New presenters

Have you heard the news about who is going to replace the trio on the continuing Grand Tour thanks to Amazon..?
The Grand Tour is considering social media star Francis Bourgeois as new host..
Now I like watching his YouTube videos about his love for trains and his enjoyment around his hobby, but the thought of him hosting TGT really makes me not want to watch as I don’t think he has the personality to host a show.
What’s your thoughts..?? 🤔
Onslaught777@reddit
Won’t be watching. As much as I do love cars, it’s the three blokes I watch for.
I’m sure the new presenters on Top Gear did a decent job. Haven’t watched an episode. No desire to do so.
michaelloda9@reddit
The old three blokes are done, why not give a chance to some new blokes? It will never replace the old TGT but it can be good too in its own way.

I couldn't care less about cars, but I too love classic Top Gear and The Grand Tour because of them. It's their personalities, enthusiasm, and antics which made these shows worth watching.
TechnologyFamiliar20@reddit
Actually, S23 and S24 wasn't that bad. But, as you can see on wiki, no new episodes after 2023...

????
The Chris Evans series was awful.

This is what people don't get, the trio moved people everywhere if you try to copy their energy and their style people won't click with it. They tried doing the same with all the other top gears they made around the world.
ccReptilelord@reddit
My thought is the same. My interests and this sub should be r/JeremyJamesandRichard.
NoIncrease299@reddit
Same. I didn't keep watching the show(s) over 20ish years for the subject matter - I watched for Clarkson, Hammond and May.
existential_chaos@reddit
Same for me. Was never much of a cars person, but they were so funny and had great chemistry it made it worth it.
michaelloda9@reddit
I was skeptical but I just looked him up. He's amazing, he's a young bloke with heavy opinions on trains, he's got good sense of humour and dresses like his grandfather. He's gonna be basically the new James May. If he's not good then who will be? Get him! I actually really want this new Grand Tour to do well, I hope they can pull it off.
AppendixN@reddit
Nobody cares about TGT or TG because of the show’s format or name.
We watch for Clarkson, Hammond, and May.
Anyone that tries to fill their shoes is just in for disappointment.
Beahner@reddit
I’ve not followed it all as I’m of the strong opinion that not only is making the trios magic and chemistry happen again not very likely….but we really aren’t in a world of such televised regular car type show.
Social media already has so much….decent and a lot not so decent that what need is there to big budget something like this and hope you can mix in the right three personalities?
JTFranken@reddit
TGT died the day the trio left - just like TG.
conkacola@reddit
I thought Amazon would’ve figured this out after what happened with Top Gear and BBC. People don’t watch it for the cars, they watch it for Clarkson, Hammond, and May.
dageshi@reddit
Different situation innit. With the BBC the presenters still wanted to make more, which is why they went to amazon.
With The Grand Tour they finished on their own terms, they don't want to make more. But the production team behind them, including Mr Willman do.

Chris Harris is the only answer
kjm911@reddit
The problem with Harris is that he’s just too bloody good at everything. He’s basically a one man show. Now I did enjoy Top Gear with him, Freddie and McGuinness, but you just can’t have the same kind of dynamic that the original trio had. Even compared to other car journalists/youtubers/presenters Harris is just going to be the most knowledgeable and by far the best driver of the lot. You’d have to go to great lengths to make the challenges competitive.
TechnologyFamiliar20@reddit
Francis Bourgeois
...wtf.
thedirtybeaver00339@reddit
Had to look him up. Fuck no.
hardwood1979@reddit
Studio executives need to realise that it was the chemistry between the presenters that made TG/TGT special not the format of the show. The BBC's efforts after the trio left should make that obvious, only when they landed on chris, paddy and Freddie did the show become watchable again. You can't just drop new presenters into the format and have it work .
Blackmore_Vale@reddit
If it’s Clarkson and Andy Wilman who are doing the hiring process I’ll give a shot as they put together the original trio. But we’ve also got to give them time to grow and build their chemistry as we can’t expect it to be the same show.
Accurate_Radich@reddit
it doesn't really matter who hosts the show, as long as they have chemistry and despise each other's hobbies and abandon each other when their cars break down. A love of trains is a good breeding ground for jokes)
dageshi@reddit
The trio ended on their own terms so I'll give whatever comes next a shot on its own merits.
Also honestly, I don't think you can copy the format of the grand tour with new presenters, there's a million youtube channels doing car reviews and top gear/tgt has already done practically every car related idea already, you're never going to top Hammond Clarkson and May with that.
So if they have to go leftfield with new ideas and new stuff then I understand why. The show is called "The Grand Tour", I could see them focusing more on travel and maybe travelogue with interesting presenters?
ggibby@reddit
Wikipedia names Mike Skinner and Abbie Eaton, whoever they are.
SubjectiveAssertive@reddit
Mike was "the American" and Abbie was the racing driver from the 2nd series onwards.
SubjectiveAssertive@reddit
I like the guy but my word he'd be awful for a vaguely car show.
Although trying to replicate Clarkson, Hammond and May is a hiding into nothing, so maybe going the opposite way entirely might be a move.
So Francis Bourgeois, Geoff Marshall and Nick Badley to be the new hosts. Make all the shows about trains.
The challenges, trains in places they shouldn't be.
gerrineer@reddit
Had me hopes up then for the streets helming it.
drgnrbrn316@reddit
I'm of the opinion that they should just make a new show with new hosts. Much like the issues with Top Gear, it'll be difficult to insert new presenters into the formula and expect it to live up to fan nostalgia.
