digvijay singh ...oh my how can I forget that 3rd class btard who was gonna frame 26/11 as right wing hindu extremism attack instead of the actual terrorist LeT ? Tukaram Omble Tumhi sarvān̄cyā hr̥dayāta amara rāhā
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
I think Americans might be confused seeing this comment haha
BRAVO_Eight@reddit
God bless Late Tukaram Omble . He literally charged towards the two terrorists in car & caught one of them even at the cost of his own life
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
The situation in the early hours of the attacks were really grim, the Mumbai Police had no real experience in large scale, coordinated attacks like this by heavily armed and trained operatives. Due to under-funding, most police stations only had SMLEs and revolvers, with only few 1A1 FALs initially. Most constables weren't even armed with anything other than a large wooden stick (lathi). Yet these brave officers, left in dark by the government of that day, mounted counter-attacks, road blocks and cordon operations against the terrorists, suffering heavy casualties in the process. Nevertheless, through their blood and guts they managed to hold off until better equipped Central Police Forces and Army troops began arriving to take over. Even after that, these chaps continued to stay on duty as it necessary to have every man with a gun on patrol, keeping watch.
There was one particular officer, Constable Tukaram Omble who suffered mortal wounds, but managed to capture alive a terrorist armed just with his lathi stick.

read the book "The Siege" recently and all I have to say is Jesus fucking Christ were the Indians out gunned. I knew it was pretty bad but had no idea how awfully unprepared Mumbai authorities actually were at the time.
Brot_HD@reddit
Did the police got upgrades after that attack or it stayed the same?
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
They got some incrimental upgrades initially, because honestly the government of that day didn't really care. Even the NSG special forces who fought with 70s era gear largely remained the same till after 2014.
Now the situation is much better, police have INSAS, more Ishapore FALs, various foreign and domestic AKs, MP5s etc, and Glocks are seeing standard issue in the major cities.
Alarmed-Owl2@reddit
Weren't many of the SMLEs also the .410 shotgun conversion models?
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
Those are mainly issued to prison guards, they dont have magazine.
1corvidae1@reddit
Got a source for this brave man
ld987@reddit
The SMLE is a damned fine rifle but having to confront AK armed terrorists with one sounds like a bad time. Hats off to those fellers.
TheBusinator34@reddit
Yeah they need to drop the act and stop reenacting the early 1900s during actual crisis. This isn’t even funny it’s negligence. Steel pot helmets. Wooden bolt actions. No body armor. What the heck were they doing over there.
Pavotine@reddit
I saw footage at the time of two very brave Indian policemen armed with SMLE rifles engaging with a terrorist armed with a Kalashnikov and grenades down a street or under the balcony of a large building.
They did not run away and they were seriously outgunned but kept the terrorist pinned for a while and distracted from killing civilians.
Brave people.
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
Blood and guts one can say.
I don't wish to compare but if Uvalde PD had shown such bravery many lives would have been saved.
Naztynaz12@reddit
The Mumbai police actually acted as the Uvalde police; I distinctly remember being reminded of Mumbai when the Uvalde tragedy happened
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
Well clearly you are wrong in this case my friend. Many Mumbai Police officers gave their lives selflessly, and charged forward with whatever they had
Naztynaz12@reddit
I don't deny it, but don't deny those few officers were left out to dry while their comrades hesitated, allowing for the threat to go unchecked and persist. You yourself mentioned there was a line defender with an Enfield rifle defending his village against three ak wielding dacoits: the Mumbai police had a mistmatch of firepower, but they had the numerical, tactical, and home ground advantage.
I want to bring your attention to the attack on the Nairobi mall 2013: the local police were afraid and hesitant, but one well trained officer went in and turned the entire tide of the situation.
Entirely separate. I loved your photos,I actually am curious how you source them. Keep posting, I hope we can continue our discourse .
BazingaODST@reddit
Your God dam right the Uvalde PD should face a firing squad for cowardice
Pavotine@reddit
And the Indian police early on the scene in Mumbai were facing a much more well equipped and deadly threat. Uvalde was a damned disgrace upon those who arrived to do nothing for hours to confront the gunman.
Could I confront a gunman with my own gun in that situation? I'm not sure, I'm not tested in that regard but there was an overwhelming number of police officers on scene and they seemed to suffer some collective inaction bullshit.
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
Seems to be a one-case though, I saw bodycam footage of another school shooting where officers took swift action and neutralised the shooter preventing casualties.
Pavotine@reddit
For sure. For all the understandable American cop-hating out there, many police officers have also shown incredible bravery and decisive action in a very dangerous crisis.
The collective failure at Uvalde was egregious though.
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
There are always bad apples in police forces, specially here in India but no matter if you are a cop hater, when shits hits the fan everyone looks upon and relies upon the officer to protect them and guide them.
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
Indeed, thankfully things are much better now...
maciejinho@reddit
They fear no man in bulletproof vests with them. Most of the time, at least.
puzzle_head1@reddit
Center mass hit from 303 will probably knock them down even if the round doesn’t break armor.
Naztynaz12@reddit
There were hundreds of them vs less than a handful, and all they did was hold a perimeter for hours instead of seriously ending this. In did not find them brave at the time at all.
Viva_la_Ferenginar@reddit
Want to remind you that these are just regular ass beat cops whose only real experience of actual gun fights is probably watching bollywood. You aren't talking about hardened American cops here who are used to gun violence.
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
I hope you actually read upon stories of their gallantry instead of being ignorant. These were people who had rarely fired weapons before, or even faced this kinds of coordinated attacks.
Naztynaz12@reddit
I watched the tragedy unfold in front of me as I witnessed it. I don't believe I'm being ignorant, I think you're being dishonest to yourself in the name of loyalty. In reality the siege lasted 60 hours while Police stood by waiting for Black Cats to arrive, costing many hostages their lives. You all can't improve until you are frank and honest about your deficiencies. The police needed better training, equipment, and leadership. Period.
Avtamatic@reddit
I heard a story of an Indian guy, not sure if he was police or reserves but he supposedly had his SMLE with him when a terrorist attack happened. Apparently he was allowed to keep the rifle with him, but the magazine he had to leave at the station or unit. He ended up stopping a whole attack by just single loading rounds into his SMLE.
I can not remember the guys name.
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
I've posted about him here haha! Maybe that's where you heard it from.
He managed to make terrorists flee with just his SMLE
puzzle_head1@reddit
How much extra ammunition are they carrying on their pouches some of them have?
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
A couple of clips at max as they rushed in pretty quickly, Indian police isn't normally armed except for Inspectors
puzzle_head1@reddit
I would even be happy to have a few loose rounds to reload. But I guess if all I had was the rounds in my rifle that will have to do.
Walker_Hale@reddit
These are probably Ishapor 2As. I think they retained the .303 style magazine.
GeneralOhara71@reddit (OP)
They had boxier magazines, and you can actually spot some post indepence imported No.4s as well!
VermelhoRojo@reddit
This caught my eye!
ExtensionConcept2471@reddit
Don’t want to appear pedantic here but photos 7 & 9 are No4.s
