Has much changed

I lived in Milton Keynes for five years back in the early 2000’s and I’m just wondering how much it’s changed since then if I was to go back for a holiday
Tomoki967@reddit
Enclosed by many a warehouse..
More cars in estates than people it seems..
City centre... er random flats appearing..
No where to play snooker or pool anymore :(( wolverton and Newport Pagnell are a tad far :(
As others have mentioned cultural diversity is heavily more noticeable.
I dunno, love and hate the place in the same time.
Adventurous-Sale-671@reddit
You can play pool in Lane 7 that has just opened where the ground floor of Debenhams used to be, over 18s after 7pm

…and your great, great, great granddaughter is pretty fine.
Ye_olde_oak_store@reddit
I took a trip to the year 3000
Alad_N@reddit
Not much changed but we lived underwater
Jengalese@reddit
You can no longer say this: What's the Point? Cinema in Milton Keynes.
Ye_olde_oak_store@reddit
It is however still there
Davychu@reddit
The tree is dead :(
shdanko@reddit
Long live the…. Upside down house? Is that still there?
Bdlwaller72@reddit
It is, but apparently at the end of the 5 year lease, and Gail’s are looking at opening there.
shdanko@reddit
Some places haven’t changed and some places are completely unrecognisable.
TechboyUK@reddit
Parts of it now lol and sound like you're in another country.
Roller skating at Rollers and the Agora has gone.
Large department stores like Debenhams and House of Frasure have gone. Waitrose moved and that car park is on the process of being demolished (incredibly slowly).
The Japanese school had been turned into an OAP centre.
The nice road from the H6 to Woburn has transformed, taking a few minutes to several minutes - with traffic lights 😭
We now have buildings taller than the tallest trees.
MK is now a city (costing taxpayers a lot of money, for no benefit).
Car parking costs much more, in more areas.
Oceana, Directors, etc are gone.
The De Montfort University has gone.
The hockey stadium has gone.
The area outside the train station keeps changing.
More potholes.
There are more drive-through take aways.
Bin bags have been replaced with wheelie bins.
Unable_Radish_2925@reddit
There’s no Cinnabon in the shopping centre now :( The tree in the circle of midsummer place has died.
Classic_Peasant@reddit
Made in Sud has gone too :(
TreKeyz@reddit
This was honestly the biggest loss for MK! Best pizza I ever had, and you could get a whole pizza for less than £5
Classic_Peasant@reddit
Was the best around, they suddenly just disappeared. Don't even know where they went
Hoppum@reddit
Apparently Midsummer Place told them that if they were going to stay, they'd have had to move into one of those food units that are there now, which wasn't viable for them.
I heard the main guy now helps his Dad run Bianco's Bistro on Tongwell near Red Bull Racing, which is also very highly rated, albeit doesn't sell pizza.
Classic_Peasant@reddit
The darkest day never told.
Projiuk@reddit
There was a Cinnabon? I missed out, at least there will be a Popeyes soon
Unable_Radish_2925@reddit
There was a Cinnabon around the early-mid 2000s time. It was where one of the food outlets in midsummer place. It was maybe the one that is a Greek Souvlaki place now. Can’t believe we are getting a popeyes! That’s going to be great. Milton Keynes is the land of chicken restaurants and I am here for it still
Projiuk@reddit
Yes I’m excited about it too, you won’t find it on their site atm but I saw a job listing on Popeyes for assistant store manager Milton Keynes so it must be happening maybe later this year?
TreKeyz@reddit
I am a massive popeyes fan, and have been massively disappointed by the UK version.
Slim Chickens is superior to UK popeyes, in my opinion.
Projiuk@reddit
I’ve never had Popeyes in the US but I’ve been quite happy with Popeyes over here. Slims is pretty good (especially their wings) but I’m most looking forward to chick-fil-a opening its doors in the uk this year
TreKeyz@reddit
I've never had chic-fil-a, I look forward to it too.
There was a chicken sandwich war in the States a few years back. Popeyes won that war. The sandwich in UK popeyes doesn't stack up. But the sandwich at slims is a beast!
In saying that, I have only had Northampton popeyes, and only once. It could have been a bad day, or it could just be Northampton.
Chick-fil-A_spellbot@reddit
It looks as though you may have spelled "Chick-fil-A" incorrectly. No worries, it happens to the best of us!
TreKeyz@reddit
This is weird.
Projiuk@reddit
Same, nothing hits quite like chick-fil-a. I imagine MK is a long way down the list for that, but there will be stores in Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool and London initially. I went to their pop up in reading a few years back and it was on point for flavour so fingers crossed that will be the same
Notagelding@reddit
Where is the popeyes going to be?
Projiuk@reddit
Midsummer place apparently, saw a job listing for assistant store manager Milton Keynes on the Popeyes site
TeZhhh@reddit
The cinnabon was so good, I don't see why they pulled out. Where's the Popeye's?
Projiuk@reddit
I believe it will be somewhere in midsummer place, there’s no signage for it yet and it’s not listed on the Popeyes site as coming soon but I saw a job listing on Popeyes website for “assistant store manager Milton Keynes” so I imagine it is in the early stages
rockandrollmark@reddit
It’s a lot more run down in the centre. There are a few new things… They developed the land at the bottom of Campbell Park into a marina with nice cafes and a pub, there are a lot of hotels. The hockey stadium is now a multi-story car park. Other staples such as Willen Lake and the parklands are unchanged. The council’s approach to repairing the roads seems to be; if we just let all the potholes merge into one giant, grid road-shaped pothole, there aren’t any potholes.
redpringle@reddit
Willen Lake has had a bit of an upgrade, to be fair. New water sports centre, more parking, new pub etc.
Little_st4r@reddit
Great linford manor has also been improved too by a huge margin
UnitedKipper@reddit
More pot holes, more immigrants, and more crime.
Classic_Peasant@reddit
Much more diversity in the people here, many don't seem to have a job and are around during thr daytime loitering.
The centre is more run down, closed stores/empty lots.
Made in sud pizza is gone, the tree is gone.
Roads are in shit state.
Willen lake has had an upgrade.
Campbell park area etc is bigger has more flats and there's a marina/wharf nearby.
itsibitci@reddit
You do realise that people can have a job and be "around in the daytime" simultaneously? Not everyone works the same days/hours
FeeBusy7839@reddit
Huge statue of Pete winkleman in the middle of furzton lake, Middleton hall has been replaced by a giant version of chess, aqua land been built on Willen lake, mk bowl is now called mk plate due to the bell being filled and now the surface is flat & MK dons stadium is changing from football to a demolition derby due to wanting a larger attendance! But not much else
UsefulAd8513@reddit
I went to CMK for the first time in 6 months last week and nearly got lost! Where did all those apartments come from!
Joseph_HTMP@reddit
I moved away in 1999 and back in 2022 and tbh apart from the place being busier, the centre being a bit run down and the roads being in worse condition, I genuinely can’t see that much difference.
