Yeah but that always happened in parallel. We did a lot of cultural stuff before, during and after our World Wars.
A lot of art is actually related to all the wars we fought. Expressionism for example is closely tied to the first world war. One of the most famous art pieces by Picasso is Guernica, depicting one of the first acts of the Nazis, even before WW2 actually started.
And science, well you know who invented mustard gas or the jet fighter.
I'm German, trust me there are many great things we did. But when talking about the history of a country, one must always consider the good and the bad.

The past wasn’t all that great either.
Most of our battles were against ourselves so, in a way, we won and lost at the same time.
MihaiROYALE@reddit
Germany should've won. The wrong people won.

That's the sad thing: your ancestors did some (very) bad things and lost. So everyone forgets about the nearly 1000 years before that. 🫣

The stuff before wasn't that great either.
We mostly fought internal wars, meaning technically we both won and lost at the same time.
Borstolus@reddit
Germany isn't all about war.
Look at science, arts like literature or music and even philosophy.

And mercenaries. Don't forget about the mercenaries. Landsknechts and Hessians

Aber genau das wollte ich doch sagen: Beides sehen, nicht nur das Böse. 😘
And yeah: war is the biggest innovation machine "we" have, because now there are resources for that.
(That and boredom)

They won pretty regularly for a while before it went wrong.
