I know Renee. She’s amazingly nice.

I love how slouchy Lucy is while watching the clip. Also this scene comes up in my brain fairly often. It was so heavy and emotional but also highlights another instance where Xena has more medical/human bio knowledge than a lot of the folks around her.

Xena also went through 10 lifetimes worth of wars and battles compare to the average human beings, according to ww1 and ww2, most of humanity's medical knowledge are gained from war 😬

That scene is iconic! Lucy and Renee’s reactions are priceless.

Was anyone else as in love with Renee as I was? I dated two girls because they reminded me of her.
goodcowgirl@reddit
Lucy looks soooo gay here I love it

I love every single clip like this lmao. Please bring back forcing actors to sit and watch their own work for our enjoyment 😔
(Barring that, I'd simply take audio commentary making a comeback. Podcasts are not a substitute!)
Away-Living5278@reddit
Agreed but I think they did these ones bc they rented to, I don't think the studio forced it like they did with the ones for the DVDs which I also love.
matt-89@reddit
I prefer audio commentary cause they're reacting live for the entire episode. Podcasts is after the fact and has a habit of going off topic more.

First react video ever.

Lucy says in an interview that this was the first time she was pushed to be so raw and emotional, I believe by the director TJ Scott.

"Lucy Lawless said Gabrielle's death scene was the first time she had ever 'given it all up' as an actress, letting go of all control and being 'really real and really raw." -- XWP The complete Illustrated Companion, by K. Stoddard Hayes (2003)
"In the scene where Xena loses her friend, you really see *raw Xena.* You see how great her need is. And then [as an actor] you've still got to keep a lid on it, or the audience is going to disengage at some point if you go into self-indulgence. Renee was just my savior in that episode because there came a time when [...] they asked if we could go for one more take and I said, 'Oh, I can't do it,' and I just about went mad, and Renee said, 'Yes you can, Yes-You-Can,' and I said, "Oh, O.K., O.K.. Renee, you're the boss.' And I did it and it was a fantastic take. So she was able to shore me up." -- Lucy in The Official Guide To The Xenaverse, by Robert Weisbrot. (1998)

Even as a kid that scene hit me hard.
bubba1834@reddit
This shit feeds my soul omg
Nipplasia2@reddit
It’s funny she is watching herself but was just as enraptured as a fan
sapphicmari110504@reddit
That scene IS SO RAW, I love it
Silver6Rules@reddit
I think I'm getting more emotional watching them watch themselves. There needs to be more of this.
tennes87@reddit
Ren was so cute here
AuntyEmfromOz@reddit
And yet another hair colour for her. What IS Renee's natural hair colour?
tennes87@reddit
I have no idea, i always thought it was red. But im not so sure anymore..anyways she looks good in any colour.
DaniDoesnt@reddit
She loves Gabby and Xena so much.
She put so much of herself into this 6 year performance I think it broke her brain a little
Thank you for your art Ren!
Eaglemoon7@reddit
I don’t think I’ve ever seen either of them look so serious for so long.
DaniDoesnt@reddit
They really loved these characters. That's what made the show so great. They took it so seriously.
KaidaStorm@reddit
Honestly, I love it when I get to that episode in season 1 because I love that scene.
They really pushed the acting there and it was amazing.
