How tf is this unattainable? Im pretty sure this can be done for 200k on the outskirts of just about any large city. If you cant imagine scraping together the down payment for a 200k house you were never gonna make it in the first place.
I'm just thinking about rural-edge Texas cities. Stuff surrounding Dallas/Houston/Austin are all extremely affordable, as long as you're 30-50 miles out. And 500k cad is only 350k USD so that's REALLY not that bad.
Our first condo purchase was 276k usd in 2018 and now it's worth about 440.
Plenty of >$200,000 properties in Iowa metropolitan areas. It won't be costal wages, but these days it seems more of my peers are moving back because cost-of-living is so fucked on the cost.
Hard pass lol. My aunt and uncle live in Cedar Rapids and every single thing about the state of Iowa was boring as fuck to me. Highlight of all my trips was driving like 3 hours to Ames to check out the world’s biggest garden gnome and eat tuna salad sandwiches. I live in metro Atlanta and while it’s got plenty of flaws I still love living here.
I’m not quite understanding what you’re saying. Is Portugal not cheap by European standards? Germany’s gdp is 20 times higher and the average income is twice as high for example.
Portuguese here. Portugal is a bit poor by European standards, but so are its people and the houses are still expensive. Low salaries, expensive houses. At least it's one of the safer countries and has decent weather and food. But little money ;_;
US states are not comparable to European countries. The language and culture does not completely change from state to state as it does with European countries.
I'm actually in the process of finally getting exactly this! The USDA Rural Development loan is a pretty solid option for moving out to rural areas and its made specifically to get people to move further out of urban centers. Its 0% down and normally has lower interest rates than conventional loans.
But yeah deadass if you are planning on working in the city, expect long drives and a ton of money burned on gas and repairs. Learning to garden and become self-sustaining isn't super hard as long as you put the effort in to test what your strengths are. Ive spent about 5 years straight of doing test gardens where I planted basically everything I can get my hands on to see what works best for my soil type and in my area.
I remember someone once told me if you're comfortable, you're not growing. Keep searching for ways to make yourself uncomfortable and you'll become comfortable even when poor outcomes happen.
If anon loves gardening it's another thing but imo far from the city center means a long commute to do literally anything, plus the mosquitoes would get annoying
What would anon do without the hustle and bustle of the city while living in a studio apartment and going to a beercade were you can drink and play games at the same time!
He could grow a beard, drink soylent meals and watch his wife get fucked by a new man every other night.
I'm not even talking about all that I'm talking about the necessities
Like in my city there's maybe about 3 decently big supermarkets within 10min of walking, probably around 5 small grocery stores including one right on the first floor of my building, 5 pharmacies and 3 banks (and god knows how many ATMs). Can anon living in the suburbs say the same?
I grew up in true suburbia, and we had a Zellars, Sobeys, Canadian Tire, movie theater, coffee shops and restaurants, and beautiful trails, ponds, and forests, all within a 10 minute bike ride.
If you’re not far from the city center, you can’t have a house with a huge backyard, although a nice suburban house maybe 30 mins away could do the trick.
Mosquitos are gonna happen no matter what. Trust me those fuckers love my legs
whats stopping you from just going out and doing it anon ?
oh wait.. its because you 700lbs isn't it... well if you build your own house and do your own work I am sure those pounds will melt right off.. oh you have medical condition that makes it hard for you too move ??? mind as well forget that dream then.

dirt, water, seeds, shovel, rake. hoe and hand tiller optional but certainly preferable.
seed packets give you almost all of the information you need, other than your growing zone.
I started gardening last year, it's shockingly simple. Especially if you grow root vegetables, shits so easy man.
Iron-Fist@reddit
