camry in Southern California, then they are right on. They are incognito because they blend in so well with all the other ones.
Free-Wolf-4523@reddit
I'm sure the car is wonderful like most Porsches are but the pricing is out of control. In 2019, a Carrera S started $106K and for comparison, a Corvette Z06, Lotus Evora 400, and Lexus LC 500 were around $90-95K starting. Now, an Emira and LC 500 are around $100K, and a Z06 is about $115K. This 911 has an MSRP of $158,000? A Carrera S now costs what a 992.1 GT3 (this same generation!) cost only about three years ago. How far can they push the price before people are no longer willing to pay it?
Antique_Bullfrog_588@reddit
Iād say about 25% more
kraken_enrager@reddit
Tbh if I was in the market, the lc500 entices me so much more than a 911. I donāt even fit into its buyer pool.
Nine_block@reddit
They will push it until the dealer ADMs fall away
Ran4@reddit
The rich have been getting richer. It's not a big issue.
tyfe@reddit
I believe thatās what theyāre looking to find out. Ā No complaints from me tho, keeps my 991.2 price healthy.
Averylarrychristmas@reddit
This car is so wildly overpriced itās insulting.
$180k doesnāt even get you a loaded carrera S.
Shameful.
Jarthos1234@reddit
Also, no manual transmission option and a soulless digital dash. So lame. Save the the money and get a 997 or if you want to burn 180k-200k get a 991 gt3 touring.
IStillLikeBeers@reddit
Doesn't it? I've optioned one exactly how I'd want if money was no consideration and it's about $180k.
ttltaway@reddit
Really thereās almost no such thing as āloadedā with Porsches.
If you want to give them more money, Porsche will find something to supply you with in exchange.
RBR927@reddit
Leather wrapped lug nuts are my favorite option.
hermitcraftfan135@reddit
I mean $180k is nearly all options, isnāt it?
cookingboy@reddit
Man Porsche pricing is absolutely out of control. Thatās fully loaded GT3 price from like 7 years ago, for a Carrera S.
And with the new tariff, we will be looking at $200k+ Carrera S lol.
The rest of the review is just the same bullshit Porsche ass-kissing. Such as
lol really? I thought the GTS hybrid was āamazing at eliminating turbo lag and improving throttle responseā, but the non-hybrid suddenly now has ānear instant throttle responseā???
BahnMe@reddit
Porsche prices have definitely exceeded inflation.
Then again, they price it that way because people keep buying it. Iām curious if they can maintain their pricing when China has collapsed as a market for Porsche and we see a worldwide global slowdown in trade.
Iām a huge Porsche fan but at 180k I think Iām going to get something more exotic.
falcon0159@reddit
Serious question, what is more exotic for $180k? You arenāt getting anything new for that money (at least that I can think of).
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
You can get an Emira and a base C8 for what Porsche want for a Carrera S
Crybabyredditmod@reddit
Iād rather have a 911 than both of those cars. Quality over quantity.
triplevanos@reddit
A C8 stingray and a C8 Z06 can be had together for just the price of a C2S. And the Z06 is going to be a much more thrilling car.
Shit, the ZR1 is starting for less than this C2S with options
lostfate2005@reddit
C8 is an ugly car
triplevanos@reddit
I simply disagree. I find a C8 Z06 a lot more interesting and exciting to look at than a regular 911. Different strokes I guess
lostfate2005@reddit
Cool!
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
You been in a base 911? The quality isnāt magical.
EloeOmoe@reddit
I had a demo base 718 a few times while my Panamera was in the shop and the interior in that was dreadful.
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
People get butthurt when I tell them itās like a GTI unless you throw money at Porsche.
Particular_Flower111@reddit
The interiors have always been a major weakness in the boxster/cayman models. I think a big reason why 718 Spyder RS and GT4 RS prices are falling is because itās really hard to justify that interior when you could get a GT3 or Turbo for similar money.
It works okay on the base models, but for the high end trims itās way too subpar. A C8 is nicer inside.
EloeOmoe@reddit
Like all Porsche's, you can easily spend 20k over base price in just making the interior up to par with it's peers.
Crybabyredditmod@reddit
Agreed but the base price of this car is 146k. The tested price of 180k (enough for a C8 and emira) is enough to option out the full leather interior and 18 way seats.
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
Thatās both true and deranged. I wonder if sales will continue to grow. I just couldnāt fathom spending that much on a carrera. Theyāre fun cars, but theyāre not what the internet says they are.
tyfe@reddit
You didnāt say base 911 tho, you said S.
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
I meant without spending $20K in options. The S doesnāt affect the interior.
thejetssuckbigtime@reddit
You couldnāt pay me to drive a base c8. And I have a zr1 on order
essequattro@reddit
Z06 starts at 110k, Corvette isnāt an āexoticā name but the performance is nothing short of exotic, and the experience (engine) is surely much more exciting than a base turbo carrera.
Then the ZR1, which is a true super/hypercar beater, starts at 175kā¦
falcon0159@reddit
I like the C8. Itās a great car that performs extremely well. A fantastic sports car. I wouldnāt call them exotic though.
The simple choices are emira and c8 in terms of that class. Someone mentioned the AM Vantage, but those can be optioned to over $300k with relative ease, so not sure itās the same price point. Iāve heard disappointing things about the emira. I liked it when I drove it for a few minutes, but every one I know that owns it is not happy with it.
Now the C8 is the simple choice if youāre on a budget, but it simply isnāt as good as the 911. Im not even talking about performance, but everything else. Itās a great car, but the 911 - even a base one is better. I had a Z06 on order and I backed out because the 911S I had at the time is a better overall car, at a similar, but slightly higher price point.
I do agree that the equation is changing with Porsches crazy price increases though. And if I needed to pull cash out of my fleet for something else, I would certainly sell the Ferrari and GT3 and grt some sort of corvette convertible to replace them.
essequattro@reddit
just curious, what about a Z06/ZR1 (not a Stingray) do you think is not exotic? If it's just the brand name/lack of exclusivity, I get it, but to me that's not a good reason not to buy it.
falcon0159@reddit
I would say the name, dealer experience, sales numbers and interior feel arenāt exotic. They are obviously extremely well performing cars. No doubt there, but thatās only part of the picture. There are plenty of normal cars that are fast, that doesnāt make them exotic.
The model s plaid has crazy acceleration numbers, rivals many super cars in terms of 0-60. I would never call it an exotic though. A 911 isnāt even really an exotic imo. Its a sports car. I think exotics start with Mclaren, Lambo, Ferrari. There has to be a certain amount of rarity to it. The Corvette doesnāt have that because they build 50k a year and they all look the same. I have a hard time telling apart base vs z06 vs zr1. Normal people will just see Corvette whether you are in a $60k base or a $200k zr1.
Ill give you an example of a test, I went to a mcdonalds drive thru and the guy taking payment said holy shit is that a ferrari? Doesnt matter that its worth less and performs worse than a corvette. An exotic needs to have a certain aura about it. I would say my Ferrari is more exotic than the gt3 despite the fact that once again, worth less and performs worse.
EloeOmoe@reddit
You can get new Aston's and Maserati's for roughly 2k a month lease if you push real hard for it.
falcon0159@reddit
Maseratiās yes, I havenāt seen a similar deal for the aston yet, but it just came out so maybe soon.
initial_launch@reddit
Exactly. I wish there was more competition in the price range, but the next āexoticā thing would be a Ferrari or Lambo which is nowhere near 180k. An AMG GT63 and V8 Vantage are cool, but still lack the āPorsche feelingā. Although an argument can be made for the MC20 or a used McLarenā¦the Porsche experience is just an overall much better experience.
Hence why I still stick with Porsche (until I can afford a 812 competizione or LaFerrariā¦the latter of which I may never in this lifetime š¢).
BahnMe@reddit
Like they mention in the video, the AM Vantage starts at 191k but AM are much more willing to negotiate prices.
falcon0159@reddit
Yeah, it starts at $190k, but its not hard to put $100k of options in one. I aat in one recently with a $330k sticker. Even at 15% off, thatās still $280k plus tax.
Excellent-Camp-1351@reddit
Thatās because the AM will fall off a cliff depreciation wise. 911s hold their value extremely well.Ā
RightProperFancyLad@reddit
With 180k I'd consider a used V10 R8 or McLaren 570s for 130k and have 50k left for repairs or extended warranty.
R_V_Z@reddit
Hell, for $180k I'd finally get a first gen Maserati Ghibli.
BahnMe@reddit
Hell yeah
tyfe@reddit
Yea but everything else has gone up too. A new Temerario starts at $300k and thatās even if you can get one. A 296 starts at $350k too.
frost-bite999@reddit
China market has already slowed down big time before COVID
stav_and_nick@reddit
I feel like on the budget/stretching side, the Corvette is more temping than ever, and on the "more money than God" side you have a whole swath of exotics kicking around
Hell, buy a 2001 AM Vantage for like $50k CAD and another $50k in repairs and you'll have a cheaper, markedly more unique car
SireEvalish@reddit
I hate to do the meme, but at that price I'm getting a Z06 or ZR1. But I'm also not in the tax bracket that buys these so what do I know.
a-jasem@reddit
The Carrera S started at $113k back in 2020. Adjusted for inflation thatās $130k today. Add on about 10-15k in options and thatād be more reasonable, relatively speaking. Now that money gets you a modestly optioned base Carrera lol
EloeOmoe@reddit
Every car I've ever been in that "eliminated turbo lag" still had very obvious turbo lag.
snweasel@reddit
In Europe the price starts at 163k Eur, like wtf, but then again, if people buy them at these ridiculous prices Porsche will ask ridiculous prices.
dreaminphp@reddit
Annoyingly perfect is why I got rid of my GT4 for an Evora. That lasted about 3 months until I was back in a P car lol
haad55@reddit
Youāve great and diverse taste in cars.
gunfox@reddit
Annoyingly great
dreaminphp@reddit
thanks bro!
strongmanass@reddit
You own all of those right now? I'm just thinking about the size of your garage. It must be well over 2000 square feet.
dreaminphp@reddit
Yes, but no I just have a regular 3 car garage. I let friends/family drive them a lot though so usually I can fit what's home in my garage + driveway.
bon_mots@reddit
How does insurance work in that case ?
dreaminphp@reddit
Same as any other car that you let your friend or family drive
Pitiful-Walrus5102@reddit
Youāre nice. I put in a lift last year. Thinking Iāll put in another. Or maybe sell a car.
to_the_victors_91@reddit
Whatās your favorite car in your garage? I love the idea of a 964, but have never owned an old P car (owned lots of old German cars though)
Pitiful-Walrus5102@reddit
For a fun drive, the 964 rs, and itās not particularly close. To me itās the perfect blend of analog feel, light weight, and good looks. The steering is next level. The motor pulls hard enough it never feels slow (even though it is slow compared to modern cars). It just provides an experience unlike any other.
For a daily, Iād say the M3 comp. It replaced a 992.1 911 and way more comfort and usability without sacrificing much in the way of performance. Sure itās numb, but honestly so are normal modern 911s.
One car I loved but didnāt keep for long for a 2021 AMG gtr. That car felt special to drive. Looked great. Had next level steering and feel for a big long-nosed sports car. The worst part about that car is that the ride became tiresome quickly, and the bi-turbo v-8 was somehow unimpressive.
TurdBurgerlar@reddit
Oh hey! It's me, your long lost brother. š„²
kers2000@reddit
Which car would you say give you the most joy?
dreaminphp@reddit
4RS. Iād sell every other car and my house before I sold it š
kers2000@reddit
Noice.
TheRealPizza@reddit
you deserve these cars for putting up with php
GimmeChickenBlasters@reddit
PHP has been great to work with since 8, especially with Laravel. You couldn't pay me enough to work with Java or JS on the backend again.
dreaminphp@reddit
lmao i love php. would rather deal with it than js or java
strongmanass@reddit
Your friends and family must be very happy with that. I'm sure they're hoping you don't move to a property with a custom garage.
JEs4@reddit
Was there something wrong with the Evora or was it just not up to the task?
dreaminphp@reddit
it was a great car, it was just hard going from a Porsche to a Lotus lol
RNKKNR@reddit
Other than brand recognition and prestige and the fact that the Evora comes with a Toyota engine - what exactly were problems with the Evora?
Dales_Dead_Bug_@reddit
Iām sure build quality is a massive part of it. Very few cars feel as solid as Porsches doĀ
Ran4@reddit
That's really not true. They're ok but creaks are all around.
Medical-Gate-9978@reddit
Lmao
EloeOmoe@reddit
It's held together by glue.
UltimaRS800@reddit
So is Porsche
backpackrack@reddit
To be fair it's much better glue.
Particular_Flower111@reddit
Build quality aside, the Infotainment, dealer network, parts availability, and aftermarket support are all vastly better with Porsche.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Yeahhhh why I went from a Cayman to a 4C, will probably get another Cayman.
Crybabyredditmod@reddit
Porsche ruined almost every other sports car for meš. Thereās no going back once you drive one.
backpackrack@reddit
Depends on what you like but Porsches are truly annoyingly good. I don't even want to like them but every time I drive one I get it.
Want to bomb down the autobahn at 140 MPH for hours at a time? Want to be in perfect comfort? Want to have surprisingly good storage? Want your wife not to complain about noise? Want it to run every time you turn it on? Want to set a voodoo stupid lap at the ring? Want to resell it for what you bought it for 2 years later?
Ran4@reddit
That's not applicable to their coupes. They're very loud inside.
UltimaRS800@reddit
Only real Porsche i've driven (i am not counting SUVs) is 992 911 Turbon S and i did not feel that at all. There are tons of fun cars still and none of them sound like vacuum cleaners. 488 GTB Ferrari was vastly better, i also much prefered a C8 Z06 to that 911. I am sure GT 911s are different though.
MaraudingWalrus@reddit
Me growing up with my dad having 911s and me driving a Kia through most of my 30s.
Hoping the next car might be a Taycan, if prices are right.
laylowlazlo@reddit
Should have gotten a Lotus Elise
burntcookie90@reddit
I got rid of my GT4 for an Emiraā¦
silvab@reddit
How's that going? Enjoying more or less than the GT4?
burntcookie90@reddit
Yes
In reality: itās both better and worse. Itās a better street car, eye candy and special car. Itās a far worse track car. I had 35 track days on my GT4 but that rate per year was slowing down and I had gotten what I needed out of that car.Ā
Richard_Lionheart69@reddit
You got that stable coding php?
dreaminphp@reddit
Yessir
mcbawk@reddit
Here we go again. Another round of paid advertising disguising as journalistic auto reviews pushing yet another over priced product from Porsche.Ā
These reviews always get released at the same time by multiple journalists all using the exact same talking points/language that somehow say this new model is so much more perfect then the last perfect 911 we just talked about 4 months ago.
I hate what Porsche has become. Everytime I read one of these lame articles it pushes me further away from ever going back to Porsches.
ApatheticFinsFan@reddit
Do you know how product launches work?
dustygator@reddit
(Not attempting to justify, just explain)
When they have a big product launch, Porsche has enough PR budget to fly out a bunch of journalists and content creators to a central location, wine, dine and spiel them and let them drive press cars for a week. (Instead of the traditional approach of shipping cars to the journalists to test in their own location/set-up).
It builds good will with the most influential voices in the enthusiast community and yes there every reason to be skeptical. Some of the talking points will straightforward stuff that everyone would see the same way, some will be natural as like-minded folks bounce off each other and some will have been deliberately refined and fed to them by the Porsche sales/PR/engineering employees at the event.
If it tastes fake, it's because some of it is. But there is also some undeniable truth. As one of the most prestigious brands of the largest auto conglomerate in the world, Porsche have the engineering budget to refine their designs in a way that Lotus/McLaren simply don't. And I can respect that work even if their products/brand don't speak to me the same way it did in past.
"If you're going to form a relationship with a car, if you're going to develop a bond, it's got to have human qualities. And if it's going to have human qualities, it's got to have faults."Ā
mcbawk@reddit
Thanks for the perspective. I agree with your explanation. However, I do believe Porsche is over leveraging their brand. Porsche's brand is prestigious in its heritage and within VW's heirarchy, but their no Ferrari. They made 40k 911's alone last year. McLaren made less then 2000 total of every model.Ā
Their new market strategy ever since going public is very private equity esque. They are making more cars than ever, increasing the "value" of said units, while their model line has evolved into the mundane. It feels like a pump and dump.
I know people like to use the word "refined" when describing modern Porsches, but refinement is not something I find akin to a sports car. In fact, my biggest gripe with the Lotus is that the refinement bastardized any meaningful sportiness in it. Instead of the best of both worlds, you get the worst of both.Ā
Having owned new Porsches as well as numerous other exotics and crazy track cars, Porsches' current production line just doesn't match its price tag. Every time I go out to buy a new 911, I always end up getting something else. They just aren't at all remarkable for what they are selling for. Words can not describe how unbelievably better a McLaren is to drive than a 911. They just aren't on the same planet, yet fully optioned turbos are eclipsing Arturas and the GTS.
These articles are just Porsches way to keep drumming up their product line in leau of their ever increasing price hikes and super aggressive push to fit their product into a more upscale market while providing meager evolutions of a stagnated platform caused by their own complacency from their current success.
Ran4@reddit
They're refined when it doesn't matter - the driving (when driving for fun), but not where it does (like comfort or interior feel).
mcbawk@reddit
That's exactly it.
Yeezus__@reddit
couldn't agree more. I own a measley base cayman, I love it and think it's better than the 911 platform. If i had the money for a new 992 S (180k range), I would rather just move up to the 720S or Ferrari range. Porsche 911s are ugly and boring.
thejetssuckbigtime@reddit
I had money burning a hole in my pocket for a 3RS and I even played their stupid games to be āin lineā for a 3RS but they still wouldnāt let me buy one. I ended up buying a 750s and I donāt regret it one bit. At this point they kind of lost me as a customer with the dealer games.
Oil_McTexas@reddit
Great
BiscuitTheRisk@reddit
Thatās how embargoes work.
Ghost1k25@reddit
This time, the Carrera S has no turbo lag AT ALL. Say what? You have $30k+ extra for a GTS? Oh well then Carrera S is a POS with last-gen technology and youād be ridiculous to put up with that much turbo lag.
SignificantOversight@reddit
This is why I'm not a super huge fan of German vehicles. I test rode a BMW S1000RR and was so bored, despite being in a 400lb 200hp death machine. It was so refined, so perfect, that it just lacked character.
I felt the same way when looking at Porsches last year when I bought my first high end car. They were too planted, too right, not imperfect enough. Ended up settling on a big Blackwing and my wife still gives me side eye for it.
asdfoneplusone@reddit
Definitely should try an early gen panigale v4
Tetris_Prime@reddit
The most crazy thing about maturing is realizing that the beauty of the Porsche 911s is consistency over time.
More or less all of them drive great and are great cars.
I_Am_Vladimir_Putin@reddit
Yet people made fun of Nissan for keeping the GT-R around a long time. Go figure.
Educational_Age_1333@reddit
Yeah the styling never changing for Porsche sports cars makes me completely uninterested in them. Anyone else would get ridiculed for it. Porsche gets praised for it.Ā
But that's kind of how that fan base is about anything Porsche does.Ā
earlyiteration@reddit
Cheap
a-jasem@reddit
The Carrera S started at $113k back in 2020. Adjusted for inflation thatās $130k today. Add on about 10-15k in options and thatād be more reasonable, relatively speaking. Now that money gets you a modestly optioned base Carrera lol
