Serbia/Macedonia - address registration

Hi,
In May we are planning a trip through the Balkans and we stumbled upon the requirement of registration of the address of the stay when entering the country. I know it's usually on the hotel's side to do that - however here comes the problem.
We don't have the places and dates set in stone and got only hotel booked for the beginning of the trip in Serbia - our next destinations will be spontaneous, so we might book a hotel in the same day or even sleep in a tent or car. What can we do if we don't know the address where we will sleep? Also, when hotels/private owners register us, should we receive any document?

I never registered in Serbia, and I spent some weeks there. Nobody cares about this law seemingly.

Ok so I don’t know about Serbia, but in Macedonia the general rule of thumb is you have to register your presence with the local police if you plan on staying for a week or two. Now for people who arrive by plane I know that airport immigration officials will give you a card that you give the police to register your stay. You just give them the card and the address where you’ll be staying and thats it, its more of a formality than anything else. Then when you are concluding your trip you go to the police station again to de-register and they’ll stamp that card again. Then you give the card along with your passport to the airport immigration officer and thats it.
However if you’re entering the country by land the rules are more lax you’re still expected to register and de-register with the police but no one will hold it against you at land borders if you don’t. Don’t hold me to my word about this I’m just relaying things I’ve seen and heard from others 😆

* In Macedonia, It is the responsibility of the provider. Very often, they just won't do it. But that's not your obligation. Have fun on your trip! ☀️
