What car should I buy?

I’m currently driving a Subaru Impreza sport. This is the second Subaru i’ve owned. The first one I had made me fall in love with the brand but the second one has caused me a lot of headaches. I’m exploring other options for when I go to purchase my next car in a few months. Typically I’d like a car in the same style (something sporty), all-wheel-drive, something as big as thr size of a Subaru Crosstrek or a tiny bit bigger, a brand that’s reliable. I would love to be able to travel in it long distance, and something that isn’t a complete gas guzzler.
I don’t know much about cars, so if you have a recommendation that fits those qualities please share!

Mazda CX-30, Honda HR-V, Toyota Corolla Cross
elonrocks@reddit
those cars suck, get a Genesis g80 v8 with htrac
jaquatics@reddit
You could buy two of these cars for the price of that.
elonrocks@reddit
only because it's double the car...
why would anybody buy a 4 cylinder when they could have an 8? never has made sense to me. You can drive a 4 cylinder hard and get 25 mpg, you can drive an 8 cylinder nicely and get 25 mpg.
But when you need that power to safely navigate traffic, I'd rather have the extra power underfoot than a totalled 4 cylinder.

Wants something comparable to an Impreza, an entry level car, you suggest a luxury boat that's nothing like what they asked for.
The 4 cylinder Mazda 3 turbo is half a second slower 0-60 than the G80 V8. 4 cylinder engines just getting totalled left and right out there huh? What are you talking about?
elonrocks@reddit
I'm just recommending a good vehicle that meets his criteria without suggesting the gayest cars I can think of.
I wouldn't touch a 4 cylinder. I owned a 6 cylinder once or twice but it wouldn't make sense to me to own a 4 cylinder so I'm not going to recommend one to somebody looking for a new car.

Thank you for your recommendation. I should’ve elaborated better, I didn’t mean sporty as in fast and used the wrong word to describe what I was looking for (that’s my bad). I feel like my Impreza is sportiest car ive owned. I’m also a girl who knows nothing about cars. I’m just looking for recommendations on other cars similar to AWD Subaru models. Anything I can drive through tough terrains

Thank you for your recommendation. I’ll be doing my research on that one!
Glarmj@reddit
None of those are remotely sporty, including the Impreza.
jaquatics@reddit
I'd argue the Mazda 3 turbo is somewhat sporty. Hard to do sporty and AWD. WRX is pretty much it but they want to get away from Subaru.

Felt like it to me lol

Love that answer thanks soooo much!

Just writing this to give this person a thumbs up on selection. If it's a robotic post if it was a very good AI response.
jaquatics@reddit
Nah I just like cars
ARatOnPC@reddit
It’s not hard to be sportier than a Subaru Impreza. They are very underpowered compared to average car of 2025.
jaquatics@reddit
Sporty to me means driving dynamics not power. A Miata is as sporty as they come and definitely not fast.
oshunthoughts@reddit (OP)
I guess sporty to everyone can be described differently. I should’ve elaborated better. For me I guess I just mean 4x4 vehicles, or any that do well with driving on different types of terrains (up hills, dirt roads, snow/mud, shitty roads)
oshunthoughts@reddit (OP)
Okay, well can you offer any suggestions?
jrileyy229@reddit
Are you talking new or used?
Do you really need AWD?
oshunthoughts@reddit (OP)
Used. And I would like it for it to be all-wheel-drive but I’m open to hearing other options. I live in Connecticut and I like to hike so I’m usually finding myself on dirt roads, driving in snow year round. In the terrain that I drive I find that all-wheel-drive cars just make the drive smoother.
jrileyy229@reddit
Smoother no... That's not how that works, but if you need to get around in fresh snow and mud, then yes.
Outside of that, can't imagine people giving recommendations when they have no idea if you want to spend 3k or 30k.
oshunthoughts@reddit (OP)
I’m aware of how it works. All wheel drive is meant for those types of road conditions which is what I tend to go for AWD and if your familiar with that sort of terrain you’d know that mud exists on dirt roads along with pot holes, gravel and anything else you’d want a AWD car for.
Inserting my budget range is useless when I’m curious to hear recommendations that fit the criteria of what I’m looking for. If you don’t have any recommendations to give, you don’t need to insert yourself in the conversation. Thanks, bye.

Subaru Crosstrek ? I’ve just got one and it’s a nice car indeed.
oshunthoughts@reddit (OP)
That was my initial plan to continue up the Subi fam but the Impreza I have has been giving me so many issues I am just becoming frustrated with Subaru in general, so I’m seeing what other options are available. But I agree the crosstreks are gorgeous. I am obsessed with the body and style of the car

Sorry to hear about your Impreza troubles, it’s always a bummer when a brand you love lets you down. Since you like sporty AWD cars, you might want to check out the Mazda CX-30 or the Honda HR-V. Both are reliable, great for long trips, and get decent mileage. The CX-30 especially feels a bit more upscale and fun to drive. If you’re open to something slightly bigger, the Toyota RAV4 could be a solid pick too.

Sweet. Thank you for your comment. My cousin has a Toyota RAV4 and she absolutely loves it. I will do some research on these. Have you ever owned any of those?
