Piasecki was given a US Army contract to create a compound helicopter using the AH-1W SuperCobra and incorporating their VTDP technology as well as lifting wings.
The Speed Cobra, or simply Piasecki Cobra, was what they came up with.
The SpeedCobra was never built, however a second contract with the US Navy in 2003 resulted in the successful construction of the X-49 Speedhawk in 2007.
