Trying to inject logic into capeshit doesn't work. It's the same idea as horror movies, they need dumb stuff to happen to make the plot move forward. If Batman had killed the Joker early on millions would have been saved. In any reality other than comicland he would have gotten the death penalty.
While I'd normally be on board with Anon here, that he's using a scene from Superman vs. The Elite is a sign he's missing the point.
That whole movie (and the comic it is based on) is all about the use of force as an equalizing factor.
At first, everyone is on board with The Elite, because they promise permanent and swift solutions to the world's problems, as in, they're willing to kill, and Superman is reluctant to even consider lethal force, even in the most dire of circumstances.
Eventually, they become the largest threat to the Earth itself.
Superman damn near killing them all is not hypocrisy on his part, but rather to show them where that road leads.
This story isn't the problem with Superman, really. He's got other issues.
Sure but superman literally carved a portion of this dudes brain out. Permanently removing his powers. He didnt need lethal force because he could literally remove this mans powers. He used the same exact tactics they were. All he did was not kill.
In the comic at the very least, he used his powers to temporarily disable those of Manchester. I don't recall if the movie changed this or not- Wikipedia says it did, but I honestly do not recall.
If they did change it, believe me, this is something I'm not fond of either, as it, too, would miss the point.
Apparently, this story was a response to The Authority, but as I've never bothered reading it, I couldn't begin to tell you what it was trying to say. 🤷🏼
As the other anon pointed out, Superman was bluffing the entire fight, he "kills" the whole crew, leaving only Manchester alive and bork his brain. Not long after, it's immediatly revealed that he was just messing with all of them and no one was hurt permanently
It's a false equivalency though. If someone wanted to murder a bunch of innocent people and Superman uses his power to stop him from murdering them, that doesn't make superman a dick.

Can someone well versed in comic slop explain to me, what's power of Captain Bri'ish over there? checking loicense? bad dental hygiene? cultural appropriation?
premium deluxe telekinesis to be clear. in the movie anon's talking about he could use it to give superman seizures by squeezing arteries in the brain and stuff like that. Of course at the end of the movie when they face off he completely forgets he can do that but idk maybe it requires focus and he was too tired or something
Excuse me but I thought the entire point of the comic isn’t “might makes right” but rather “the strongest man is the one who shows restraint and mercy”. The comic was written against the nihilistic comics of the period and showed the hopefulness of superman has towards humanity.
I need to rewatch Superman vs The Elite bcos the more i think about it the more a sour taste it leaves in My mouth. I'm pretty sure i'm forgetting a Big portion of that film
This episode ends with captain Britain on his hands and knees crying that superman isn't supposed to be evil and superman going yea Im not like that, that shit is lame
The point being those with power should restraint and not go off killing and destroying just cause they feel like it
I got the point he was trying to make was that a world where everyone who is stronger just gets to do what they want was bad. Why people needed rules particularly the epitome of overpowered himself.
Some anon put it best, the point of Superman is that Lex Luthor is a man trying to be a God, while Supes is a God trying to be a man. Neither of them can succeed, not for long anyway.
