9070xt says it requires 900w
EVGA GQ 1000W is on discount of 20% worth buying it? or any other recs?
ASUS tuf gaming 1000w also on discount
what brands should I pick ?
GolemancerVekk@reddit
What's your CPU? What make and model of 9070 XT?
GPU manufacturers tend to over-evaluate power needs to make sure even low-quality PSU can deal with any power spikes. They usually multiply GPU power by 2x to have a safe requirement. Depending on CPU and total consumption you may need less. PSU quality is a big factor.
EVGA GQ is a very old model (10 year old design), which probably explains why it's on sale, they're trying to clear stocks.
What were you planning to pay for Asus TUF? I see it for $235 on pcpartpicker, that's way too much for a B-tier PSU and it might not even have enough cables for the 9070 XT.
I would get an ADATA XPG Core Reactor II, it's $120 for 850W and $130 for 1000W. It's an A-tier PSU with 10 year warranty, plenty of cables.
octopussupervisor@reddit
AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 3.9 GHz 38MB
PowerColor Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Red Devil
its the only one in stock.
im kinda limited as I am buying from one vendor. that particular one isnt one I can buy
the ASUS TUF Gaming 850W Gold is 141$ and the ASUS TUF Gaming 1000W Gold is 180$
this is swedish currency im just translating, they are both 20% discount
there's MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 850W for 150$
theres NZXT C1000 1000W ATX 3.1 for 205 $ it looks newer
it's tough for me to see what is good and bad other than total power delivery. im not interested in squeezing dollars here I just don't want to massively overpay and I want something that isnt risking my components
GolemancerVekk@reddit
Ah ok, I can use the Swedish site of pcpartpicker to see what's available over there.
You should get a 850W PSU minimum to be on the safe side.
The ones you listed aren't bad, the problem with them is that they don't come with enough PCIe cables. The video card model you mentioned needs 3 connectors. Due to increased power demand in modern GPUs it is strongly recommended to go by the book and use 3 distinct PCIe cables for the card connectors, connected to 3 distinct PCIe sockets on the PSU. The ones you listed only come with 1 or 2 dedicated cables and instead use all kinds of high-power socket adaptors and splitters.
Looking through what's available in Sweden I would recommend the Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 ARGB 850W. It's a tier A+ PSU, it is well rated and has 10 year warranty. You can turn off the RGB from a button if you don't want it.
It will come with 3 PCIe 6+2 cables, each of them will also have a second connector on a dangling splitter. Do NOT connect the dangling connectors. Connect all 3 PCIe cables into the PSU and their main connectors into the card. Leave the dangling extra connectors unconnected. This is the safest possible way for both the PSU and the card.

Chassi ideas for a casual? ATX build I think it's called I don't plan on doing any overclocking
rigg ryzen 5 9600x and 9070 xt, motherboard is ASUS TUF Gaming B650-E WIFI, I see a trend in chassis now that they are very open, I presume this is loud as all hell?. do I really need all that or is that mostly for people who are tweakign their gear?
Ideally I'd like a very understated chassi that comes with all its fans as standard, it doesnt have to be silent but if I don't need it to be open and airflowy, I might aswell go for a silent and enclosed one? I don't like windows on the side and no RBG
Fractal design north is kinda cool looking, a little bit mature but it is open on the front side top and back, I guess it's extremely loud, which is a shame because its so pretty
SilentPhysics3495@reddit
My friend has a 3060 12GB, was looking to upgrade with about 700USD and asked me for advice. I told him if he's spending $700 he should wait and look for a 9070XT but if he's looking to spend closer to the 5070 MSRP then that's an option for him. He said he'd rather pay $700 for a 5070 than buy a "shitty chinese card with bad drivers." How could I go about bringing him around to looking at the value instead of just the brand?
ZeroPaladn@reddit
Jokes on him, Nvidia GPUs come from the same fab as AMD ones!
Racism aside, your friend can take some time to look at the reviews of the newer cards that make objective performance and cost observations and he can decide for himself.
And if he's concerned about bad drivers, he may want to be aware of the shit Nvidia has gotten themselves into:

SilentPhysics3495@reddit
thanks, It was hard to tell if he was being legitimate or trolling because he couldnt explain himself but ill show try to see what the actual hang up is.
ZeroPaladn@reddit
Yeah, throw a few benchmarks at him and see what he thinks. The data is pretty hard to ignore, but there are still legitimate reasons to going Nvidia (CUDA/AI support is unparalleled, RT performance is still better, slightly better upscaler in DLSS4) and legitimate reasons to ignore them this gen (12V2x6 power cable is poorly designed/implemented, price, VRAM limitations on lower-end models, recent driver concerns).
SilentPhysics3495@reddit
Does the 5070 use the new power connector? his rig is a bit older now, so that could be a harsher deterrent
ZeroPaladn@reddit
It does, but it also comes with an adapter in the box to connect to any older PSU without concern. So long as he's got some wiggle room for wattage they'll be fine.
n7_trekkie@reddit
AMD and Nvidia are both American companies. Both buy chips from tsmc, which is Taiwanese, not Chinese
SilentPhysics3495@reddit
Yeah, I tried to tell him but he wasn't having it. I couldn't tell if he legitimately believed that or was trolling and didnt have the words to explain himself.
Papema3@reddit
Hi, i only know one big store in my country which sells pretty built pc with good parts mainly gpu and cpu. However they use some Mancer branded motherboard in the pcs, is it a low quality brand? Would it affect my performance somehow or shouldn't worry?
GolemancerVekk@reddit
Mancer are cheap Chinese motherboards bought in bulk and assembled/rebranded locally in Brazil. The opinion online seems to be it won't burn your house down, but performance is anybody's guess. I wouldn't do any overclocking on it.
Search /r/computadores for "mancer" and see more opinions, your Portuguese is probably much better than mine. 😃 Here's also a search link that uses DDG instead of Reddit's internal search (which kinda sucks sometimes).

Will I see speed improvements if I add an ssd to my pc that's running an hdd?
t90fan@reddit
it depends
Simply installing it won't do anything, it depends how you then use it.
If you are playing games and install those to the SSD instead of the HDD, then you will get faster loading times, yes.
Really you ought to move your OS installation to SSD too though
Protonion@reddit
Is the HDD the only drive you have? If so, then yeah that thing should've been changed to an SSD about a decade ago. It's a massive improvement in terms of responsiveness and load times. Bear in mind that you need to have Windows installed to to the SSD, just adding an SSD alongside the existing HDD won't help any. You can either reinstall Windows to the SSD or clone the HDD to the SSD if it's large enough.
supanutz@reddit
Thinking about buying a 9070xt, but I want to game at 4K. If I don’t play at max settings, will it be able to pull 60+ fps?
t90fan@reddit
yes
I manage 4k/60 on a 4070 (very high/max, bit of DLSS, no RT) in most games no problem
supanutz@reddit
Thank you :)
ZeroPaladn@reddit
I've been playing with a 9070 XT on my 4K120Hz TV, you'll be using FSR3/4 to upscale to keep it pushing higher settings, but it's definitely a good experience :)
supanutz@reddit
Amazing, thank you. Was hoping I wouldn’t have to convince myself to buy a 50 series card lol

hey guys curious if anyone has feed back on this build? https://imgur.com/a/PGMMHkm
f0xy713@reddit
I'm assuming prices are CAD or AUD, not USD otherwise you're overpaying for everything here.
This is for productivity, right? Otherwise 64GB and 9950x3d is overkill and you'd be perfectly fine with 32GB and 9800x3d. Other than that, looks perfectly fine to me.

menziessa@reddit
Building a PC (4th time overall, first with pricey components). I've got an RTX 5080 on the way as well as an AMD 9950X3D. My question is about SSD's. For my last build (in 2018) I had one drive for my OS (a 512 gb m.2 drive) and one for games (was a SATA SSD then a year or two later got a 1gb m.2 drive). The Samsung 9100 looks impressive, I'm considering getting the 4TB version. I'm assuming that 2 of these drives (1 for the OS and 1 for gaming) would be overkill, but I'm not opposed.
Any suggestions on what SSD(s) to buy? Or would I be fine just getting one 4TB 9100 and putting both the OS and games on there?
Thank you in advance.
djGLCKR@reddit
It's not only an overkill drive for that purpose, but also a waste of cash. On games, you won't get any noticeable performance boost, even SATA SSDs are still good enough for that purpose. At best it'd be almost a second faster in load times, but that's extreme cases, the average would be in the milliseconds range. And unless you're playing the benchmark game and looking at the numbers, you won't really notice the difference between that and a slower drive. It's just there to demonstrate the technology and the controller (same thing happened with Gen 4 and Gen 3 NVMe drives and even SATA SSDs until their prices came back down to Earth).
If you don't need the high speeds from a Gen 5 drive to improve your workload, save some cash with a decent Gen 4 NVMe SSD. $550 for a 4TB drive is just no, that's enough for TWO 4TB Gen 4 drives, and depending on the drive, some spare cash.
As for 4TB suggestions, there's the Teamgroup T-Force G70 Pro and the WD SN850X, with the former offering the highest endurance (2960 TBW) compared to the latter (2400 TBW).
t90fan@reddit
Note that the WD Black SN850 is notorious for making an annoying coil-whine type noise under high IO load.
t90fan@reddit
don't worry too much about stuff like PCIe generations and transfer speed benchmarks
For most users I/O isn't really a bottleneck any more once they go HDD->SSD. And the perceptible jump between a slow SSD and a super fast one feels a lot less.
So just find one with a good TBW rating and a good value in terms of $/GB
lyzaros@reddit
The only time you should be looking at SSD specs is if you regularly do large file transfers. The gaming performance between the best and worst SSD is negligible.
For what it's worth, the hynix p41 platinums are a good balance of price and performance. They don't come in 4tb versions though.

Chassi guidance please
build 9700xt ryzen 5 9600 x
I want a mesh front chassi that is cheap and comes with included fans because I am cheap like that, I won't be overclocking or doing water cooling. I kinda like the fractal design meshify but its not in stock (long wait)
Fractal Design Focus 2 Solid is an older chassi that looks clean and is cheap, is it good? its in stock
it's a more budget case but looks good to me?
t90fan@reddit
Fractal Design Pop Air is like 80 quid, mesh, comes with fans, and is in stock everywhere (I have the bigger XL version and like it)
ZeroPaladn@reddit
Focus 2 is solid and a great grab. Other options like the Montech X3 Mesh, Lancool 207, and Phanteks XT PRO are worth looking into :)
octopussupervisor@reddit
doesnt appear to come w a fan in the back, only two in the front, will I need to add that, then why doesnt it come w it....
I won't be doing anything but casual gaming on it

Evening all, so I’m looking at upgrading my GPU from a 1650 Super to something in the 30 series. I’ve checked it’s compatible with my motherboard and within the power constraints of my power supply. Is it really as simple as removing a few screws and unplugging the old one and vice versa? TIA
t90fan@reddit
yes
n7_trekkie@reddit
It's that simple. You should also reinstall your drivers using the Nvidia app
wagwanastic@reddit
Thanks for the reply, do I need to uninstall them first and then reinstall when I boot the PC back up?

Hello, I don’t even know how to articulate this issue so I haven’t been successful googling it. I’ll try to explain.
My monitors power is really really touchy. If I move the chord at all it’ll shut off and I have to jiggle it around and what not. This is a massive issue for me, I have a cat who walks around my setup and I like to move my monitor.
I figured it was my cable and I replaced it, the new one worked for a little bit then the issue started to arise again. Could this be an issue with my monitor power outlet (idk what else to call this)?
I’d really like to fix this instead of getting a new monitor so any intel would be great, thank you.
t90fan@reddit
> My monitors power is really really touchy. If I move the chord at all it’ll shut off a
Is it a Dell by any chance?
The ones at my work are notorious for it.
They just don't really make the ports deep enough to hold the connectors snugly.
Protonion@reddit
Yeah it could be that the monitor's power inlet (not an outlet since power is going in, not out of it, often also called power connector or receptacle) has become loose. Could be a cheap part that's been slightly out of tolerance since new, or it could have become loose over time from the cable putting strain on it as the monitor has been moved around.
While technically the power inlet part can be replaced, it really isn't recommended to mess with the parts that handle AC mains voltage, doing something wrong causes a fire and/or electrocution hazard pretty easily.
I'd just try to attach the power cable to the monitor's stand in a way that moving the monitor or the rest of the cable doesn't cause any movement in the plug. Like, for example literally just ziptie the cable to the stand.
Fidelroyolanda_IV@reddit
Would you guys say $475 is a good price for a new RX 7800 XT? And what about $410 for a used RX 6800 XT?
Fidelroyolanda_IV@reddit
Okay, so I hoped to upgrade my current PC to am5. I'm currently considering whether to get a 7500f for 140 or 7700 for 180. It'll be mostly used for gaming, though also a bit of python simulation for my degree. I've seen some people say that the performance increase is negligible, but maybe having integrated graphics can also be nice if my GPU ever decides to stop working? Which would you guys choose? Basically, what I'm asking is whether or not the 7700 is 40 euro better than the 7500f or if my money would be better spent elsewhere.
Cool_Database_7583@reddit
I’d buy the 7700
n7_trekkie@reddit
I think it's worth paying 40€ more. Under 200 is a great price for the 7700
Cool_Database_7583@reddit
Is 240 aio enough cooling for 5070 gaming only at 1440p. I don’t overlock or do anything intense other than gaming . Mainly playing fps games to max frames but at 1440p.
Memer182@reddit
For the Msi b550 gaming gen3, I saw few people recommending a WiFi 6 pcie card, will one with WiFi 7 work too?
eillow@reddit
What fans should i get for my NZXT - H7 Flow 2024 Mid-Tower ATX PC Case. it came with 3 fans in the front but thats all. dont care bout rgb or anything, just want some affordable efficient fans since it gets hot in the summer where i live.
jamvanderloeff@reddit
What's going inside it?
For most use cases just the included 3 is fine, adding more is diminishing returns, although you may want to rearrange where they go.
eillow@reddit
Sry for the late reply, it has a 9070 xt and 9800x3d with a phantom spirit cooler, corsair rm850e psu.
IzzybearThebestdog@reddit
Never had a gaming pc. What the price range to be able to play last gen games , with mods, and high settings?Think GTA5, Fallout 4, Minecraft etc.
HiddenSecretStash@reddit
If those are the games you are aiming for you should be able to get a decent one for fairly cheap, If you got a used one it might cost you around 4-500 dollars if you are lucky. If new then maybe around 800-1000 dollars would get you a decent build.
HiddenSecretStash@reddit
I upgraded my mobo/cpu/ram today. Didn’t connect the hdd since i wasn’t planning on using it anymore, but it was still connected to the psu. All of a sudden it started making crazy spinning sounds, anyone know why? I don’t care if it’s damaged, i was planning on tossing it either way. Just wondering what made it activate when it wasn’t connected to the motherboard.
slyspartan133@reddit
I’m looking to find CPU AIO cooler and case fans that match. Trying to keep RGB to a minimum but still a little there. I found the geometric future AIO 420 & their 140 case fans but wanted to see if anyone had any opinions on them? As they’re not reviewed by many and I just found them today. Thanks!

I’m building my first server with a GPU inside for AI - I’ve settled on a 4060 16gb, but unsure of good places to buy a good used GPU. Is it just Facebook Marketplace and prayers? I’m sort of surprised there aren’t any sites that act as a go-between for sellers and buyers, like you see for phones and stuff.
n7_trekkie@reddit
You probably mean 4060ti 16gb. I looked on eBay and didn't find any good options. The 5060 is going to have a 16gb option. Maybe just wait a few weeks

Minute-Salamander850@reddit
Thanks, that's all I needed. I guess I'm staying with Intel for now. The \~7 fps increase on most games is not worth 1.5k, specially after spending around 4k on a monitor and a GPU.
n7_trekkie@reddit
Happy to help. Shout-out to techpowerup for even testing at 4k. Most reviewers think it's useless data, which it mostly is, because it it's a GPU bound scenario. Pointless for a CPU review. But the data does help me show people that upgrading to that shiny new CPU wouldnt net you any extra performance. Today, at least

I'm putting together a low key 1080p 60 hz build for a tv room for some couch gaming sessions. The tv unfortunately does not support freesync/vsync. I've had issues in the past with menus and other areas in games causing massive spikes in cpu temps I guess due to uncapped fps. Are these transient spikes a concern and is there a way to mitigate it with a tv that doesn't support freesync/vsync? What's the go-to solution here?
n7_trekkie@reddit
TVs never support vsync because that's something done on the PC side. Vsync buffers frames rendered by the GPU in order to deliver a smooth presentation on your display, at the cost of latency. If your fps isn't divisible by your refresh rate (20 & 30 are ok at 60hz, but 45 and 75 are not), then you will have screen tearing. Vsync limits your fps to the refresh rate of your panel to avoid tearing, so 60fps at 60hz.
You can achieve this result without vsync by setting an in game fps cap of 60fps. But vsync is generally available. The added latency is a bummer, but having a smooth presentation is generally worth it
SpoilerAlertHeDied@reddit
Got it, I guess I meant that my TV doesn't support Freesync/GSync, so in that case I will be relying on Vsync on the computer side to smooth frames.
n7_trekkie@reddit
Right, that's likely what you meant. That makes sense

9700xt + ryzen 5 9600x 3.9 ghz or Ryzen 5 7600X 4.7 ghz?
ZeroPaladn@reddit
The 9600X is a better chip, it's packing a higher boost clock (5.4GHz vs. 5.3GHz for the 7600X) and pulls less power. However, they're effectively the same chip under gaming use and you can safely go for whatever one you can find for cheaper/on sale/part of a bundle deal.
octopussupervisor@reddit

I’ve landed on the Intel Arc B580, will it work nicely with a 12600kf on a B760M board?

Asgarri@reddit
Is the 5080 that much better than a 4080 super considering the prices I've found are roughly +£350(~450$) for the 50 series? Budget aside as I could afford it, but is it really worth it? For longevity and raw performance, not just talking DLSS. Thanks
coolgui@reddit
Just built a new HTPC, when running a game with graphically intense scenes, I'm getting a droning noise. When I pause the game, it seems to stop or at least reduce significantly. I used fan control to turn each fan down to 0 RPM one by one to make sure it wasn't fan noise. I suspect coil whine. Is it for sure the GPU or could it also be the GPU? What else could I do to isolate it? For reference it's a Power Color 9070 Hellhound (non XT).
achan1369@reddit
If i stay with sub $800 GPUs for now and future upgrades, will I be fine with selecting an AM5 motherboard with only PCIe 4?
t90fan@reddit
it will be fine
achan1369@reddit
The mid range cards won’t be able to take advantage of PCIe 5 for several more generations?
jamvanderloeff@reddit
By the time PCIe 4 vs 5 (or 6) matters it's likely your CPU will be so far behind that you'd want to upgrade likely needing a new motherboard anyway.
Protonion@reddit
If we look at how it went with PCIe 2.0 to 3.0 and 3.0 to 4.0, then it'd genuinely take like a decade until mid-range cards would start benefitting from the higher version in any meaningful way.
t90fan@reddit
Probably not,
If you stick a 5090 in a PCIe 3 slot you lose like 5-10% only
thebedroomlabs@reddit
Okay so I still rock my gtx 970 card with an i7 4790k 16gb ram. I mostly use the computer for editing and it works decent after i proxy my 4k footage to use on davinci. I play some games here and there but one that I am consistent with is Rainbow six siege. With their recent changes to dx12 and my upgrade to a 1440p monitor for editing, my 970 can't give playable fps anymore. even turning it down to 1080p doesn't help. So I am considering a temporary upgrade to either a second hand 3060 12gb card or a 1080 ti. I am getting a 1080 ti for cheaper. Which one should I go for? Considering my cpu and 1150 socket with ddr3. I may upgrade my ram to 32 gb too.
ZeroPaladn@reddit
If it's temporary and you're looking for a more complete update to your system down the road, a 1080Ti would be a big jump with little investment for you.
thebedroomlabs@reddit
146USD for the 1080ti and 193USD for the 3060 12gb. I am looking for a complete upgrade down the line but the timeline will depend on how well my career goes for a while haha
ZeroPaladn@reddit
I'd argue that the 3060 would enable some technologies that would help you if it needs to last a while (DLSS) and still be able to play the latest games coming down the pipe because it has some RT support. While that older 4770K will struggle in that scenario, it won't be a hard "no".
thebedroomlabs@reddit
as i have mentioned, gaming is not really a priority. i only okay rainbow six siege. i use my computer for editing. mainly on davinci.
ZeroPaladn@reddit
Sounds like you just need something to get you by, the 1080Ti will deliver.

I bought a mini pc off amazon I ran the PowerShell script and it should allow for 64gb of ram but it only had one ram slot. Does ddr4 single ram stick laptop size exist? Why would the computer allow up to 64gb if it only allows one ram slot? I was able to put one stick of 32gb ram in, but I would prefer to put the max amount.

Looking at the specific machine, it only has a single SODIMM slot so it's running the memory in single channel mode with the other channel just not connected to anything.
The system technically supports dual channel, there's just no place to put a 2nd SODIMM because they didn't build it into the board. You will be limited to 32GB single channel RAM.

Working on a custom case. I can fit 6x 120mm fans on the top as exhaust, but can't quite fit 4x 140mm up top (width restriction). I could make the case about 1-1.5" wider than I need, but otherwise, could only fit 2x 140mm exhaust on top.
I am thinking Artic P12 fans. In total, case would have 9x P12 (3x bottom intake, 6x exhaust), and 2x P14 for intake RAD fans. Do you think this many 120mm fans would be annoying? I am thinking with this many that I should be able to keep them pretty slow.
Anyone using this many P12s that can comment?

What is the best non-conductive thermal pad/sheet?
I was looking and TG Kryosheet and Carbonaut but I'm reading its riskier for components and is more suited for direct-die applications. I have an AM5 and want to try a sheet instead of paste just to mitigate the delicate process involved with the appying paste and mounting.

PTM7950 is standard pad that's really good for practically anything you'd use thermal paste on. Isn't the best, but it doesn't matter for a consumer CPU.

I've got a Corsair RM1000e and am happy with it, was like £150 and its very quiet
GolemancerVekk@reddit
It's probably still the best choice for OP, esp since it's only £120 now (for the 2023 model). You may have the 2025 model but they're both good. Only issue with RMe is that it's a lottery if you get poor assembly and coil or fan noise.

Help with upgrade please
Hello everyone! Now i have such config: B550M aorus elite Rtx 4060 Ryzen 5 5600x 32gb ddr4 vram
I am playing in 2k (2560x1440)
Started thinking about an upgrade. So, please tell me what should i do (upgrade) exactly? I do not know much about pc building. Does my motherboard support rtx 50 series? Or at least 4070ti super
May I change my cpu for some ryzen 7 model? Will it be supported with my motherboard?
Also i have a big case so size of parts doesn’t matter.
Biene1111@reddit
Your motherboard should be able to support the 50 series its more about the psu and you motherboard supports any ryzen up to the 5000 series so ryzen 5/7/9 5xxx will all work
t90fan@reddit
what are your goals
still planning on playing at 2k?
do you just want a higher refresh rate or what?
Pablito_21@reddit
Can someone recommend me headphones to play video games and listen to music for less than €100?
t90fan@reddit
do you need a mic?
Pablito_21@reddit
If the headsets mic it’s useless yes, but with a mid mic it’s fine, I play fps games
t90fan@reddit
So, I really like my Sennheiser HD450BT, they were like £70 or something a while back in a sale.
The inbuilt mic is completely useless though.

How often is everyone upgrading their components? I’m 4 years in and I’m feeling the itch
t90fan@reddit
4-5 years
But I don't use particuarly high-end components, you could probably go for longer if you did.
TemptedTemplar@reddit
Four or five.
Though this last time the stars aligned and I was able to grab excessively high end components compared to my previous builds. So I'm hoping I can drag this rig out for quite a bit longer.
n7_trekkie@reddit
2 years personally. hardware unboxed actually did a poll about this

Probably a weird question, what's the best single tower cooler under $50 for the 7800X3D?
Brostradamus_@reddit
Thermalright Peerless Assassin or Phantom Spirit, and it's not particularly close.
t90fan@reddit
Peerless Assassin isn't single-tower, the assassin X is though
t90fan@reddit
Thermalright Assassin X 120 SE
Liebruh@reddit
Colling a 14600kf, thinking about one of these few coolers: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Vzj3db. Any other suggestions in the $30-$35 price range since it seems like these are the best value/preformance you can get
djGLCKR@reddit
The A620 would be enough. Also remember to update your motherboard BIOS to the latest version, you'll want the microcode update to keep the CPU at Intel's suggested voltages.

Hey all I just recently built my pc. I’ve got o believe a fsp 380 black case. I’ve just mounted the side panel and it seems like on the, there is a gap between the side panel and case. Is this normal? Is it for something like airflow or did I mount it wrong. Thank you

Anyone know why Corsair stopped making the AX series PSU's? I did a bunch of googling and really just couldn't find anything.
I feel like there's prob still a market for server grade PSU's shoehorned into an ATX form factor.
UndeadGodzilla@reddit
My guess is seasonic overtook them in the industrial market so they decided to focus on more profitable ones like gold and platinum. I recently got an HX1000i and its probably their best PSU after the AX1200.
Hrimnir@reddit
Oddly enough i just got literally that same PSU!
I was going to re-use my old AX650, but, figured, 10 yrs old PSU, prob not wise to use it any longer than i have to in the new build hehe.
UndeadGodzilla@reddit
Yeah 650w is cutting it close if you have a good GPU and CPU, especially if its an Intel. Mine is for a 9950X3D and a 4070ti so 1000 is more than enough and probably for you too.
Hrimnir@reddit
Yep, i got a 5080, did some further looking and it appears to be actually using 370-380w under load, so, even with a 105w CPU, that just felt like a problem waiting to happen. GPU Power recommendations are usually way on the high side since they know they can't guarantee the quality of PSU someone might be using. But, like for example i have a 4070 with a 9600k and various other components in a SFF PC i use in the living room running off an SF460 corsair that has been fine, so you can usually get away with a lot less than the "recommended" from the GPU manufacturer.
That being said, due to the age and how close it would have come, just didnt seem like running a 650w 10 yr old PSU at 90% load was a wise choice lol.
Honestly im kinda glad i didn't get the 750w back in the day, because if i had that now i would have prob just re-used it, and prob would have blown up my PC!
So, figured this time around, and given NVidia and AMD's power usage trajectories, 1000w was prob a safe bet, cus in 5-7 yrs when i upgrade the GPU the bastards will prob have 500w xx60 class cards LOL.

Is there anyway of verifying if this CPU is compatible with this mobo? This site doesn't seem to list it but I don't think that's a full list.
TemptedTemplar@reddit
No, thats an AM4 motherboard, the 7000 and 9000 series Ryzen CPUs require a AM5 socket.
Which is only found on 600 and 800 series motherboards.
viewless25@reddit
gotcha, thanks for the quick response. So now I'm thinking instead of getting this 5800 then instead. I already have the motherboard and I'd rather not get a new one if I can avoid it. Would make the whole ordeal more expensive and difficult. I'm just trying to get a new CPU because my Ryzen 5 2600 is really struggling
jamvanderloeff@reddit
That price would be way too much for it though, better value to either do the full jump up to AM5 with new board CPU and RAM together, or get a used CPU, 5700X should be around 100 bucks. For bigger upgrade on current board going the next step up to 5700X3D could've been sensible too but now that they're more like $240 used instead of the 140 they got down to a while ago they're less appealing.
Hrimnir@reddit
\^ I agree with this response.
If you can find a used 5700x for a decent price, do that, otherwise, just get a budget AM5 motherboard around $140-160 and 9600x, grab a cheap non rgb ddr5-6000 16gb kit, and call it a win.
Alternatively, if you have a microcenter decently near you, they have some really great bundle deals, they're just usually in person only.
For example right now you can get a 9600x, a mobo, and 16gb ram for 300USD.
TemptedTemplar@reddit
Very much so.
Just make sure you update the BIOS on the motherboard before slotting it in!

jamvanderloeff@reddit
It isn't, that's an AM5 CPU and an AM4 motherboard, entirely different sockets.
Liebruh@reddit
Has anyone here ever purchased a cpu from SZcpu on Aliexpress? I'm thinking of picking up one of their 14600kf's since it's so low+coupons possibly compared to US retailers, and the used market seems sketchy. From what I gather, they're selling tray cpus and oem chips, so there no official warranty since they aren't retail boxed chips, which also brings prices down.
Just would like some experiences with how it went
