Been seeing wiring projects the last few days, here’s my setup in my e21

I’ve got about 500 miles of testing done so far, once I hit 2500 I’ll go ahead and Tessa tape the transitions. Overall I’ve been very impressed with the Auxbeam system and the Powertune Digital display.

imma need you to come over and do mine

Let’s gooo where you at?
Flor_Mertens@reddit
Which connectors did you use?
92screamingeagle@reddit (OP)
They are Deutsche DT series connectors. It’s 18 AWG M22759/32 wire with a Kevlar binder and Raychem DR25 sheathing. I used for the M22759/16 2 awg for the main power feed and grounding. I used 4 bulkhead connectors to be able to remove the chassis harnesses without taking anything apart.

Thanks for sharing the connector and wiring details.
I'm working on a weekend fun car update of a Porsche 928 with an LS1 swap but don't want the aftermarket ECU in the engine bay. I'd been looking at using Tyco AMPseal connectors, but they're intended for wire to PCB, not wire to wire connections.
Beautifully executed harness sir!

I’m also working on a k24 turbo build for my 996 c2. That 928 sounds sick! I was gonna go Ls route but I put 20k miles on it last year, it’s a wonderful GT car.

I'd recommend mil-spec circular bulkhead connectors. The can be quite cost effective, for example, we're able to import some from the US with 61pins for less than 200dollars- which is good when you're comparing them to the autosport versions.
However, if that's still not in budget, perhaps Deutsch HDP / HD connectors, still circular and have higher pin densities, but use plastic housings and are a little more cost effective if looking for a high density pin count.
ironman454@reddit
So I should do a bulkhead connector is what you're saying? Do you have a recommendation?
92screamingeagle@reddit (OP)
When you reach the bulkhead, it requires a fitting. Carb’d car like this I went with the Deutsche DT flanged 12 pin and they are 10 dollars each side. If I was wiring something with ECU etc like that I would go with the above advice. This is a weekend cruiser for me, something to take to shows learn as much about car setup etc. Just dont go with autosport connectors you will have to give a chunk of flesh.

Thanks mate!

Nice to see some deutsch connectors and DR25! We just did a MaxxECU install in an E21 on ITB's quite recently! Lovely cars!

I’ve heard good things about Maxx ecu! I bet it was a fun project. Thanks for the comment 😎🫡

Holy shit

I want another e21 for my next project, and I would absolutely replace all of the crusty bmw wiring as well haha.
Any drivetrain info on this?
92screamingeagle@reddit (OP)
How much information do you want? Haha it’s a pretty stock m10 with dual 40 dcoes. Running the msd ignition system, Carter low pressure fuel pump with an aeromotive dual output fuel pressure regulator. Chase bays booster delete kit and a wilwood clutch master. All new hard lines and bulkhead fittings to PTFE lined brake lines. Chase Bays oil cooler as well.
mega_rad@reddit
That’s really what I was curious about, I know some people go crazy with m10’s. I really want to eventually do a mild turbo k24 in an e21 in the next few years. There is enough e30s running them now I could definitely make some of the swap parts work

Like this one?
mega_rad@reddit
A man of culture I see
92screamingeagle@reddit (OP)
Well it’s going in my 51k 996. Are you anywhere near Seattle? We should like fast friends haha I am developing the wiring setup to be bring to market. My primary business is marine service and electrical but moving more towards car stuff.
mega_rad@reddit
Nope - I live in Ohio, but you definitely have some rad projects going on haha
92screamingeagle@reddit (OP)
Thank you!! I hope you get another e21, I had one ten years ago and sold it. Feels great to be back in one again.

Nice engine bay!
92screamingeagle@reddit (OP)
Thank you!
voodoo_u@reddit
Oh man. I’ve never seen anyone do anything with an e21. I lowkey enjoyed mine a lot, maybe in some ways more than my e30. Super easy to work on. Cool build.
spotdishotdish@reddit
I haven't done much with my 323i other than fix things lol. It was already lowered with BBS in the 80s.
ZaMelonZonFire@reddit
Very clean. Much race.
92screamingeagle@reddit (OP)
I can get the entire chassis harness out in about 5 minutes 😂🤣
otto_347@reddit
Lol thanks for introducing me to AuxBeam
92screamingeagle@reddit (OP)
I’ve had a lot of success with their stuff, I’ve done 4 systems now. One has been in service for 2 years in a dredge support skiff that even sank once at the dock and still works great.
HSLB66@reddit
Auxbeam is so good, I don't really understand the point of buying something like an S-Pod for seemingly 4-5x more
You did a great job!
92screamingeagle@reddit (OP)
I’ve worked with them for a few years now and s pod before that. I’ve used the Auxbeam on multiple skiff systems as well with great durability. Depending on complexity and number of needed outputs, I might still be inclined to use spod on a 10 or more channel system and the Bluetooth ability from spod is nice.
